(217)

NO KILL RESCUE
KAR animals are kept in our care from intake until adoption. For the majority of our animals that time is spent within one home, where the animal can get accustomed to family life. Animals are only euthanized in cases of severe illness or aggression. HOUSING
The majority of KAR animals are placed with foster families. These families are KAR volunteers who generously open their homes

to animals in need. The animals are provided with a caring, nurturing atmosphere to facilitate their well-being. While in foster care, we gain an understanding of the animal's needs and their personality traits. Foster homes work with Adoption Counselors to match the animals with suitable permanent families. Meet Spot and Dot, mischievous mates and cuddly companions!

These two white and gray adoptable brothers are buckets of fun and endless entertainment...well, at least until it's time for a catnap to recharge. Once playtime is over, they transform into two ultimate cuddle buddies, content to snuggle up and purr in your lap!

Although they would LOVE to go to the same home so they can stay together furrever, they can be adopted separately. However, they both will need to have another kitten or a compatible cat in the home to play with!

They lived with dogs in their first foster home, and they're both confident kitties who are expected to do well with kids.

If Spot and Dot are adopted together, the adoption fee for the second kitten is reduced. Adoption fees help cover the expenses of all vet care provided by Kalamazoo Animal Rescue, including spay/neuter, microchip, vaccines, and deworming.

If you're interested in adopting one or both of these cuties, please submit an application on our website today!

Help Us Give Animals the Dental Care They Desperately Need!

Did you know that dental health is just as important for animals as it is for humans? Many of our rescued animals are suffering from severe dental issues that cause them immense pain and can lead to serious health problems if left untreated.

At Kalamazoo Animal Rescue, we're committed to giving every animal a second chance at a healthy, happy life. Right now, we urgently need your help to fund critical dental surgeries for our furry friends, like Romeo, who is suffering from Stomatitis.

Why Dental Procedures Are Crucial:

Untreated dental issues can lead to infections, heart problems, and chronic pain.
Dental care can significantly improve an animal's quality of life and increase their chances of finding a forever home.
🚨 Urgent Situation:
We have only raised $31 towards our goal of $4,000. We need your help to close this gap and provide the essential dental care our animals desperately need.

🌟 How You Can Help:

Donate: Every dollar makes a difference!
Share: Spread the word by sharing this post with your friends and family.
Together, we can ensure every animal gets the care they deserve. Thank you for your kindness and generosity! 🐶🐱❤️

08/05/2024

Gretel came to KAR as a stray this past winter. Not only was she found wandering in and out of traffic, looking for help, but she also had suffered severe blows to her head, resulting in damage to her face, teeth, and nasal passages.

Needless to say, Gretel has had a terrible start to life, but thankfully that all changed when she came to KAR. Her physical wounds have healed, and her heart, like most dogs, is so much bigger than humans deserve. She loves everyone and assumes everyone loves her, too. Perhaps it's her past that's responsible for her exuberance. Whatever the case, Gretel wakes up ready to seize the day.

Gretel is a special dog who needs a special person. While she will make you laugh with her antics every day, she can become easily overstimulated and go into high gear. So, she needs a patient person who can provide a predictable routine and offer boundaries.

Here are some things Gretel needs in her forever home:

Dogs: Gretel loves other dogs, but she may do best as an only dog.
Crate: Gretel's crate is sometimes the only place where she understands it's time to relax and decompress. Willingness to use a crate with Gretel is important.
Activity: Gretel is extremely active and is mentally and physically busy all the time. Therefore, her people will be seeking a player, a goofball, an entertainer; not a cuddler or couch potato.
Training: Gretel is very smart. She is excellent at the commands she knows (sit, stay, down, and leash walking) and is eager to please (especially when treats are involved!). She would do well in a home that devotes time to training every day.

If you're looking for a pal who loves splashing around in kiddie pools and playing chase with the garden hose, Gretel may be the fur friend for you! Learn more about Gretel or apply to adopt her at her adoptable pet page!

Keeping your cats indoors is crucial for their safety and well-being. Outdoor cats face numerous dangers, including traffic, predators, exposure to diseases, and exposure to human inflicted harm.

Recently, we had a heartbreaking reminder of these risks.

Cindy, a sweet cat adopted from Kalamazoo Animal Rescue, was found in critical condition outside. She was taken by a good samaritan to Animal Control, where they scanned her microchip and traced her to an owner as well as back to us.
Voicemails were left for her adopted family, but the calls were never returned.

