Update: Adopted!!!

šŸŽ¶ ā€œHello? Is it me you’re looking for?ā€ šŸŽ¶
If you’ve ever dreamed of having deep, meaningful conversations with your dog, Boomer is your guy.

Boomer is our 8.5-year-old Bluetick Coonhound and a certified shelter favorite. He’s got that classic hound voice and he’s not shy about using it, especially if you’re willing to talk back. šŸ—£ļøšŸ¾

He’s been with us a while now, and we can tell: Boomer’s starting to feel the loneliness. He’s such a good boy who deserves so much more than a kennel. What he really needs is someone to love and respect him for the wise, soulful hound he is.

Boomer checks all the best Coonhound boxes:
āœ… Smart
āœ… Dog-friendly
āœ… Toy enthusiast
āœ… Swimming champion
āœ… Chatty (but in a charming way)

He’s looking for a home without young kiddos—not because he’s not sweet, but because he’s had an experience where his boundaries weren’t respected by little ones, and he deserves to feel safe and secure. Respect, kindness, and a comfy spot to nap after a romp are all this wonderful boy asks for.

Come meet Boomer. He’s got a lot to say, and even more love to give. šŸ’™

We want to take a moment to give a HUGE thank you to our incredible Friends of the Pocatello Animal Shelter šŸ’š

Their continued support and generosity have helped us make some truly meaningful improvements for the animals in our care. From new bowls and enrichment toys, to better enclosures for our rabbits and guinea pigs, to upgraded vet surgery equipment, and even sun shades for our outdoor dog runs, Friends have made a real difference in the daily lives of our animals.

Behind every happy tail wag, purring cuddle, and safe recovery is the support of people who care. Thank you, of the Pocatello Animal Shelter , for being part of our village. We couldn’t do this without you!

🚨 Looking for Hire: Barn Cats! 🚨
These hardworking felines are looking for their next gig, and they’re not interested in your couch.

We currently have three barn cats available for adoption! These are cats who aren't suited for the traditional indoor life or free-roaming community cat life. What they are suited for? A cozy barn, shed, or outbuilding to call home, and a person who can offer food, shelter, and basic care in exchange for a little feline charm—and possibly a lot less rodents. šŸšŸ’Ø

šŸ“Swing by the shelter or call us (208-234-6156) to learn more about adopting one (or more!) of these unique working cats.

Luna has been with us since April, and we just can’t believe someone hasn’t scooped up this sweet, soulful girl yet. We just absolutely adore her and have so many good things to say about her!

At 6 years old, she’s calm, affectionate, and full of adoring gazes that say ā€œyou’re my person. She’s house-trained, great on leash, and has done well living with kids in the past. Her gorgeous black coat with its smokey undertone is as silky as it looks, and her love language? Cuddles, snacks, and more cuddles. šŸ’™

Luna would prefer to be the only dog in the home. She’s not trying to be greedy, but let’s be honest: she deserves all the love, all the treats, and definitely all the best nap spots.

She’s been overlooked for months. But we know the right person is out there—someone who’s just as ready as she is for love, loyalty, and a whole lot of snuggle time.

From Kennels to Cuddles: Sherman’s Happy Ending šŸ’™šŸ¾

Oh, Sherman! We absolutely adored this big-hearted guy during his time with us, and we’re over the moon to hear how well he’s doing in his forever home! His new family shared:

✨ ā€œHe loves playing with his fur brother! And getting snuggles! Laying in bed is his favorite after a long day of playing outside! He sure is spoiled! He’s the best and completed our family! We sure love him!ā€

Seeing Sherman go from shelter life to a soft bed, loving family, and all the snuggles he could ever want reminds us exactly why we do what we do.

Here’s to Sherman, his wonderful new life, and all the other animals still waiting for their happy ending. šŸ’ž

Four months is a long time to wait when you’re a dog like Truett — full of love, personality, and hope.

Truett has become a favorite here at the shelter, not just because of his sweet, gentle nature, but because of how brightly he shines. He has one of the most joyful personalities, the kind that makes your day better just by being around him. We estimate him to be around 2.5yrs old.

He walks well on leash, loves to play with toys, and enjoys spending time with other dogs. Whether it’s a quiet stroll, a game of fetch, or a good cuddle, Truett is simply happy to be part of it. And can we talk about those ears?! Truly some of the cutest you’ll ever see.

We can’t understand why this lovable guy keeps getting overlooked — maybe because there are so many dogs in need right now. But we know his perfect match is out there, and we hope they see him soon.

Come meet Truett. Let him light up your life the way he’s brightened ours.

šŸŽ‰šŸ¾ Wanna Be a Hero? No Cape Required! šŸ¾šŸŽ‰

You don’t need superpowers to make a huge difference in a shelter pet’s life—you just need a little time and a whole lotta love. šŸ’›

Shelter life can be hard on our animals. Days get long, kennels get lonely, and snuggles are in short supply. But the moment a volunteer walks up? Tails wag, eyes light up, and hearts (theirs AND yours) start to soar. ✨

Whether you're tossing toys with a pup, scratching a kitty behind the ears, or just sitting quietly with a shy soul—YOU can be the best part of their day.

Ready to brighten lives (and get your daily dose of feel-good fuzzies)?

It’s hard to believe that these two sweethearts are some of our longest-stay cats. Wendy (left) and Dairy Queen (right) came into our care together with joint custody of a large litter of kittens—yes, you read that right! They co-parented their babies like pros, and just when they were wrapping up motherhood duties, another orphaned litter of kittens arrived in desperate need of a mom.

Wendy? She was officially over it (and we don’t blame her one bit).
Dairy Queen? She stepped right up like the nurturing queen she is and lovingly raised that second litter, too.

These two have given so much, and now it’s time they finally receive something in return—a home of their own. No more kittens to raise. No more shelter life. Just sunny windowsills, cozy beds, and families who will love them the way they’ve loved so selflessly.

They’ve done their part. Now let’s do ours. šŸ’›
Come meet Wendy and Dairy Queen (both estimated to be about 3.5-4yrs old) —two amazing cats who are so deserving of their happily ever afters.

Earlier this year, we faced one of the hardest realities a shelter ever can—an outbreak of Parvo among young puppies that resulted in heartbreak and loss. We knew we couldn’t go through that again. Things needed to change. And they did.

With a new team, new perspectives, and a fierce commitment to doing better, we built a plan. When sweet Phoenix, a 5-month-old German Shepherd mix, tested positive for Parvo, it came sooner than we hoped, but we were ready.

Thanks to a fast response, dedicated staff, Alpine Animal Hospital for critical treatment, and Cody, our incredibly talented maintenance tech who jumped into action building a safe isolation space, Phoenix had a fighting chance—and she made it. ā¤ļøā€šŸ”„

Today, this brave girl goes up for adoption, and is ready to find her forever home.

This isn’t just a win for Phoenix, it’s a win for compassion, growth, and what happens when people work together with one shared goal: to give animals the care and second chances they deserve.

We are proud of our progress.

We are proud of Phoenix, and we can’t wait to see her rise into her next chapter, with a family of her own.
