Childrens camp 2024

Greetings Mitakuyepi (Relatives)- our children/youth healing camp will be held in our sacred Black Hills on August 6-10, 2024 we have 65 registered!

Free???.. The dominant society says we as native americans get everything free.. And we dont pay taxes.. Not to mention we get money every month for being "Indian"..well not true.. We pay a state tax.. Federal tax.. And a Tribal tax.. We should be compensated for all the land they took.. All the mineral resources.. Timber.. Not to mention all the lives lost under their manifest destiny.. FREE???

Congress bans all Native dancing and ceremonies, including the Sun Dance, Ghost Dance, potlatches, and the practices of medicine persons. The Code gives Indian agents authority to use force, imprisonment, and the withholding of rations to stop any cultural practices they deem immoral or subversive to federal government-mandated assimilation policies. Courts of Indian Offenses are created as well as Indian police forces, established, paid for, and supervised by the federal government to replace Native governance. Enforcement of this law eventually leads to the massacre of Big Foot's band at Wounded Knee in 1890. Commission of Indian Affairs Charles Burke continues to issue anti-dancing directives well into the 1920s. The Code is amended in 1933 to eliminate the ban on Indian dances. The effect of this law is to drive Indian religious ceremonies such as the Ghost dance and the Sun dance underground. This piece of legislation is not repealed until the 1970s. The Code is one of various methods that the U.S. employs to try to restrict the cultural identity of American Indian tribes. Many political, cultural, and spiritual leaders are imprisoned (Nies, 1996 & "Code of Indian offenses," 1883).

Just imagine as Indigenous people our children were taken from their homes .. most times forcibly.. sent thousands of miles away.. and many times never returned home.. lying in an unmarked grave.. the parents waiting for their children to return home.. waiting until they died.. this is isn’t Genocide .. I don’t know what is.. who will answer for this atrocity?

On this day In 1890 Tatanka Iyotake was Assassinated in Inyan Woslahe(Standing Rock) it was a Political Assassination because he opposed the US in trying to break up remaining Treaty land into 9 Reservations.. he became a Holy Man at age 14 after he killed an enemy. Soon after this he could understand Meadow Larks!
