With fall upon us #PermaPOGs, it’s time to play one of our favorite games, Hops, Not Hops! Play along below!
If we had a dollar for every time a entity reached out wanting to create a course to sell, we could retire. Why don’t we?
Simple, #PermaPOGs.
Knowledge should be free. Knowledge should be respected. Anything you want to know about veterans and permaculture can be found for free on either the internet, this feed, or your local public library.
Why free?
1. We didn't pay for the information we learned.
2. Any cost is a barrier, and when it comes to growing food we would never want to bar anyone from taking that step.
3. Despite rumors, we are human and are always learning ourselves (Hence Permanent Personas Organizing & Growing, #PermaPOGs :)
It is humbling to be on the same level as everyone else.
4. Passion, people, and planet over profit.
If profit is the motive we are more likely to create a structure that benefits us more than you to keep you reliant on our mode of profit. (sips tea.)
Butterflies get most of the energy and moisture they need from plant nectar.
Male butterflies need minerals, salt, and amino acids for reproduction, #PermaPOGs.
They can get these nutrients from moist soil, where water has evaporated leaving minerals near the surface
The Mason Bee’s are alive and well at Rouge Permaculture’s newest collaboration at #HillHaven, in beautiful Tenino, WA.
Few strategies for keeping our environment healthy are as interesting, simple and fun as raising mason bees, tiny insects that are gaining popularity with gardeners and farmers alike.
What’s more, encouraging wild mason bees to your slice of earth – no matter how small or urban – could help counter negative effects of declining honey bee colonies.
Some experts even believe that continuing to build up wild bee populations, and managing them to work more extensively as orchard or field pollinators, could be an important step in ensuring that some of our most nutritious foods, like almonds, melons, and blueberries, continue to be readily available, high in quality, and affordable.

We are learning so much this year, #PermaPOGs.
Today's fun fact is that the USPS does not like sunflower seeds that aren't sent parcel post. (Sorry Rachel R. and Gary, your seeds will be there soon, they took a detour!)
But here at Rogue Permaculture we are not afraid to apply self-regulation & accept feedback.
We have decided to keep shipping our Seeds of Solidarity but this time we are offering the Seeds of Gratitude Trifecta with our remaining stock of Giant Golden Amaranth, Hungarian Breadseed Poppy, and our darling Cha Cha Cha Chia seeds!
For 15 dollars you will get a 100 seeds of all three, more if you like and follow our page, and a bonus seed pack that is much flatter that will fill the pollinator spot of Sunflowers. 100% of the proceeds will go to support the direct action, solidarity, and mutual aid projects for the progressive permaculture veterans of Rogue Permaculture.

#Mangroves are a small, coastal tree species that occur worldwide in the tropics and subtropics, and are particularly proficient at absorbing carbon and storing it in their extensive root systems underground, #PermaPOG's.
Carbon stored in mangrove forests is considered blue carbon, because it is stored on the coast. In addition to their excellent carbon sequestration abilities, mangroves provide excellent flood and storm protection to the coastal area itself.
Our mangrove restoration efforts in Madagascar support planting locations on parcels of coastal land to the North West of the island, near Mahajanga.
Whilst the combined restoration area is wider, to date we have funded mangrove planting spanning an area of around 600 hectares of this degraded coastal region – and as each small pocket of land is planted, our community’s funding is directed to support further planting, further along the coast.
Ecologi’s community has supported mangrove planting in this part of Madagascar ever since our founding in August 2020, and we estimate that during the full project period our community will have helped fund the planting of 13 million mangrove trees here.

Woodchips can be a great mulch resource which can add nutrients to your soil, provide moisture retention for your plants and suppress weeds.
Since there are many sources like this for woodchips you may well be able to find them in your area. If you do not, remember that there are many other ways of making mulch, #PermaPOG’s!
Meanwhile, at the #PermaPOG Permablitz in the Anarchist Jurisdiction of Portland, Oregon...
Not that it’s surprising, but it is different to be running a company with female founders instead of males ones, #PermaPOG's.
Men are taken more seriously in business, while it’s often assumed women are “just working a side hustle.” Male founded companies receive funding after their first round nearly 35% of the time.
For female founders, it’s only 2% of the time. We think it has something to do with who is in the room making decisions as to how products are valued.
In honor of International Women’s Day 2021, we thought we’d pay tribute to just a couple of the amazing permaculture women we know. Some of them are well known, and some of them are not. But they are all fabulous, and they’re the tip of the iceberg.
Let’s support and celebrate the powerful work of women. While finding small, new companies is harder than buying the same products you’ve always purchased it can make a difference. Seek them out. If you find a great company tell your friends.
Tell us too!
This weekend we’ll be sharing them on our channels. Let’s work together to share the work women-owned businesses/services are doing to make the world a better place!
