Yesterday was a blast at Sussex for Team NKE! 🌟

Ana Raven and her own Aberdeen continue to make progress every show and grabbed some good ribbons in the Pleasure Division out of a nice field of 7.

Bella Meng and Steely Dan took on the Leadline Division to earn Reserve Champion out of 4.

Diane Salek’s Grayson and Nicole had some great clear rounds in the .85s to finish 1, 2, 2, and Reserve Champion.

Haylee Alonso’s Calla and Nicole jumped around the 2’6 hunter derby course for Calla’s first official schooling experience. Not a surprise that this incredibly talented 4yo marched right around with no problem. Angel baby 😇

A huge thank you to Haylee Alonso for being the best groom, Ana Raven for keeping the whole team together, Karlson Bauer for trailering, and everyone else that came to help out. It truly takes a village and I am eternally grateful to each and every one of you ♥️

Also a big thanks to the whole Sussex County Horse Show committee for putting on yet another beautiful show!

Didn’t want to jinx it until it was “official official” but…… in a total of 9 DAYS we found Herbie the most perfect home! From the day I met him I dreamt of this exact home for him, and my dreams sure came true. Huge thank you to Joni Corn for taking the leap and entrusting me with your gentle giant. I’m so glad you got to ride and spoil him while he was here! ♥️ Also many thanks to Courtney Abell and her lovely daughter Kelley Rose and to Calista Miller and Miller Made Farm for making it all happen. You sure have an amazingly talented horse on your hands and we wish you the best of luck in the show ring! 🥇

Better late than never….

Forgot to post from last weekend but congratulations to the NKE Team for another successful show at Sussex! 🥇 It was a HOT one 🥵

Bella Meng and Steely Dan ended up Champion in the Lead Line Division.

Ana Raven and Abby had a successful horse show debut in the Pleasure Division and snagged some good ribbons out of a nice size group.

Nicole Kapusta and Diane Salek’s Grayson grabbed a blue in the .85s for Grayson’s first show back since last year. Finally starting to smooth out with much less baby moments! 🐰

Unfortunately the skies let loose before I had time to grab pictures, but looking forward to the next one!

During these cold winter days you may be thinking about offering bran mashes to your horse as a warm, comforting treat and also as a way to help prevent colic due to the higher fiber content of bran. This, however, is an outdated concept and nutritionists point out several potential problems associated with feeding bran mash too often—namely, an imbalance of the dietary calcium-phosphorus ratio that could lead to bone disorders, and a disruption of the healthy fermentation patterns in the horse’s intestinal tract.

The best way to help your horse stay warm this winter is by increasing forage 🌾 and providing shelter 🏠 during a cold snap. And as far as the risk of colic, your first line of defense is to provide plenty of water to keep your horse hydrated. 💦

As always, your equine veterinarian remains your best source of information; contact them to learn more about feeding mashes (they are typically not an issue if fed as the occasional treat) and colic prevention this winter.
