❀2 Dogs walk into a shelter and I'll give you one guess which one is still there!

Yep, Larry, the brindle baby on the left. At only 2 years old, he's been in the shelter twice because his owners would not or could not care for their dogs. What do we know about Larry? He's lived with larger and smaller dogs. He's housebroken and walks beautifully on a leash. So who's the big-hearted person who's going to step up for Big Larry? He's 65 lbs of love! ❀

Larry can be rescued, fostered, adopted or fostered to adoption! He's located at Palm Beach County Animal Care & Control at 7100 Belvedere Rd. West Palm Beach, FL

🐢 SMOKE'S SECOND CHANCE πŸ–€

This young boy is smoke, a brave and beloved dog, who is in critical need of immediate medical care. After his insatiable curiosity led him to ingesting something he shouldn't have, Smoke has had severe complications and been unable to eat for the last 7 days.

We are desperately seeking assistance in covering the costs of Smoke's necessary medical procedures, examinations, and potential treatments. As a non-profit organization, we rely on the kindness and generosity of compassionate individuals within our community to help us provide the care that animals, like Smoke, urgently need.

Your support, whether through a monetary donation or spreading the word to others who may be able to assist, can make a significant difference in Smoke's life. With your help, we can ensure that Smoke receives the prompt and comprehensive medical attention he requires to alleviate his suffering and restore his well-being.

You can donate to help us cover Smoke's road to recovery here - https://www.flipcause.com/secure/cause_pdetails/MTgyNzI0 or you can help us spread the word about Smoke and our fight to give him a second chance πŸ’š 🐾

*Jason here. A question I have been getting a lot is β€œhow do you rehabilitate a biting dog?” Like most dog training questions this one is hard to answer in a vacuum because every dog is different and every dog’s β€œmotivation” to bite is different.

The first thing I will say is if you are adopting a dog with bite history, tread carefully in the beginning. You don’t know the dog very well yet and a bite can happen at anytime. Sometimes the dog will give you enough warning so you have time to back off but this is not always the case. Don’t get complacent. Don’t assume just because you are nice to the dog that the dog is going to be nice to you.

The second thing is to make a mental list of all his triggers and, as much as possible, try to sidestep them during the early days (I realize some are not as easy to avoid as others). Most of the time the biting is not the problem but a symptom of a deeper problem.

Most dogs bite out of insecurity, some bite because they lack impulse control, some bite because they have gotten away with biting for so long that they have lost all bite inhibition (Ralphie is a textbook example of the latter).

My advise is when possible, give the dog some time to settle down first and, who knows, the biting might just improve on itself own (again Ralphie is a good example of that). A lot of biting comes from a place of discomfort - whether it be psychological or physical. You can’t deal with the biting until you first address the discomfort. And as always, don’t be afraid to ask for help from a knowledgeable dog trainer if it gets to be too much at any point*
