Hello football fans! The HVHS has kicked off its annual Super Bowl pool and you are welcome to participate. This is a fundraising effort where we will share the pool 60/40 — each box is $25. If you are interested, send a text to 917-701-3870 with the box number(s) of your choice and pay via our preferred method which is Zelle to 917-701-3870 (check, Venmo, etc. also available). Boxes are on a first-come, first-serve basis and will be confirmed once payment is received. Proceeds are dedicated to the cost of veterinary care for our animals. Thank you and good luck!

Dear Friends,

Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Happy Kwanzaa and happy holidays overall. Reflecting on 2024, the faces of the animals are vibrant in our minds. Some came to the HVHS through our Humane Law Enforcement efforts, as strays, as owner surrenders, or transfers from our partner shelters. Regardless of their origin, they were animals in need of safety, veterinary care, food, water, shelter, a clean and warm place to lay, and for our personnel to love. To all of those animals … we thank you for the trust we witnessed behind your eyes. To our personnel … the HVHS is fortunate to have such a kind, gentle, and professional staff dedicated to animal welfare as they comprise the heart of our organization. To our community … the HVHS is proud to serve you as we begin to close out our 133rd year of existence. Finally, we wanted to take this special time to wish all our friends and supporters a wonderful holiday with all those you hold dear.

Thank you for your support and, as we always do, we wish you kindness in return.

Sincerely,

AnnMarie Gaudio
President & Humane Law Enforcement Commissioner

Earlier today, we received a phone call regarding wildlife in distress severely bound in fishing line in the frozen reservoir off of Convent Road in Orangetown. The owner of the property, Veolia, was contacted and was in full support of providing access so the bird, a Merganser, could be rescued. In order to do so, and as they say “it takes a village”, a team of resources came together, specifically: Veolia personnel, The Orangeburg and Pearl River Fire Departments, the Piermont Fire Department’s Dive Team, the Orangetown Police Department, the Orangetown Animal Control Officer and the Hudson Valley Humane Society. It was a beautiful thing to witness all of these concerned entities and individuals come together for a solution. Thank you all; you are today’s heroes. The bird is currently in intensive care and so far we know there are no broken bones, there is a tremendous amount of swelling, currently there is no necrotic tissue, but time will tell, and the bird also was hypothermic. We will continue to update as we learn more. The HVHS transferred the bird to the Wild Bird Fund in Manhattan for expert care.

Tomorrow is Giving Tuesday and every charity that you hold dear will ask for your consideration in donating. We humbly ask that you keep the HVHS in mind. The annual cost of necessary veterinary care for our animals this year is nearing $250,000.00 and that is a spend we make without hesitation. Bringing animals back to health from neglect and cruelty takes time, patience, kindness and money — none of which we could do without our supporters. Donations to our organization can be made in a variety of ways: via check to “HVHS” 200 Quaker Road, Pomona, NY 10970 or via Zelle at 917-701-3870 or PayPal where credit cards are also accepted. Donations can be made via our website as well at: https://www.paypal.com/donate/?hosted_button_id=CR4RZGLK2R5A4&cmd=_s-xclick&ssrt=1701110506847
