We are really proud of the new Skuna River Kennel banner. Hats off to Jason Wayne Hunter and Malaina Rizer at Hunter’s Wheelhouse for an outstanding job in designing the banner for us. Reach out to them for all your ad design needs.

Curious as to how many hunters recognize the background photo image for the banner?

I would always say to Mr Wimp, “well maybe we can win a few hunts with ole Skuna” or “maybe he will produce us some good pups”. Mr Wimps reply was always the same. Well maybe you just have fun with him. The rest will take care of itself. Tessie and I sure have our share of fun with him.

This is my hunting pack. (Left to Right) Skuna River Ann, Skuna and Queen 16. Two hour hunt tonight and they went three for three. I very seldom hunt all three together and I don’t know what possessed me to do it tonight. I covered a lot of ground before I got all three of them back together.

And we’re off! Skuna River Skuna off to the races

We had the opportunity to go to the woods with Mr Jason Allen and his dog Skuna River Boe (Skuna River Skuna x Skuna River Cookie II) and Mr Gary Cowsert and his dog Skuna River Moe (Skuna River Skuna x Skuna River Queen 16). These young males sure exhibit strong traits of their dad. They both work a track as hard as you can ask a dog to, they have lots of rpm and can really make a racket on the tree. Both treed solos and had the meat.

As you have probably already noticed I am a fan of old c**n hunting “stuff”. This post really goes way back.

C**n hunting has come a long way over the years, thanks to the many great sportsmen, sportswomen, breed associations and sponsors that we have. Who would have ever thought hunters would have the opportunity to hunt for $100k dollar purses or new trucks. I think Mr Jarvis had that vision but probably not a lot of others back during the early PKC days. I wanted to share a picture of the first ACHA World Championship prize. The first World Championship was held in 1948 in Wickliffe KY. My grandpa Leroy Campbell and his friend Mr Brookes McGill helped organize the Hunt and traveled there to hunt in it. They stayed a week and slept in the back of canvas covered pickup bed.

Mr Wimp, Mr Brookes and my papaw were good friends. Mr Wimp said he even hunted a red
dog out this bloodline back in his early years before Skuna River Kennels came along. That was pre Treeing Walker days of course.

This past weekend kennel youth handler Ethan Coleman had an amazing hunt at the WIGGINS MS YOUTH FUN DAY AND CHAMPIONSHIP handling Skuna River Skuna. Ethan and Skuna were able to secure a best male of show, third place overall, and a cast win in the warmup hunt held on Friday night. Big shout out to the hunt tagged above for putting on a great event. Stay tuned for more of Ethan and Skuna as they chase down an elusive night champion qualification and further Skuna's winnings.

Hey everyone! Welcome to the official Skuna River Kennels page. This is the only page affiliated with the original Skuna River Kennels that began in 1963 under the direction of the late Mr. Winston (Wimp) Aron. Mr. Wimp continued to breed and train the Skuna River hounds across 17 current generations (and still going)! Mr. Wimp's legacy lives on through the work of Skuna River Hound owners, hunters, and breeders. The kennels, hound lineage program, and dog inquiries are now operated by RickyTessie Campbell of Pontotoc, Mississippi and Mark Sumrall of Laurel, Mississippi. This page is moderated by RickyTessie Campbell, Mark Sumrall, and Rick Campbell. Please contact either of these three for any questions regarding kennel operations.

This page will serve as the outlet for all official Skuna River Kennels information including upcoming litters, competition hound results, and all associated information regarding the kennels and hound lineage program. An official kennel website is forthcoming and will be linked on this page's about section. It is also worth noting that all who have or currently own a Skuna River bred hound are a part of this family and there are amazing groups out there like Skuna River Hounds that give the Skuna River Family a place to socialize, network, and talk all things dogs!

So once again, all we ask is that you like, comment, and share this page across your friends and groups to get the word out that Skuna River Kennels is still alive and well! Thank you all for your patronage, support, and friendship. Stayed tuned for more to come and happy hunting!
