Meet Luna! She belongs to one of our veterinary assistants Dani, who has worked at Woodside for almost 3 years now. Luna is a 16-year-old blue Abyssinian that Dani adopted from California when she was only a few weeks old. Luna is on a specialized kidney diet, as well as long-term medications due to her medical issues. Despite her health challenges, she has not lost her
s***k. Luna is a sassy old lady, who is not afraid to tell you what she wants and when she wants it; especially when it time for her to eat. Luna spends her golden years snuggled up in someone’s lap, where she can get all of the chin scratches she wants; or lounging in a sunny window.

Bats are most active during warm summer months. While bats play an important role in our ecosystem, they can spread rabies.
In Washington state, bats are the only animal known to carry rabies. Rabies is a disease caused by a virus. It infects the central nervous system (brain and spinal cord) of people and animals. Rabies infection almost always causes death. However, people who are exposed to rabies can prevent infection by getting prompt medical treatment.
Bats can spread rabies by biting, scratching, or licking a person or animal. Most bats do not have rabies, but it's important to keep your family and pets safe by avoiding contact with bats and making sure pets are vaccinated.
WHAT TO DO IF YOU HAVE CONTACT WITH A BAT
If you or a loved one knows they had contact with a bat, or thinks they may have had contact with a bat, be sure to:
Look all over your body for bites or scratches. Bats have very small teeth, so the bites may not be immediately visible.
Wash the bite, scratch, or contact area(s) immediately with soap and water for at least 10 minutes.
If possible, try to safely capture the bat for rabies testing. Wear thick gloves when handling the bat.
Contact your healthcare provider or Kitsap Public Health District at 360-728-2235.
If you think your pet had contact with a bat, contact your veterinarian.

Ruby belongs to our Assistant Hospital Manager, Jen.
Ruby is a 13 (14 in September) year old American Staffordshire Terrier. She LOVES dressing up. When Jen brings home new things to wear or brings out her chest of clothes she gets so excited and sits at Jens feet until she’s fully dressed! She has learned over the years that as soon as Jen takes the picture she can shed the clothes, and does so by rolling around like a crazy girl on the floor – always watching for Jen to laugh. She loves to make people happy.
Jens favorite thing about Ruby is she’s always up to go! Their favorite place to go is Ocean Shores. They have traveled across country together and enjoyed every second of the trip!
