🐾 Clay’s Doggy Day Out! 🐾

Our hearts are so full today! Bob, who fostered Clay during the Hurricane, took him out for a special adventure—and we absolutely love seeing this side of him!

So many dogs don’t show their true personalities in the shelter, but days like this remind us just how amazing they are. Clay had the best time—he loved the car ride, was fascinated by the waves, picked out treats and a toy at the pet store, and even got to enjoy a pup cup! 🐶💙

Meet Rusty and Nesta: Looking for Their Furever Homes!

🐾 Rusty

Rusty is a 4 year old mix with a heart full of love. He’s been waiting for his forever family since November 2024. Rusty is great with other dogs and adores people—he’s been the star of the show at several events! If you’re looking for a loyal and friendly companion, Rusty might just be your perfect match.

🐾 Nesta

Nesta is a sweet 3 1/2 year old domestic shorthair who has been with us since January 3, 2025. She’s currently available for adoption at Pet Supplies Plus in Port Charlotte. With her affectionate personality and curious nature, Nessa will make a wonderful addition to any home.

❤️ Each Valentine card is just $5, or you can get 5 for $20 (Buy 4, Get 1 Free!).
❤️ Every Valentine comes with a Milk Bone or cat treats  for you to give to one of our pups or cats.
❤️ Place your Valentine in the dog’s or cats Valentine bag hanging on their kennel and make their day extra special!

Let’s show these sweet souls they are loved while they wait for their forever homes! 💌🐕

All proceeds go towards our Enrichment Program.

At Animal Welfare League, we understand how heartbreaking it can be when rising veterinary costs leave pet parents unable to afford emergency care for their beloved furry family members. Too often, we’ve seen devoted pet owners forced to make the painful decision to give up their cherished pets due to financial barriers.

That’s why we’re proud to announce the Promise Fund, a new program dedicated to assisting approved pet parents with emergency veterinary care expenses through an application process. Our goal is simple: to keep happy pets in happy homes.

We need your help to make this promise a reality! We are currently in the fundraising phase of the program and need your support to help pets and families in need.

Every donation brings us closer to ensuring that no family has to say goodbye to their best friend simply because they couldn’t afford care.

What an amazing day at Bert's Black Widow Harley-Davidson! 🏍️ We had so much fun meeting everyone, and one lucky pup, Boscoe, even found his forever home! 🐾 While we loved seeing so many people come out to give our dogs love and attention, we know there’s still a perfect match waiting for you.

If you’re looking for your next best friend, stop by our shelter any day of the week from 11 AM to 5 PM—we’d love to help you find “the one.” And if you’re in the market for a new ride, Bert’s Black Widow Harley-Davidson is the place to go! ~~Meet Tony~~

Hi, my name is Tony! You ever play a game called keep-away? That's what loving me is like. I absolutely adore rubbing against your leg and the occasional butt-rub, and then make you follow me all around the house for another. I used to be totally stand-offish when I came into the shelter, and through being in one of the open rooms at the adoption center, I have learned a lot of patience for smothering love. All I ask is that you do the same and give me some space when I need it. One thing you never have to worry about with Tony is mixing up his signals, he is very clear what he is feeling at the moment. Whether that's cuddly and cute, or I am feeling introverted, I won't be shy to tell you. If you're looking for a big goofball like me to keep you company and explore your house, I am the perfect option! I am a great cat, I just need an even better home.

~~Meet Gator~~

Hello, my name is..."Gator" and even though I may look rough and tough as a junk yard dog, I am a real softie at heart. I have a few favorites here and when they bring out the treats, they have my full attention. So be prepared, I love to eat!
Although I don't like to talk much, let me tell you a little bit about myself. I do like to walk, I am told I walk very good on the leash, and I try to keep a clean kennel. I am very curious about other dogs, so you might have to let me meet any future brother or sisters. Children scare me so I would prefer to live my perfect dream life with just Mom and Dad and older children please.
I will be your loyal companion to the end. All I would need is a soft loving pat on my head and a spot on the floor beside my Hooman while watching TV or just watching the beautiful Florida sunrises/sunsets.

Once upon a time, in a shelter filled with hope and love, there lived 17 senior dogs and 7 senior cats, each with a story as unique as their gentle hearts. For those willing to open their hearts, there’s a little magic waiting. The adoption fees for these senior companions are as heartwarming as their cuddles:
🐾 Senior Dogs (7 years and older):
• $75 for medium and large breeds
• $140 for dogs under 25 lbs
🐾 Senior Cats: Only $50
