Meet Betty, one of our Behavior Program’s brightest success stories! 💛

When she first arrived, Betty was scared of anything going over her head (which makes leashes pretty tricky)! With no collar, no confidence, and no interest in approaching people, our team had to get creative! Through patient desensitizing, lots of treats, and teaching her a fun “touch” game, Betty slowly became brave enough to step out of her kennel and into the world.

Now? She LOVES yard time, adores hanging out in offices, and has become a staff favorite. She’s a gentle, sweet girl who melts hearts the moment she lays her head in your hand in for pets. She also enjoys other dogs and might even thrive with a canine buddy!

Betty has worked so hard to become the wonderful, sweet, ready-for-love girl she is today, and now she’s hoping her forever family is out there and ready to come meet her. 💕

So many happy tails this week!

Look at all these sweet faces that each found their way into a loving home this week! Cats, dogs, and even a guinea pig. Every one of them has a brand-new beginning thanks to adopters who opened their hearts.

Watching these incredible animals walk out the door with their new families is the best part of our week, and we couldn’t be more grateful to everyone who chose adoption. ❤️

We have a very special treat for everyone tomorrow:
Our sweet foster kitty Antler will be at the shelter in person starting at 11AM for anyone to come meet — no appointment required!

Because Antler normally lives in a foster home, visits to meet him usually have to be scheduled in advance. But tomorrow only, he’ll be hanging out at the shelter with his foster mom, ready to charm everyone with his soft purrs and gentle snuggles. If you’ve been curious about this handsome boy, this is your perfect chance!

Antler is about 8 months old and has truly blossomed during his time in foster care. He came to us unsure and nervous of the world, but with patience and love, he’s revealed what a sweet, affectionate lap cat he really is. The moment you start giving him attention, he purrs like a motor and melts for chin scritches. He’s also been great with other cats in his foster home and would likely enjoy a feline friend.

He may take a little time to warm up in a calm new environment… but once he feels safe, you’ll get to see just how loving, gentle, and adorably silly he can be.

December 5th – January 4th

It’s that time of year again when our community comes together to spread kindness, warmth, and full bellies for pets in need. ❤

Starting tomorrow, our Holiday Pet Food Drive officially kicks off! Every bag, can, or box of food donated helps us stock our Kibble Cupboard, a vital resource that supports keeping pets fed. Your generosity directly helps keep pets in their homes and out of the shelter.

Donating is simple and makes an enormous difference:

If you've ever had a husky or know someone with a husky you know it's rare to hear or say "my husky is so well-behaved!" Well, let us introduce you to Nahla, a very well-behaved 6yrs Husky!

Don't get us wrong, she is still full of personality, and still has that husky charm of sassing and back-talking with her woo-woos.

Nahla is sweet, social, silly, and has done great with every person and dog she has met here at the shelter. She has been nothing but a total sweetheart, and she is ready to share her love with her new family!

Meet Tank, our incredibly wiggly, resilient 11-month old Lab mix!

Earlier this year, Tank was hit by a car, leaving both back legs broken with serious injuries. His family initially helped get him surgery, but the cost of further surgeries and the time to care for him was more than they could provide, leading to the heartbreaking decision of surrendering him.

We helped get this sweet boy get the surgery he needed to fix his remaining injuries, and one of our amazing foster homes opened their hearts and home to help Tank down his long road to recovery. After two months of all the love, care, and physical therapy, we are happy to announce that Tank has fully recovered and is officially ready to find his forever family!

Here is what we can tell you about this incredible pup: He is housetrained, loves playing with other dogs, and is fantastic with kids! The best part about him, though? He is the most affectionate pup who loves to cuddle and greets you not just by wagging his tail, but by wagging his full body!! He is just the cutest!!

Update: ADOPTED!! 🎉🎉

Some of the hardest moments in shelter work are watching dogs come back through our doors. Returned by people they thought were family, now confused, heartbroken, and wondering what they did wrong. Few dogs know that feeling more deeply than Angel.

Angel, a beautiful 6yr Heeler/Pitbull blend, first came to us in July 2023 as a lost dog with no family searching for her. Since then, she has been adopted and returned four times. Not because she isn't an incredible dog; she simply hasn't landed with the right match, yet.

The upside? We have learned so much about Angel that makes her so wonderful!
✨ Housetrained
✨ Knows how to use a doggy door
✨ Kennel trained
✨ Great with cats
✨ Loves kids
✨ Has done well around other dogs at the shelter
✨ Super smart — knows sit, lie down, stay, come, shake
✨ Sweet, gentle, affectionate

Angel is the kind of dog who wants to be close to her people, to love deeply, and to finally belong to a family who won't give up on her.

If you’re looking for a dog who brings laughter, joy, and just the right amount of goof… let us introduce you to Shenan! He has shenan’d once, and he will absolutely shenan-again! 😄

At just 1 year old, this lab/Plott Hound mix is a walking burst of sunshine. He’s outgoing, friendly, and always ready to make a new best friend — human or dog! He’s playful, he’s sweet, he’s silly, and he is FULL of shenanigans!

We hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving surrounded by love, good food, and family. ❤️

Here at the shelter, our week looked a little different… our dog kennels filled up completely over the last several days. Every open space has been needed, and every kennel has a dog hoping this isn’t where they spend the rest of the holiday season.

Adoptions make all the difference, not just for the dogs going home, but for the ones still waiting. When even one pup finds a family, it opens a space for another dog in need, a warm blanket, and a chance.

If you’ve been thinking about adopting, now is a truly meaningful time to do it.

Some stories begin in the hardest places… and Smudge’s began behind a business, where he was found in a dumpster. Scared, confused, and so tiny, he arrived at the shelter unsure of what the world had in store for him.

We named him Cosmo, wrapped him in safety, and hoped someone would see the brave little kitten worth far more than being discarded like trash.

And someone did!

His adopter shared this beautiful update with us:
After a couple of weeks of being frightened and defensive, Cosmo, now lovingly renamed Smudge, has blossomed into the most affectionate little kitten. He adores his new cat brother, has two dog sisters who happily accepted him into the pack, and has become a true part of the family. From dumpster to devoted companion… Smudge is finally home!

Stories like his remind us why we do what we do, and just how much love can change a life.

Our shelter is full of cats and kittens still waiting for their own journey from Kennels to Cuddles. Come meet them… your next heart-melting story might be waiting here!
