It's a beautiful day at MARL! ☀️🐾 Rayna and Mayo arrived at our doors nearly two weeks ago, unsure of what the future held. Today, they’re embracing every moment—running, playing, and learning what it truly means to be a dog. 💙

Meet Mayo! 🐾 This handsome boy is ready for a fresh start and can't wait to find his forever home! Mayo arrived at MARL with seven other huskies in need of support, and now, he’s eager to meet his perfect match.

This 2-year-old Male, Alaskan Malamute/Husky mix is 80 pounds of pure sweetness. With his well-mannered nature and friendly personality, he gets along wonderfully with both people and other animals. Whether he’s enjoying a leisurely walk, soaking up attention, or simply lounging by your side, Mayo just loves being part of the moment!

Does Mayo sound like your perfect match? 💙 To learn more and apply for adoption please visit https://marl.org/animal/mayo/

We 💙 our volunteers! Thank you Dr. Anthony Youn for all you do for the dogs at MARL.🐾

I've spent the last 20 years of my life writing books and raising my children. With my last book, Younger for Life, in the rear view mirror, and my kids grown up and doing their own thing, I recently found myself with extra time I never had before. Although I have a lot of casual friends where I live, almost all of my really good friends live elsewhere.

So several months ago I decided to volunteer at the local animal rescue, Michigan Animal Rescue League (MARL). Most weekends I spend a couple hours with dogs who need homes, bringing them for walks, playing with them in the yard, and sometimes just sitting with them on my lap. It's been one of the most rewarding experiences ever. Bonding with them, even ever so briefly, and then seeing them find their forever homes is just the coolest thing.

Every single dog in the photo collage has been adopted, except ONE. The dog in the middle photo and the second frame is named Rider, and he's a 3 year old Catahoula Leopard Dog/Hound Mix who's been at MARL and in foster for almost a year after being brought in as a stray. Rider is best described as a gentle giant. He's shy, but when he gets to know you he loves to play, give kisses, and get back rubs. He would be a perfect addition to a single person wanting a lifelong companion or a family without cats or children under the age of 12.

Can you help me find Rider a home? It would be so amazing to come in one day and see his name on MARL's "Adopted" list! This sweet soul deserves to have a loving forever home. I've put the link to his MARL profile here: https://marl.org/animal/rider-2/

And if you're ever thinking about getting a dog or cat, please consider adopting one from your local rescue or shelter. There are so many loving animals that need homes. Save a life today and you will be a hero forever.

And if you recognize one of the dogs in my collage as your adoptee (such as Muppet, Greta, King, Bella, and others), THANK YOU for saving their lives! It was my privilege to get to know them, even for just a very short time.

✨ A little TLC can go a long way… just ask Jameson! 🐾

When Jameson was found at MARL, he was scared and in rough shape. With time, care, and your support, he is becoming the happy, healthy dog he was meant to be. 💙

Our team does the work, but YOU make second chances like this possible. Jameson sends a wagging tail and a big thank you for all the love and support!

Happy from Mitch and his friends at MARL! 🐾 Drop photos of your puppies (young or old!) in the comments below and tell us the puppy-like shenanigans they get up to! 🐶

Mitch will go first. He puts on his best pair of puppy-dog eyes, begs you to throw a toy for him, and then demands you retrieve it. 🦴

After receiving overnight emergency medical care, Bud is expected to make a full recovery. 💙

Bud is part of a family of huskies who arrived at our doors yesterday, all in urgent need of help. Our team has been working tirelessly to provide them with the TLC they deserve—including initial veterinary care, treatment for various wounds, plenty of nourishing food, and much-needed grooming. This resilient family is settling in and already showing their appreciation for the kindness surrounding them.

In the rush to get Bud to the vet, we initially thought she was a he—but surprise… Bud is actually a she! What truly matters is that she’s now safe, out of harm’s way, and on the path to recovery.

Thanks to your kindness and generosity, Bud received IV antibiotics, fluids to treat dehydration, pain medication, and supportive care. While she still has a long road ahead, she’s now resting comfortably and will continue her healing journey in a loving foster home with one of our staff members.

We are incredibly grateful to everyone who shared their story, applied for adoption, and made a special gift to support Bud and her family. Your compassion makes a world of difference for these huskies, and we can’t wait to share more updates with you soon.

Thank you for being a vital part of their rescue and recovery—we couldn’t do this lifesaving work without you.

A family of huskies arrived at our doors in desperate need of help. Despite already operating over capacity, we couldn’t turn them away. These dogs had nowhere else to go, and we knew we had to step in to keep them safe.

We welcomed two adult huskies, Mayo and Rayna, along with their six 8-week-old puppies into the MARL family. They arrived scared, malnourished, and in need of urgent medical attention.

The smallest puppy, who was given the name Bud, had a severe open wound on his head and was rushed to the vet by our team. Bud's injury was so deep it reached his brain tissue. While his prognosis is hopeful, he may need several days of intensive care at an emergency hospital.

We know we’ve been asking a lot this week—because the need has been overwhelming. Animals have come to us in desperate situations daily. And each time, you’ve stepped up. We wouldn’t be able to say ‘yes’ to these animals without you.

We don’t take your generosity for granted. Right now, this family of huskies needs us—and we need you. If you’re able to give, any amount will make a difference in their recovery and future.

Ready to meet your new best friend? Macho, a three-year-old Jack Russell mix, has already perfected the art of being a loyal little sidekick. From the moment he arrived, he instantly bonded with our Executive Director and made it his mission to follow her around like the world’s most adorable shadow.

His favorite spot? Sprawled across her desk —because as long as his person is nearby, he is happy

Macho’s here for one thing and one thing only: Loyalty. And blueberry bagels.

He is looking for a permanent person to love and adore. If you’re willing to share your desk, your blueberry bagels and your heart, Macho is ready to be your devoted little best friend.

It's been 24 hours since Jameson was abandoned in a crate outside of our building. After having plenty of time to decompress and acclimate to his new environment we are happy to report that Jameson is settling in and learning that it's okay to trust people.

Since his arrival, Jameson received much-needed medical care and a bath. He is also enjoying plenty of treats from our team and is being gradually introduced to new people. He has already become best friends with his caretakers - he knows he is safe with us.

Your support helped Jameson through his toughest chapter and will allow us to help the next animal that shows up in dire need. Thank you for being a hero to those who need it most.

Updates to follow! 💙🐾

Last night, a dog was abandoned by the road outside our building in a filthy wire crate without a bottom. He was alone, scared, and in terrible physical shape. It’s clear he hasn’t received proper care in years.

We’ve named him Jameson, and while his story is heartbreaking, unfortunately he’s not alone. Jameson is just one of many animals that have arrived at our doors this month in desperate need. They just keep coming—one after the other, hungry, hurt, and searching for safety. And with no end in sight as the weather warms, we need your support now more than ever.

Please donate. 💙 https://marl.org/donate/donate-now/

Your donation today will provide Jameson—and countless others like him—with urgent medical care, food, and the comfort of a safe, loving environment.

Together, we can show Jameson and so many others that they are not forgotten. Help us transform photos like these into inspiring 'after' photos that we can proudly share with you.

Welcome to the family, Jameson. 💙🐾

Remember Scout? 🐾 This handsome boy came to MARL in deplorable condition after he was found alone outside, covered in painful burn wounds. Scout immediately went into foster and was officially adopted last May. He's been living his best life with MARL's Medical Supervisor, Pearle, and spends his days basking in the sun, chasing his dog sibling, and being the best boy.

The difference between before and after starts with you. 💙