So, we took Cindy in again in an attempt to save her life.
But despite improving slightly after 36 hours of intensive treatment, Cindy began to decline again. We ran labs and it was determined that she had likely been poisoned. To relieve her suffering, Cindy was humanely euthanized.

This tragic story underscores the importance of keeping your cats indoors. But let this also serve as a reminder:
If you EVER find yourself unable to care for an animal adopted through us- Kalamazoo Animal Rescue is dedicated to our animals and will ALWAYS take them back if contacted.

So please, just contact us.. Don't let them suffer the way Cindy did and please, keep your cats inside unless supervised, in a catio or on a harness.

Rest peacefully our sweet girl 💔

Does your cat need a kitten? These are four signs the answer might be yes!

1. Excessive meowing. While there are a lot of possible causes for this, one of them is boredom! If your cat is constantly screaming for your attention but there's no medical cause, they may be telling you that they want a friend.

2. Following you everywhere. If you have a solo cat who never leaves your side, a kitten can help keep them company when you have to leave the house...or when you just want a few precious moments to yourself!

3. Destructive behavior. When cats get bored, they find ways to entertain themselves. Pushing fragile things off of the counter is fun, but a kitten is even better!

4. Begging to play constantly. This is a big one! Young cats have lots of energy, and some cats are high energy for life. If you already spend hours a day playing with your cat, and it's still not enough, a kitten friend might be just what they need!

Jinxy and Juniper are looking for their new family!

These two 1-year-old lovebugs are no strangers to a busy household. They get along well with dogs, cats, and kids, and would be a great addition to a family!

Their foster says they don’t “show well” at adoption events – but at home they’re sweet, snuggly, and playful. If you often feel like your home has the hustle and bustle of a zoo, these two might be a great fit!

🐾 We have cats and kittens of all ages and personalities. Submit a general adoption application and we’ll help you find your purrfect match, or come visit us in-person during walk-in hours!

Address: 4669 Executive Dr, Portage, MI 49002
Walk-in hours: 11 AM - 7 PM, Mondays and Fridays

We will also be open to the public from 10 AM - 2 PM this upcoming Saturday, 7/27, for Kitten-Palooza. Come see us and enjoy an ice cream sundae!

CAN AND BOTTLE FUNDRAISER

Please note: While we are super appreciative of returnable donations being dropped off, the owners of the unit have informed us that it has become a regular issue of people coming onto the property and stealing the bags of cans that have been left outside our unit outside of our designated drop off times.
We don't want this to continue to be a problem and jeopardize us being able to utilize the unit going forward. So we do have to please request that bottle donations not be left when we are not there. If you cannot make it to a drop of day please message us to arrange a time that works for you and we will do our best to accommodate it.

One of our largest ongoing fundraisers, Returnable cans and bottles- wouldn’t be possible without YOU!
Every month, your donations help us purchase food and supplies for the animals in our care, and help provide veterinary care for those animals in need.
All those 10 cent returnables add up in a BIG way!

Interested in helping?

Donations are accepted every Wednesday and Saturday.

Drop off details are in the graphic.

We have kittens!

First up on our docket of adoptable and adorable kittens is the floral litter! This 5-pack of classic black-and-white kittens is cute, cuddly, and ready to join your family.

From their foster: "They are very sweet social kittens who love to play and snuggle. They're good with my small dog and two adult cats."

They haven't been "kid tested" just yet. However, our fosters conduct "meet-and-greet" with potential adopters to make sure they do well before they go home with you, so don't let that hold you back!

Help Us Save Whiskers, Tallulah, Tony, Avery, and Matcha

Dear friends,

We are very close to our $2,000 goal to fund essential eye surgeries for five precious kittens. Thanks to your support, we’ve raised $1,577 so far. We need just $423 more.

Why These Surgeries Are Crucial:
Whiskers, Tallulah, Tony, Avery, and Matcha suffer from severe eye infections. Removing their infected eyes once they are old and strong enough is vital to prevent further pain and serious health issues.

Meet Our Brave Kittens:

Whiskers: Playful and cuddly boy who loves attention.
Tallulah: Sweet, calm girl with a gentle spirit.
Tony: Playful goofball who brings joy to everyone.
Avery: Cuddle bug who loves his food.
Matcha: Calm lover who enjoys a quiet environment.
How You Can Help:
Your donation, no matter the amount, will bring us closer to our goal. Every dollar counts.

Please donate ❤️

Please share this post with friends and family.

Your support means the world to these kittens and to us. Let’s make this miracle happen!
