July 1st was sad day for herpers across Florida, despite all our protesting and petitioning, the order was passed putting the Green Iguana and the Argentine Tegu on the states Prohibited List ( See https://myfwc.com/media/23982/eo20-19.pdf). They are however allowing 90 days for those of us who currently own them to pay to have them tagged with a PIT (which stabbing my 4ft Male Tegu with a needle is not on my bucket list) . Once tagged then we can apply for a permit to keep them, having to check in every 3 months to confirm their status. All that aside, as its just a inconvenience , albeit an expensive one... the real crime and the huge issue is the UOC that goes with this order, meaning they are required now by FL law that if they are caught/confiscated they are to be destroyed on site. They (the animals) didn't do this, irresponsible pet owners, the import trade and underfunded zoos have cause this, and now these awesome reptiles are now on the death list.
