It's been awhile since I've posted anything chicken related. We have eliminated our show brahmas and purged our mixed chicks.
The focus is on the remaining 30 birds and we might offera few PAIRS soon.
Pairs are 1 male and 1 female and it's nonnegotiable.
Pairs will be $100

As I'm walking through the poultry show and talking to families, I am so proud of these kids that have really made poultry an actual project and they breed, raise and condition their own birds. I wholeheartedly believe these kids are the winners.
Buying a show bird to exhibit looks good but the project aspect just isn't there. Who really wins if that birds takes the blue? The breeder, that's who.
Don't get me wrong, I like to see our birds bring home the blues in all the surrounding Counties but that doesn't compare to doing it yourself.

Last night was an unexpected miracle.
Our birds have been on the back burner all summer due to other priorities. We mysteriously lost our #1 show pullet and absolute favorite girl without a trace immediately after County fair. This left us feeling very defeated immediately so the bare minimum amount of attention has been paid towards the birds ever since.
Fast forward to Aubree penning birds for State fair last night (it doesn't get anymore last minute than this) and she pulls out this beautiful splash cockerel that has the perfect shape to his body, loads and loads of shredded feathers everywhere. Move on to his feet and his toes are perfectly spaced. His comb is small and perfectly walnut like, his earlobes are shiny turquoise. Then I fan his wings out and they are straight, full and 110% perfect in every way. It was like someone snuck this perfect splash boy into our coop without telling us but he has our band around his leg. He was one of our January hatchlings that was touch and go for a couple months. He was picked on and looked like a hot mess so we ignored him. This year might just be the year of the cockerel, God willing. He is definitely a sight to see and a reminder that we do take our breedings seriously. This was the bit of hope that we both needed and it came at the perfect time.
*Pictures to come after State Fair.

Future plans...

There will not be an open house this fall. We have not had our bird varieties penned separately this summer therefore we won't have the quality I expect/demand by fall.

We will start hatching in December.
I'm not shipping this year. All sales will be cash in hand or PayPal FF.
We will continue with the same varieties, blue, black, splash, white and paint.
Bearded silkie chicks are $25 each or 5 for $100
NN chicks are $35 each
We are part of the NPIP program and are AI & Mareks clean. I do not advertise as being disease free because we do travel and show our birds on occasion so there is a risk for Mycoplasma (CRD) from stress.
We do not have a sales list but I will advertise as soon as hatchling become available.

We are planning on hatching starting in December and going through March.

Silkie chicks $25 each or 5 for $100
Eggs $100 dozen picked up
Brahma chicks $25 each 5 for $100
Eggs $75 dozen picked up

Hatching will be very limited this year. I am not filling any contract so there is no need for hundreds of chicks. Our personal overflow will be what's available.
We still breed white, black, paint, splash and blue silkies.

If your wondering why you haven't seen much from me it's because Indiana silkies and a few other local pages refuse to post anything from me or do it in a timely manner. The last few posts that were accepted, the birds were gone weeks prior to the admins publishing it, sometimes months.

Now that we are down several dozen birds, the new focus is on top quality feed and additives for the "show stock".
My husband bought me a pelletizer machine so I'm going to take our standard ground show feed and add several beneficial herbs to the mix. Fingers crossed that we see results.
