I can’t say enough about the importance of getting your horses on the trails. It’s good for the soul, both yours and theirs. Training just isn’t complete unless you test it in the wide open fields, and through obstacles in the woods. And, it’s the perfect venue for practicing much of what you’ve been working on in the arena. Test your leg yields moving to and away from branches or other obstacles, ask for body control and positioning for proper lead departures, check in on those downward transitions and half halts, and even try your lead changes down a long stretch of a dirt road. There are so many benefits to it that we’ve made it a huge part of our program. If your horse needs a tune up on the trails, give us a call. We are accepting bookings into the fall.

It has been a wonderful Christmas, starting with a beautiful dinner venue and white elephant gift exchange with our barn family at the Hublersburg Inn, and culminating in some family visits. We are now eagerly awaiting to experience what the new year brings with some new foals, new goals, and new adventures ahead. Cheers to a fantastic 2024!

Desensitizing is great for every horse to get them prepared for many venues and scenarios. But, each horse comes along at a different rate in the desensitizing process. As a handler you must strive to know when and how much pressure to add, and more importantly, when to time the release of pressure to create the learned behavior in the horse. Timing is everything. In this video, the horse has had much of the groundwork from our program, and has had a good bit of desensitizing to the tarp. We demonstrate here, how well a horse can take to the tarp and some goals to strive for with your horses.
