K9s For Warriors Adoptable Dogs Facebook is page is meant to showcase our adoptable dogs. The dogs listed as “adoptable” were rescued from a shelter in hopes to become service dogs for our organization, but did not meet the requirements throughout training. Health issues, behavioral issues, or breed/age restrictions could disqualify a dog to be a service dog.
The dogs listed on this page are not service dogs, and are available to be adopted by ANY loving family that will provide a good, caring home. All of our adoptable dogs are located on site here at K9s For Warriors in Ponte Vedra, Fl.
If you are interested in adoption, the process begins with completing an Adoption Application, which can be sent via email. After your application has been reviewed, we would set up a meet and greet with your family and any dog you may be interested in. If it is a good fit, an adoption agreement will be signed, medical records and transition food will be provided, and you will go home with the newest member of your family!
Qualifications for a potential service dog: Age Requirement in between 11 months and 3 years of age. • At least 50lbs • At least 23 inches from the top of the shoulders standing • Up-to-date on Rabies, DHLPP (Distemper and Lepto), and Bordatella vaccinations • The dog must have tested negative for Heartworms within the last year and been on a monthly heartworm preventative since the last heartworm test • No aggression whatsoever – no handler aggression, no aggression to other dogs, kids, strangers, cats, etc We realize most dogs chase cats – as long as the dog doesn’t react aggressively to the cat we can work with the behavior • The dog must be confident and stable – no significant fear reactions to loud noises, busy places, crowds, slick floors, and other environmental stimuli • Food motivated – our warriors are not usually coordinated enough to use a toy reward with the dogs so the dog must be willing to work with food • The dog can’t be overly vocal – barking when the dog is bored or impatient can cause significant problems when a warrior is in a meeting or at a movie • Friendly and enjoys working with people • Medium to low drive dogs are preferred, but we can work with a higher drive dog as well
