Haida artist work to be on display in House of Learning
PORT ANGELES — Artwork by Susan Hamilton, Haida Master Bead Artist, will be on display in House of Learning, Peninsula College Longhouse from Tuesday to Dec. 14.
The exhibit includes a series of beaded Octopus Bags and other beaded artworks. Each of Hamilton’s Octopus Bags is personalized for an individual; the works were inspired by a display of these distinctly shaped bags that Hamilton viewed at the Alaska State Museum while visiting her family in Juneau, Alaska.
Much of Hamilton’s art celebrates her culture with traditional design and is interwoven with Alaskan scenery and wildlife.
Hamilton graduated from Peninsula College in June 2023. She was the Longhouse Guest Artist in 2012 and is excited to return to the Art Gallery with a new collection of beaded artworks to showcase.
A free artist reception will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 14 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. in House of Learning, Peninsula College Longhouse. Fall quarter gallery hours are Tuesday through Thursday, 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. or by appointment.

On September 24 at 1 pm I will be hosting a celebration of life for my brother, George E. Hamilton III. It will be at my home in Port Angeles. The address is 317 S. Jones Street. I will be serving some his favorite foods. Side dishes, chips, and deserts are welcome. Also beverages. Hope to see you there to celebrate a good but flawed human being. He helped so many people get clean and sober. He is with our father and ancestors now. He fought so hard to continue living but his body was very broken and tired. The picture is my grandmom holding a newborn baby George and me standing next to him.

I am a self taught Haida bead artist. I create wearable jewelry. My designs are traditional Haida designs, scenic Alaska designs, and sometimes beaded designs of friends pets. All my pieces are special order and my signature additions are Swarovski Crystals for a little bling!!!!

I am Alaskan Haida and I am a self taught bead artist. Here are samples of my work. The majority of my work focuses on my culture, scenic Alaska, and at times my friends pets. I sell my work by request. It takes me about two days to create a bracelet. Prices are based on the size of the piece. What sets my work apart is I have incorporated Swarovski Crystals in my work. I love Bling and what better way to get bling than by adding Swarovski Crystals!!!! Enjoy and if you are interested, let me know.

This is an album showcasing some of my beaded pieces that are for sale by ordering. I am Alaskan Haida and my work reflects my heritage and the scenic sites of Alaska. My signature addition to my beading is I incorporate Swarovski Crystals in my work. I love bling and nothing blings more than a Swarovski!!!
