!!UPDATE!!
Our tortoise friend is in fact a Texas Tortoise. We kept it overnight to ensure it was healthy enough for release and since it is it has been released near the area where it was captured. Just as a reminder, the Texas Tortoise is native wildlife and is a protected nongame animal. This means that it is illegal for a person to take and/or keep.
**Sent to Rescue**
A rescue has committed to tagging mom and pups if there’s a committed foster for them. The rescue will pay for all medical costs and provide supplies so there is no out-of-pocket expense for the foster. If you're interested in fostering, Please contact Portland Texas Animal Care Services at 361-777-4444.
We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to all the incredible animal rescues and the dedicated fosters who have worked alongside them to support our shelter this year in saving the lives of 161 animals. Your unwavering dedication, tireless networking, and the countless hours of work filled with tears, sweat, and immense love have been nothing short of inspiring. The selflessness of the fosters opening their hearts and homes to these animals has made all the difference. Without your commitment and compassion, none of this would have been possible. We are deeply thankful for your partnership, and we know that together, we’ve made a real impact in the lives of these animals. From the bottom of our hearts here at Portland Texas Animal Care Services , thank you for everything you do. Here are just a few Rescues we like to Thank, sorry if we missed anyone.

Apologies for the late update! The friendly adoption competition between the Police Department and the Fire Department has a winner. Drum roll, please... The Police Department takes the crown by just one adoption! The Fire Department was hot on their heels with 9 adoptions, but the Police Department edged them out with 10. We did have one return out of the 20 total adoptions, but it's still a big win for all our furry friends. Thank you, City of Portland Police Department and Portland, Texas Fire Department , for your participation!
Sorry we could not include all the adoption pictures in the video it passed the limit amount.
