❤️‍🩹REYNOLDS❤️‍🩹

Sometimes I feel like my life is a constant good news/bad news situation.

We received a couple of very generous donations that got our outstanding vet bill taken care of, stocked our medicine cabinet, and bought enough food to last until our usual Friday pick up. What a huge relief off of my shoulders.

Then one of our fosters tested positive for heartworms due to an unknown resistance to the heartworm prevention we use. Heartworms can be very expensive to treat but must be done immediately as the heartworms will damage her heart and shorten her lifespan a little more every single day until treated.

But we had an adoption!

Followed by a phone call Friday morning letting us know there would be no weekly food pick up.

We take one step forward only to take two steps backward 😭😭😭.

I’m still trying to get my head back in the game after losing my last little friend. The motivation and energy that the rescue needs from me just isn’t there right now. Better days will come along. They have to 🥹😞☹️.

Another piece of good news - Reynolds and friends had a fantastic time spending a special gift card we received on some of their favorite treats we can’t typically afford. All earned a 10 out of 10 on the deliciousness scale. We’re havin a good time ✋🏼.

I know the holidays are almost here. Money is tight for everyone. And I have been asking for so much lately. So this is more of an update post as to why I have been slacking on social media posts. We’re still here doing our best to keep on, keepin’ on.

Since we’re still on an intake hold because of low adoption rates, it really lifted my spirits to get to help with this beautiful girl earlier this week.

She was left at a gas station along with her puppy. The pup came right up to rescuers but she kept darting into the highway. Scared she would get hit by passing vehicles, they decided to call me in to trap her. She walked right in!

I’ll sleep better knowing she’s safe and sound and getting the care she deserves 🥰.

It was quiet… Too quiet…

🐾🐶🐱GIVING TUESDAY🐱🐶🐾

Giving Tuesday is an annual global day of generosity that occurs the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, encouraging people to give back through donations or volunteering. It was launched in 2012 as a way to shift focus from consumerism to charity after the shopping-heavy Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

As we honor Giving Tuesday, we’re asking you to make us your organization of choice.

These are pictures of a fraction of the animals in our care relying on your support. We are a group of volunteers who work every day to save, heal, and rehome animals who have nowhere else to go.

We aren’t funded by the city or the state, which means every life we save depends entirely on donations from animal lovers like you. Your generosity helps provide food, shelter, medical care, and the compassion each animal deserves.
Every single contribution, big or small, allows us to continue saying “yes” when an animal desperately needs a second chance. And I want to say “yes” so much more than I currently get to.

This year, our rescue has seen an overwhelming number of animals in need, and your support keeps our doors open. When you give, you become part of their story—transforming fear into safety and hopelessness into healing. Together, we can make sure these animals continue to receive the love and care they depend on.

Please consider choosing us this Giving Tuesday and help us continue our lifesaving work.

🌻DAHLIA🌻

A miracle baby I don’t post enough about is Dahlia.

I saw her walking down the road in April of 2022. She was sick, but I didn’t think much of it. I pick up plenty of sick dogs, it’s kinda my thing. Little did I know exactly how sick she was…

We brought her home and started her on antibiotics but she only got worse. Runny eyes, congestion, fever, diarrhea, the works. With new intakes, my first thought is always parvo because that’s worst case scenario. Or it was until her.

Dahlia introduced me to a bigger fear than parvo. Distemper.

We’re always extra cautious when we bring in new animals. We quarantine and immediately vaccinate but distemper needs even more precaution as it is airborne and can spread up to 20 feet away. Vaccinating her didn’t help because she was already sick with the virus when I found her. One by one, more kids got sick. Distemper has a 10-20% survival rate. It was literally my worst nightmare. Twelve got sick and we lost nine of them.

But Dahlia fought and won. Distemper has long term effects and can impair a dog for life after the virus is gone. She lost partial mobility in all four legs. And she went blind. But her foster loved her too much to give up on her. We bought a 4 wheeled wheelchair and she did muscle exercises and worked with her for months.

Much like my beloved Reynolds, Dahlia slowly showed improvement. Eventually, she got most of her mobility back and doesn’t need a wheelchair anymore. And some of her vision came back!

Her foster adopted her and she’s living her absolute best life.

One of my favorite survivor stories and a reminder for all of you to keep your pets up to date on vaccinations!

The rescue life has made being thankful very difficult the last couple of years. We’re on an indefinite intake hold due to being over capacity and not having any adoptions. I have lost some of my closest friends to the Rainbow Bridge. Keeping a positive outlook is nearly impossible for me these days.

So it’s extra important for me personally to take a moment to focus on being thankful this Thanksgiving.

I’m thankful for the many years I spent with my friends before they had to leave.

I’m thankful for my fosters that go above and beyond on a daily basis.

I’m thankful to be married to a man who loves animals and supports my efforts to no end.

I’m thankful for the community we have built over the last decade who make sure none of my kids ever go without what they need.

Happy Thanksgiving!
