I spent some time today thinking about how to make up for the lack of starts, and realized I could focus on propagating some of the plants around me. Figs are super easy, and I have permission to harvest cuttings from some lilacs. I also have a healthy tree collard so maybe if I can get my act together there will be some useful or beautiful perennials for you this year. ❤️ 🎥 screenshot from Korean Gardener on Tiktok. This method relies on recycling empty water bottles, and using skinny plastic bags.

I am very behind on starts for the stand. I overextended myself (for a very good reason and would do it all again) and now my body is paying me back with interest. I am going to hang a sign in the stand encouraging everyone to use it for sharing with each other in the meantime while I recover and process my grief. I will be around and hopefully we get a break in the heat so I can get some things going.

These are my favorite spring events in Oregon! Wholesome Fun! Many hands for Many weeks have been gathering special scion from all over the state to share with you all... The top notch seed collection coming on tour too. This year there is an intent to ask each community to now steward the seeds that are given by growing out the seed shared here.
(In future, you can always find this poster attached to our pinned post, in the Agrarian Sharing Network FB group; or on our website at agrariansharing.net.)

A red bag of produce to share with mom today. Pictured: Gigantic Kohlrabi, cucumbers, heirloom tomatoes, marigolds, onions and cucumbers. We have been able to share small bounties of veg with the community here and there. Getting the hang of it a little bit! Yesterday it was fun to bring kohlrabi, peppers, onions, collared greens, tomatoes and cucumbers to for Harvest Gathering. People brought their harvests and preserves to swap or cook up for the potluck. So cool to see what the community can do and what might grow into other things.

Yesterday was spent “beaning all the trays” I could find in the greenhouse. Usually you would plant these in the ground but I’m nervous about our soil quality and all the pests so I’m going to try grow some robust starts and see if that helps them survive.

It’s time to get busy over here.

Kicked the goats out of the garden. Alin has gone over it at least three times with the motorized rototiller and we can’t break through the lower layer of perfect clay. We bought some yards of three way compost mix and I’m using that to mix with the top layer of soil we were able to churn up.

Got most of the brassica starts that were grown from seed in the greenhouse into the ground. Collards, Cabbage, and Broccoli. Planted gigantic Marigolds around the edges.

Plotting to install lots of trellises and tunnels this year because we have plans for beans and gourds if all goes well.

Our radish crop is ready for harvest but unseasonable times means extra pest pressure so the earwigs and slugs took bites out of every single one. Extra snackies for the goats right? Except they only want the greens!

First harvest of herbs from the little potager garden I’m working on. Planted these last year and they all survived so now it’s time to trim them back for a bushier habit. We have Lemon Thyme, Tricolor Sage, Sweet Marjoram, Italian Oregano and a little bit of Tarragon. The Wild Thyme I grew from seed is still a little small for sharing so I’m going to give it more…time. ☺️

Welcome to the farm, beautiful little doeling!

Bijoux did a wonderful job. She was due today and more vocal than usual, trying to let us know it was close to her time. We came out and noticed she was going in and out of the barn. We had just a little time to get her on the stand for some energy boosting treats and a little bikini area trim real quick and then put her in the kidding pen. As soon as we closed the gate she flopped onto her side and got down to business!

She’s such a sweetheart, she wanted lots of petting and reassurance as she pushed. As soon as the baby arrived she was all about cleaning her off and making sure she was ok. She’s an excellent mama.
