Not all horses start out winning the 1D on their 10th run, or even 20th run. Some horses take a little more time and a little more patience. I haven't talked much about Red lately, but he is coming along so nice. He is taking his time moving up the ranks but he gains more confidence and more speed with every single run. He walks quiet in the arena and he pulls up as soon as I ask him so that we can also walk back out of the arena. He is the one my 3 year old can have fun on and he is the one I can count on to make clean runs every time. Out of about 300 entries at the Mother's Day race he won the 4D!! I actually had no idea buckles were being awarded in the open until they confirmed my address telling me buckles and checks were being sent out lol. Way to go Red, his 1st buckle!

Arena was a little too wet to do much so we had a ba****ck day and worked on fundamentals, absolutely loving this c**t by The Red Dasher, he is so much fun!!

**UPDATE** Took Mensa to the chiropractor and her atlas was out. After 2 weeks of stretches, time off and slow work she is BACK!! We are very excited to have her feeling good again, 2022 futurities here we come!

**UPDATE** Took Mensa to the vet and had a full lameness exam done which she passed with flying colors. Then we took an x-ray of her back to check for kissing spine, and that wasn't it. Went ahead and palpated her to check for ovarian cysts or tumors and nothing there. So at this point we aren't sure. We did find that she had a very large follicle so it is possible that was causing her some discomfort. Our plan is to ride her and see if this is still an issue (it's been 5-7 days since the incident). If she seems OK then we are guessing that was it. If not we will continue trying to figure it out. We may try a chiropractor next. We are also going to give Silver Lining Herbs Mare Moods a try (also for other reasons, not just this).

Just wanted to give an update on why we didn't get a video of Mensa at our time onlys this weekend. Mensa has been stiffing me a bit in her turns which isn't like her. Granted we made the big move so I haven't been on her as much as I would like so I thought, well maybe we're just out of sync. Then I noticed she was standing a bit funny, her hind feet were just a little stood back; enough to notice, but not over the top. Then I rode her one day on the pattern and as I set her up for her 3rd barrel she completely stopped and kicked both hind feet to the outside. I immediately got off of her and have made her a vet appointment for this week. Will update with the outcome. She has no obvious lameness anywhere, nothing swollen, and no abrasions. Since she is also hard to see cycle my guess is maybe she has something going on with her ovaries, or something in that sorts. So, please keep Mensa in your thoughts and prayers as we try to help her get back to her gritty self.

It's important to be patient...Patient when working with your horse, patient when working on yourself, and patient with those who are trying to help you. So many times people seek help with their horse and want an immediate fix. I will watch and evaluate, I will ride the horse to see what might really be happening, then I will make a plan. Sometimes riders are disappointed when I take down all the barrels and have them go back to foundation work...but remember...patience! I/we as trainers/coaches/helpers can't properly fix the problem without first teaching you and the horse how to use the proper tools. If that horse needs to move his hip in and has no idea how to move a hip at all, then we first need to teach that horse the tools it will need so we can then go back to the problem and fix it correctly. Yes you can go to another trainer and they might have you continue to work on the pattern and put bandaides on the issue, but if you want to really fix an issue, it must be done properly, and yes that might take longer, but I promise you it will be worth it! So my tip for the day is...have patience 🐴

Tip for the day...don't forget to focus on yourself when you are riding. Sometimes its easy to get distracted on the horse and forget your fundamentals. If the horse isn't reacting properly, it could be something you are doing...happy riding friends.
