DID YOU KNOW that you can donate gently used bird toys to Port Orchard Parrot Rescue and Sanctuary? We clean them up and disinfect them to make sure they're safe for our birds to use, and we also sell some of them at a steep discount to help raise funds for our resident birds. These funds are used to help pay for daily needs (food, cleaning products, etc.) as well as veterinary care when needed.

Now you know. :-)

Parrots, like all animals, can experience pain, but they are skilled at hiding their discomfort due to their instinct to avoid appearing vulnerable in the wild. As a parrot owner, it’s important to be able to recognize subtle signs of pain in your feathered friend to ensure they receive the care they need. Identifying when your parrot is in pain and knowing how to respond can make a significant difference in their health and well-being.

Hardly a day goes by without me seeing a heartbreaking post from someone whose parrot flew away unexpectedly. Many are never recovered and almost none of them have the skills necessary to survive long in the wild.

Flight feather trimming - done correctly - is painless, inexpensive, and temporary. If you're not certain that your bird's environment can't be compromised by someone inadvertently losing their focus, accidentally leaving a door or window open, please consider trimming your bird's flight feathers.

Todd

P.S. I will not debate the pros and cons of doing this. I know it's a controversial topic and I have no argument with those who choose to allow their birds to fly freely. If you disagree, please keep scrolling. Thanks.
