K9 Dirk was requested on 09-23-2024 to assist another agency on a traffic stop. K9 handler Officer Keffer deployed K9 Dirk for an exterior sniff of the vehicle. K9 Dirk alerted on the vehicle for the presence of narcotics.
The requesting agency conducted a search of the vehicle which resulted in the seizure of narcotics and a stolen firearm

Last night K-9 Dirk was sworn in at the Delmont Borough Council meeting with his partner Officer Dylan Keffer. The K-9 unit would like to thank Borough Council and Mayor Alyce Urban for their support of the program. The K-9 unit would like to thank Senator Kim Ward for a $60,000 dollar grant that will go towards the purchase and outfit of K-9 vehicle. The K-9 unit would also like to thank Westmoreland County District Attorney Nicole Ziccarelli who was present during the meeting and her office for their support and their donation of $6,000 dollars that will go towards K-9 Dirks training. We look forward to serving the community together!

FAQ: Can a pup from working lines be suitable as a family companion/active pet?

Below we have posted two videos of litter mate sisters to demonstrate the spectrum of drive/temperaments you may see within a litter that has the SAME pedigree(2nd video will be in the comments). While each litter may yield a different percentage of working quality dogs, no litter is yielding 100% the same quality of dog. While every pup in a litter might be suitable for some type of work, most of us are ecstatic to see a 60-70% yield of serious workers. This is certainly not the case for every litter. That being said, a pedigree can tell you a bit about what to expect from a dog but it is far more important to consider the dog in front of you.
