Poquoson Animal Welfare Sanctuary, Inc. P.A.W.S. is a 501c3 nonprofit dedicated to cat rescue near Poquoson, VA. Sanctuary & 2nd Chances. These are cats that would not make it in our shelter system!

Poquoson Animal Welfare Sanctuary, or P.A.W.S., came to be in 2013 when lovely rescuer Barbara Holloway deeded her property to a handful of like minded rescuers upon her death. Barbara trapped, neutered and returned many ferals in our community and was their constant caregiver, although she was battling cancer. She kept wonderful records of all of the injured and abandoned friendly cats she rehabi

litated and found homes for many of them. Poquoson gave P.A.W.S., a 501(c)3 organization, a conditional use permit to house 100 cats on the 3 acre property with house and cat condos. Our cats are "adopted" by wonderful people who wish to allow them to live their lives at the sanctuary. We have ferals, semi ferals, friendly cats with behavior issues and medical special needs. We have fixed over 1500 cats in our area to stop the overpopulation and suffering. Citizens contact us about lost and found cats and we are often able to help get them back home to appreciative owners. We do loan humane traps and give advice on ways to catch a lost cat. Our rescue is run strictly by volunteers who give their time and compassion to ensure the kitties are healthy, happy and loved! We spay/neuter and get veterinary care for many cats and provide food for colony caregivers throughout the city. Our adoptable cats and kittens are cared for and adopted out through our foster care families. We are very thankful for Barbara's generosity and mission as we continue to carry it forward in her memory! A compassionate Good Samaritan rescued them from a dire situation, and now they need a nurturing home to thrive. December, a rare polydactyl gray kitten, boasts stunning white mittens, while Sunday, with her beautiful frosted tortie fur, looks like she's been kissed by a snow fairy. These sweet but scared kittens have made tremendous progress in trusting people, so we're seeking a patient and loving family to provide them with the care they deserve. Hearing people describe it as amazing, beautiful, inspiring, and something they look forward to seeing every year is truly heartwarming. Wythe Creek Road will close for the Annual Poquoson Holiday Parade!

A HUGE THANK YOU to the amazing team of Ronda McLean, Doug Carter, Mrs. Esther Freeman, Mr. Henry Freeman, Bill Muthig, Julie Muthig, and Joey Hanberry for their incredible dedication. This group went above and beyond, dedicating countless hours and even using their own funds to create another spectacular float for the Poquoson Animal Welfare Sanctuary! 🐈‍⬛🐾❤️

We’d also like to thank the many generous people who donated candy for us to toss along the route and the amazing volunteers joining us in the parade.

Today is the day!!
If each one of my family/friends on my personal list gave JUST $5…You could say you helped run the Poquoson Animal Sanctuary for 1 month!! How cool would that be??
$5 can purchase a bag of litter, feed 5 kitties, 3 bags of treats, and when it adds up it does BIG things!! For example: Spay/neuter appointments, surgery for an amputation, insulin for a special needs kitty, and so much more... So instead of stopping for a coffee, a biscuit, a Red Bull to get through the day. Help us or your favorite non-profit today!!
