Tomorrow is the big night! If you are going out to a fancy gala or barn party, having a few friends over, or just spending quality time with family, we wish you a Happy New Year!
Remember December 20-Jan 2 is when hospitals and urgent cares report the most in-home, known dog/family dog bites.
😠👊🏻 No Fighting, No Biting!
Kids under 10 live in “Doggy Land” because of their height. Their face is right at dog face level. They have a tough time recognizing human facial moments for emotion like the difference between a real smile and a fake polite one. Activities like puzzles and board games at the kitchen table put kids in Grown Up Land. Not wandering around with people food in Doggy Land is a good idea, too. Kids are most likely to be bitten in the face and hands. Seniors 65+ and people who move differently are more likely to get bit on hands, arms, ankles, and calves. If your dog or cat seems stressed by all the interaction, give them one-one time. See our Christmas Eve post for more ideas!
🎉🥳🎊 It’s loud in the clurb! 🎉🥳🎊
Pay attention to dogs and cats with noise phobias! Kazoos, fireworks , vuvuzelas, fun Uncle Matt’s Bavarian horn — those are a lot. Plan ahead to put pooch in a room with an enrichment item around 11:30.
🎩 All must pass dress code & show ID: 🪪
- Make sure your dog is wearing her collar a license, or at least with an ID tag or your number written in sharpie on a nylon collar.
- It’s not too late to Microchip! And if your dog is microchipped, verify your contact info is correct by going to the microchip manufacturer’s website.
Pay attention to the door!
If everyone is going in and out a door or gate, it may be a good idea for dogs and cats to have their own room to chill. Or having you dog on a leash clipped to you belt loop. (Leash reactivity in chaotic environments is weird, so if you use this method, monitor for stress.
From all of us to all of you, SCCAC Staff and volunteers wish you a Happy New Year!
