Do you recognize this dog? He was found on the street near Broadway and Franklin in Nyack, NY (Orangetown) today and has been brought to the safety of the Hudson Valley Humane Society. As many may be aware, there are reports of a canine respiratory disease around the United States.

According to Cornell University this is a highly contagious upper respiratory infection in dogs that has been occurring in certain parts of the country. So far it has been found in:

Oregon
Colorado
Massachusetts
Rhode Island
New Hampshire

-Please know that your pet's health & safety is our number one priority, all rooms after every patient are always cleaned and sanitized.

"In our area, we're not yet aware of a similar outbreak, but it's something that we're needing to keep track of," said Dr. Brian Collins, a senior lecturer at Cornell University's College of Veterinary Medicine in Ithaca.

Many of you may have seen news stories about a Canine Respiratory Infection outbreak. We wanted to provide you with some information about the illness. It has been reported in several states at this time. The exact cause has not been identified, it could be a virus, bacteria or other infectious agent. It causes coughing, tracheal inflammation and can cause pneumonia.
You can protect your dog by avoiding areas such as dog parks, boarding and extended stays at the groomer whenever possible. Also, make sure that your pet is up to date on vaccinations for diseases including distemper, adenovirus, parainfluenza, parvo (4-in-one) vaccine. You can also make sure your dog is vaccinated for both Bordetella and Canine Influenza.

November 8th is International Day of Radiology!

🩻Did you know becoming a veterinary ACVR Specialist (basically an animal radiologist) requires extensive training?

According to ACVR.org an ACVR Board-Certified Radiologist (ACVR Diplomate) is veterinarian who has received advanced training in diagnostic imaging and has passed the American College of Veterinary Radiology Board Certification Examination. The radiologist is then able to diagnose medical
conditions by obtaining and interpreting medical images.

The American College of Veterinary Radiology (ACVR) is a member-driven, not-for-profit organization consisting of over 600 accredited veterinary radiologists and radiation oncologists.
