🦃🍁 Thanksgiving Pet Safety Tips! 🍁🦃

Keep the holiday happy and healthy for your furry family members! Here’s how to keep tails wagging all weekend long:

✨ Turkey Time: A little plain, cooked turkey is okay, but skip the skin and bones. They can be dangerous for pets!
✨ No Toxic Treats: Onions, garlic, chives, grapes, raisins, chocolate, and xylitol (birch sugar) are HUGE no-nos for dogs and cats.
✨ Stuffing Isn’t For Snouts: Delicious for humans, but unsafe for pets due to seasonings and ingredients.
✨ Sweet Treat Caution: Pumpkin pie is for people only! Offer a tablespoon plain canned pumpkin or pet-safe pumpkin treats instead. (With maybe a dollop of whipped cream!)
✨ Trash Patrol: Keep the garbage secure, especially for trash hounds and table scrap scrappers.

✨ Visitor Awareness: With company coming and going, make sure pets don’t slip out the door.

✨Favorite Family are Strangers! You may have been inseparable as kids, but now that you only see each other a few times a year, remember Favorite Cousin is a stranger!

✨Naps aren’t just for post-dinner humans! Dogs and cats need rest and quiet, too. Set up a success station for pets to get a little peace and quiet!

🧡 Wishing you and your four-legged friends a safe, cozy, food-filled Thanksgiving! 🐾🍂

🍁🐾 Kongsgiving 2025 was a HIT! 🐾🍁

A huge, heartfelt thank you to Bark Nation for letting us participate in again this year! Our entire staff looks forward to this event all year long — and you never disappoint.

From the awesome goodie bags to the homemade treats, everything was absolutely perfect. Our dogs were over-the-moon excited and truly loved every single moment (and every single snack!) 💛🐶

We’re so grateful for your continued support and for everything you do for pets and the people who care for them. Happy Kongsgiving! 🦃❤️

🐾🧡 Wishing You and Your Pets a Happy Thanksgiving! 🧡🐾

As we gather for food, family, and festivities, here are five easy tips to help keep your pets safe this holiday season:

1️⃣ Be mindful of table scraps
Fatty foods like turkey skin, meat fat, and gravy can cause pancreatitis—even in small amounts. Instead, offer pet-safe treats like small pieces of cheese, unseasoned green beans, plain pumpkin, or sweet potatoes.

2️⃣ Secure the trash
Discarded bones, strings, turkey bags, and food packaging can be dangerous if eaten. Keep trash bags tightly closed and stored behind a door, in the garage, or outside to prevent curious pets from getting into them.

3️⃣ Prevent escape attempts
With guests coming and going, it’s easy for pets to slip out unnoticed. Make sure your pets are wearing identification tags and that their microchips are updated with your current contact information.

4️⃣ Create a quiet space
The noise, people, and activity can be overwhelming. Set up a calm room stocked with your pet’s essentials—food, water, bedding, litter pan, etc.—so they have a safe retreat if they need a break from the excitement.

5️⃣ Avoid stress and bites
If your dog is nervous around strangers or tends to guard toys or food, keep them in a separate room during your gathering. Turn on a TV or radio for soothing background noise and give them a distraction like a peanut butter-filled Kong or a lick mat with wet food. It’s perfectly okay if your dog prefers alone time—we get it!

Have a safe and happy Thanksgiving! 🍁🦃🐶🐱

Know the Basics:

Using a spray bottle or a shaker can might stop a behavior in the moment, but it can cause lasting harm to your relationship and your cat’s emotional well-being. Here’s why these methods don’t work — and what to do instead:

🚫 1. They Damage Trust

Cats don’t understand that the water or noise is linked to their behavior.
They only learn that you become unpredictable or scary. Let’s be honest, we typically fall back on these types of management strategies when WE are frustrated. This can create fear, anxiety, and avoidance.

🚫 2. They Don’t Teach the Right Behavior

Punishment only interrupts behavior; it never teaches what your cat should do.
This leaves the underlying issue completely unsolved.

🚫 3. They Increase Stress (and Stress Creates More Problems)

Loud noises, sudden sprays, or startling sensations can heighten a cat’s stress levels — leading to behaviors like hiding, aggression, overgrooming, or inappropriate urination.

🚫 4. They Can Make Behaviors Worse

A frightened or anxious cat may lash out, avoid people, or redirect its stress into new unwanted behaviors.

So try these tips instead!
