Samuel is one of our youngest volunteers. He comes with his family every week to help care for the animals. Recently, he had a lemonade stand and raised $58 for the sanctuary! Thank you so much Samuel! Your kindness is very much appreciated!

When it rains, it pours... and ironically, Willow loved the rain because she loved a good mud bath. Our already broken hearts were torn yet again yesterday when our old friend Willow passed away in her sleep. 

She came to the sanctuary in 2019 along with Jack (donkey) and Joey (pony) from a hobby farm/hoarding situation where they were all being neglected. Willow wasn't always the most social with strangers, but was definitely the most vocal. Her pen-mate Wilma put up with a lot of her sass, but had so much love for her in the end. While we wish she was never in a bad situation in the first place, we're glad we could give her peace, love and safety for the last 5 years of her life.

Sometimes the bigger the animal, the bigger the injury, the bigger the heartbreak. At some point during the night on Saturday, Vlad splayed his back leg and broke his femor. When we found him in the morning, he lost all feeling in his hind end. He was down for hours, and we had to make the devastating decision to let him go peacefully.

Vlad came to the sanctuary as a calf in 2019. Him and his brothers changed the hearts and minds of so many sanctuary visitors over the years. There's nothing like a cow lick to remind someone that they are sentient beings full of personality. Ornery, dog-like, and always ready for a snack, we'll surely miss the big guy. RIP Vlad ♥️

Happy 20th, yes we said TWENTIETH, birthday to the most photogenic alpaca, Silhouette! Socially shy, but never camera shy, Silly has defied expectations and doesn't plan on retiring from her modeling career any time soon.
