an update from city council: In March of this year, the City Council adopted a Parks Master Plan (PMP). That document includes conceptual plans for park improvements at all City Parks. The PMP identifies two potential locations for dog parks: a property adjacent to the beach and Bubbling Springs Park.

Two of the projects included in the PMP, those for Bolker and Bubbling Springs, were identified as eligible candidates for state grant funds and applications have been submitted. We expect to learn about the success of our applications in late summer. Additionally, the prioritization and assignment of funding for all of the City’s capital needs will be identified in the next Capital budget.

We have an exciting update. We met with City Council member Rich Rollins today @ our makeshift dog park at Bubbling springs park. We exchanged information and he agreed to get the ball rolling with us. The Hueneme Cannabis dispensaries will be contacted for sponsorship and donations. Port Hueneme Dog Park will be on topic for next weeks city council meeting!

We are raising money for Dog Park funds in Port Hueneme, Ca. the potential site is Dewar Park on Scott St.

Funds are needed to:

1, clear the site of rocks/pebbles and debris
2. Install Perimeter fencing for two sides of the park (Big Dogs/Small Dogs)
3. Install Water Supply for both sides
4. install Sod/Grass
4. Install dog waste bag dispensers
5. Install Trashcans for waste
6: Install benches/tables for seating
7. May need adequate lighting for fall season

First objective is to move the pebbles/rocks to the brush/perimeter and prepare the landscape for grass seed.
Ill be starting the project this week and continue working on it as much as I can weekday mornings and after 7PM Weekdays and weekends to avoid the heat. Soon Dewar Park will be a legit Dog Park with Waste bags, water, fencing and plenty of parking. cheers!
