** PLEASE SHARE ** We have an amazing dog park and dog park community, and nearly all of our park users are thoughtful about picking up after their dogs and themselves. With that said, last night I picked up 14 cigarette butts in the park. The most ridiculous thing is that they were all directly beneath or within a foot of the provided cigarette butt receptacle. Cigarette butts are both toxic to dogs and create a fire danger when conditions are like they are now. Please clean up after yourself while using the park for the safety of our dogs and the community. If this continues to be a problem, our board and paid members will need to revisit our policy on smoking within the park. Thank you. — Jamie Rokus, board member

Thank you to everyone who purchased 50/50 raffle tickets at Saturday’s Wisconsin Rapids Rafters game, and thank you to the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters Baseball Club for again allowing us to hold our fundraiser at the stadium. A special thanks to all of our amazing volunteers.

We raised a group record $708 this year to support our Port Edwards dog park!! ❤🐶

Why should you become a paid member of Friends of Scentrail Bark Community Park? Because it is a great way to support our dog park AND it gives you a voice in decisions about what happens at our park.

Our board holds several fundraisers throughout the year, but keeping a dog park up and running requires additional funds as well. Annual memberships help with our annual payment to the village, garbage pick-up costs, PO box fees, garbage bags for our waste stations and any unexpected maintenance fees. We have worked very hard to not have to charge a park user fee, and this is a great way to support that too.

Annual Friends memberships run March 1 to Feb. 28 each year and cost $25 per person, $40 for co-residents and $60 for a household of three or more. Paid members also can vote on important park and board decisions. If you have any questions about a Friends membership, don’t hesitate to reach out. You can print off a membership form here, or we’d be happy to mail a copy of the form to you. Thank you in advance for your support. ❤🐶

THANK YOU!! THANK YOU!! THANK YOU!!

Thank you to our current and former board members who helped out with Saturday’s brat fry. Thank you to everyone who stopped by to purchase a delicious lunch. Thank you to Quality Foods for allowing us to hold our fundraiser there again this year. And thank you Mother Nature for the BEAUTIFUL day. It was our most successful brat fry to date and we raised almost $700 for maintenance and upkeep at our dog park. ❤🐶

Today marks one year since we opened Scentrail Bark Community Park. And we are so excited to have shared this year with all of you. We have met so many incredible pet parents and new puppy friends this year through our playdates and time at the park, and we can’t wait to see what the next year holds.

On that note: We have a VERY important meeting Monday, Dec. 4 (TOMORROW) at 7 p.m. at Port Edwards United Methodist Church where we will select the leadership team to direct our park for the next 2 years. We are in need of a new president and a new secretary due to resignations. These are roles we MUST fill in order to move forward. We need everyone’s help to make this park a success. If you are unable to join the leadership team, we are also in need of volunteers to help with park upkeep and fundraising efforts. We will have treats at the meeting to celebrate our birthday too!! ❤🐶

URGENT POST. PLEASE READ.

The truth is that many people and pups use and love our park, but only a small handful of very dedicated volunteers attend our meetings, run our fundraisers, and help with essential park maintenance. The harsh reality is, if more people don’t step up to help with these needs our organization cannot continue.

Our greatest immediate need is for someone to step up to serve as president of our organization for the 2024-2026 term. In order for Friends of Scentrail Bark Community Park to exist, legally, we need a president. Without someone in this role we lose our organization and our nonprofit status, and the future of the park is unknown.

Jen Gray and Jamie Rokus have graciously agreed to continue on in their board positions and committee assignments, but we must have someone in the role of president.

The title sounds scary, but the job duties and time commitment have gotten far less since the park opened. The president’s main roles are to serve as a liaison between the organization and the village when we have questions or concerns, to promote the park, to help plan and attend the monthly dog park play dates in the spring-fall, to hold 2-3 formal organization meetings during the year as needed, and to work with Jen on grounds/maintenance issues and Jamie on fundraising events.

Our final meeting of the year and determination of officers for the next term will be at 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 4 at Port Edwards United Methodist Church. 🙂 Don’t forget, we are scheduled to meet tonight at 7 pm.

This is an important meeting as we nominate officers and move forward. If we don’t have enough interest in membership or service as an officer, grounds help, or help at fund raisers this organization may be forced to make difficult decisions.

🏆 Overall we have come a heck of a long way since January of 2020. I am proud to have been a part of this group and amazed at the tenacity of our team.
If you can attend tonight’s meeting in person, please do so. If there is absolutely no way you can attend, send us a private message on Facebook and I will send you a Zoom link and password. Our meeting will need to start promptly at 7 pm and will be 40 minutes in length due to limitations of the Zoom app.
