Four years ago, Milly was adopted from MARL and given a second chance at life. But this week, we received a heartbreaking call—Milly had been found injured and alone in a motel parking lot in North Carolina. With no owner in sight, her microchip led the call back to MARL.

The very next day, our Cat Care Coordinator, Erin, headed south to bring Milly back to safety. Within 48 hours of that first call, Milly was safe in our care, receiving the medical treatment and love she desperately needed.

Milly’s condition is serious and will require extensive medical care to help her heal. And she’s not alone—we’ve been hit hard with special cases and urgent intakes. From Milly and Dexter to animals arriving with broken bones, painful skin conditions and the hundreds of other animals relying on MARL, we need your help now more than ever.

Dexter was surrendered to MARL in critical condition—severely dehydrated, battling a painful urinary tract infection, and suffering from spondylosis, likely due to past trauma to his spine.

Dexter fought through two days of hospitalization to become stable. He will continue to receive the long-term supportive care needed for his recovery, but he can't do it alone.

You helped Harper find her way to family game night. 💙🐾

Every animal who comes through our doors has a story—and the difference between where that story begins and how it ends is YOU.

Harper was found on the side of a busy road, barely alive, her small body riddled with fleas and weighing just two pounds—the size of a kitten half her age. Our team acted quickly, giving her fluids, stabilizing her body temperature, and providing her with warmth and safety. But Harper’s eyes were too damaged to save, and she underwent surgery to have them removed.

Despite all she had endured, Harper’s spirit was unbreakable. Denny’s life before MARL wasn’t easy. He was brought to a local shelter with several other Beagles who had been used as hunting dogs, living outdoors in harsh conditions with little human interaction.

They were all transferred to MARL where they could receive some extra TLC from our team to prepare for adoption. Understandably, Denny arrived undersocialized and unsure of the world around him. At 5 years old, he’s starting over, learning what it means to be a dog for the first time.

Each day, Denny gains a little more confidence, discovering the simple joys of life—sniffy walks, quiet moments with people who care, and, of course, plenty of tasty treats. He still has a long way to go, but we know in a loving home with a patient person, Denny will have just what he needs to thrive.

👑 Meet King Paris Duffy! 👑

This sweet senior has been through a lot, but he’s ready for a fresh start. When King Paris Duffy arrived at MARL, his coat was severely matted, and he had to be shaved down for his comfort. While his fur is still growing back, it won’t be long before he’s looking like the handsome gentleman he truly is.

At 14 years old, this gentle, loving poodle mix is happiest when he’s with his person. Whether he’s cuddling on the couch or following you from room to room, his only wish is to be by your side. He may be a senior, but he still has so much love to give.

Dexter's first day at MARL 💔❤️‍🩹💙 Dexter arrived at our shelter in critical condition; he was extremely malnourished and dehydrated, weighing in at merely 9 lbs. He was also suffering from a terrible UTI, as well as spondylosis - likely due to past trauma to his spine. Dexter was only at MARL for a little over an hour before being taken to the vet. He fought through 2 days of hospitalization to become stable. He'll continue to receive the long-term supportive care needed for his recovery, but he can't do it alone.
