This 34 pound, 1 to 2 year old French Bulldog mix is new to the shelter and already stealing hearts left and right. She’s got the cutest little snort, the wiggliest body, and a personality that somehow manages to be both sweet and slightly dramatic at the same time.

Penelope is a happy girl who loves attention and will happily scoot her way right into your personal space for pets. She’s got a big smile, expressive eyes, and just enough sass to keep you entertained.

If you’re looking for a compact, lovable sidekick with main character energy, Penelope is ready for her forever home. Come meet her and see why we’re all obsessed. 💕

*Reminder* We are currently facilitating adoptions through appointment only. If you arrive at the shelter without an appointment to meet a dog, we may not be able to assist you.

Please call the shelter (516-869-6311) during working hours (Mon. to Fri. 9AM-4PM; Sat. 10AM-4PM) for more information about this dog, the adoption process at the shelter, and to confirm availability. Here are some Happy Tails to brighten this muggy day- congratulations to Brutus, Tamale, Lilo, Bambi, and Venus who have all found their "furever" families! (Yes, we know we shared Venus's adoption already, but we're so excited we had to announce it twice!)

Meet Maya, a 11-year-old pit bull with a heart full of love and a second chance still waiting for her. Despite spending much of her life outside and overlooked, Maya remains a happy, affectionate girl who is ready to be someone's best friend.

Maya enjoys walks, playing tug-of-war, and soaking up all the attention she can get. She knows how to sit, takes treats gently, comes when called, and absolutely loves pets and cuddles. When she's not spending time with her people, Maya loves nothing more than chewing on her favorite toy, laying in the sun, and rolling in the grass.

She can be a little goofy and still needs some help polishing her manners, but her enthusiasm for life is impossible not to love. Maya would do best with an experienced owner who can continue guiding her and helping her thrive.

After everything she's been through, Maya deserves a soft place to land. Could that be with you?

(Thank you so much to our volunteer Mia for this beautiful drawing of one of our longest residents!!

Rain has a lot of people to thank!

Thanks to generous donations to the Shelter Connections Mend-a-Paw Program, Rain was able to receive a much-needed soft palate surgery. While this procedure is more commonly seen in French Bulldogs, Rain was having increasing difficulty breathing, and with summer heat and humidity on the way, we knew she needed help. (Be sure to check out the before video of her trying to bark!)

While we'll miss her adorable snorts and snuffles, we're thrilled to report that Rain is breathing much more comfortably and is ready to enjoy the summer ahead.

As part of her recovery, Rain spent time in a foster home with one of our staff members, who reports that she was a wonderful houseguest and settled beautifully into home life.

Rain is 3½ years old, weighs 82 pounds, and is still looking for her forever family. She would like to be the only dog in the home, but she has plenty of love, personality, and snorts-to-spare to make up for it!

If you are interested in meeting Rain, please call us at (516)869-6311.

Daisy is 3 years old, 48 pounds, and full of personality. This fun sized girl has become a total favorite with our staff and volunteers, and it’s easy to see why. She’s silly, spunky, loves her people, and has never once turned down a snack offered by her many admirers here at the shelter. Daisy is currently enjoying her “a little extra fluffy” era and fully supports being spoiled.

We learned she’s almost half Chow Chow, which explains her loyal and devoted personality. Daisy is the kind of dog who picks her people carefully, but once she loves you, she’s your biggest fan forever.

After spending so much time at the shelter, Daisy has definitely earned the right to be a little picky. She would do best as the only dog in an adult only home where she can soak up all the love, attention, treats, and couch space for herself.

She loves attention, adventures, and hanging out with her favorite humans. Daisy has so much love, joy, and personality packed into her adorable chunky little self, and we know there’s a home out there that’s going to absolutely adore her.

Come meet Daisy and see why everyone here is obsessed with her.

Please call the shelter (516-869-6311) during working hours (Mon. to Fri. 9AM-4PM; Sat. 10AM-4PM) for more information about this dog, the adoption process at the shelter, and to confirm availability. Some dogs truly blossom once they leave the shelter, and Sherri-Moon is the perfect example of that.

Her amazing foster family made the drive from Brooklyn multiple times to help her decompress, settle in, and learn how to just be a dog again. Outside of the shelter environment, Sherri has shown everyone how sweet, loving, and special she really is.

She’s come so far, but Sherri-Moon is still looking for her forever home. As much as she loves her shelter friends and foster family, she deserves a family of her very own.

Watching her thrive has been so special, now we just need the perfect home to see how wonderful she truly is.
