🚨PARVO WARNING – City of Fort Pierce 🚨

We want to alert our community that the Fort Pierce Animal Adoption Center (FPAAC) has had three confirmed cases of parvovirus (parvo) in dogs brought in by Animal Control this week alone. Additionally, our veterinary partners in the area have reported a noticeable increase in parvo cases over the past two weeks.

Parvo is highly contagious, especially during the rainy season when it spreads easily through soil, water, and contact with infected f***s. It can live in the environment for months and is often fatal if left untreated especially for puppies and unvaccinated dogs.

🐾 What We’re Doing:
• Our Animal Control Officers are actively going door-to-door in neighborhoods near affected areas to alert residents and provide information.
• We’ve updated intake and prevention protocols to reduce the risk of spread inside the shelter.

✅ What You Can Do to Protect Your Pets:
• Vaccinate your dogs especially puppies against parvo immediately.
• Avoid public spaces like dog parks and grassy areas if your pet is not fully vaccinated.
• Clean up pet waste promptly and thoroughly.
• Watch for symptoms: vomiting, diarrhea (especially bloody), lethargy, loss of appetite, and fever.

If your dog shows any signs of illness, contact a veterinarian immediately.

Let’s work together to stop the spread and keep our pets and neighborhoods safe! 💙🐶
