ADOPTED

We are disappointed these best friends are still listed for adoption! Their rescuers say they are loving, gentle and affectionate. Will you help us get the word out about them today? We'd love for their adopter-to-be to see them and give them a home so they can remain together forever! 💞

Kami and Lola are adorable Pug/Beagle mixes, each with a unique look! Kami is about 8 years old, she weighs 18 pounds. Lola is 9 years old, she weighs 20 pounds. Both girls are on the chubby side. It would benefit both of them to lose a little weight through diet and gentle exercise.

Lola and Kami are said to be good with other friendly dogs, cats and gentle children. They are an affectionate, bonded pair who have been through a lot together. It is time for them to finally find the forever home they deserve.

Reportedly house trained, they are said to be in good shape. Lola did lose an eye at some point in her life but she does just fine getting around with one eye. As always, we remind potential adopters to be certain they can commit to the lifetime care of a dog, with good quality dog food and regular veterinary care.

The girls appreciate short daily walks and time for naps. They sound like low maintenance dogs who will be very happy to remain together. They love each other and they love their humans.

Kami and Lola need an adoptive home very soon. They are posted for CHEW Dog Rescue, they are being fostered in Gig Harbor, WA.

These are not ODH dogs; we urge prospective adopters to do their own evaluation.

We always enjoy the tennis ball puzzle, So I thought I would share the idea.
We use this neat Ikea tray (yard sale) and nine old tennis balls, but before I found it, I just used an old muffin tin and six balls. This is where my old tennis balls go to die 🤣 But any balls or toys that will cover the holes will do.
I just hide a few treats under one ball before presenting the puzzle to a dog or two, (depending on the DOG) and see how many balls it takes them to find the treat. Some dogs get it on the first try! Some of them get a big bang out of moving the balls around with their noses and ignore the treats! But everybody has fun.
File this game away in your brain for your dog on some upcoming boring rainy day! It's easy to do with things you have at home. Lots of ways to make it different or more challenging too.
Thank you Norm, champ, Murphy, Ruby and Arlo for a fun morning in the playroom. 🙂

🐾BEHIND THE
MUD CURTAIN🐾

Part 1:
Got any toys?
A regular client just noticed this toy chest in the Dog Ranch playroom. She said, " Wow! I didn't even know you did toys here. I never see them laying around.."

That's right, you never do. 🤓

We actually have quite a few toys here at the DR, but because we have so many guests, we must be picky about quality and safety. Because dogs have lots of different play styles, each day's toy choices must accommodate who is here. Some days, that means no toys, and the dogs just enjoy each other. This all makes getting things out of the toy chest an EVENT 🥳 with the focus on safety and of course fun! I have spent a few dollars and learned a few lessons on my dog toy journey,
here are a few toy tips from our playroom:

1. Determine your dog's style of play and chewing and shop accordingly. Pick quality over quantity. If an indestructible dog toy exists out there, I have never found it. Some toys just last longer than others. On that note, try not to fall for the super adorable 🧸over play value. Dogs do not care what the toy is supposed to represent, so be strong and don't pay extra for that. It is going in their mouth, choose accordingly.

2. You might keep a favorite toy or two accessible at all times, but I highly recommend presenting toys as an ACTIVITY, as in, you bring out all or part of the collection for supervised play, you collect all items when play is done. This extends the life of the toy, the interest of the dog, and prevents any surprises the toy, no matter how wonderful, presents. Which brings me to the inevitable rule number 3 which is...

3. To some (many!) Dogs, the fun of the toy is completely destroying it. This is where quality and durability come into play. My golden rule with toys is, once the dog is able to take it apart, even a small piece, the toy is retired. This can be rough if that purple lemur was expensive. Think of it as a nice dinner out. You enjoyed it, you overpaid...just savor the the sweet memory. 🙄
Learn from toy mistakes, consider another brand or style next time.

Picture #2 is a good (sad!) example of a toy who must retire. The damage is small, but insides are accessible, so out he goes.

4. Keep your toys clean. No, your dog does not care, but you might if he drags that muddy nylabone up on the bed. All dog toys should be at least surface washable or they are a hard pass.

5. If you have a lot of toys like we do, keeping them put away/rotating them will help you recognize damage and wear, and identify toys your dog is enjoying most, or could use a few more of. We find this much more convenient than storing everything under the couch!

Got any toy tips to share with our community? We would love to hear them! 🐾🐾
