Don't fear, but HOWL-oween is near and we're here to help keep your pets safe! Avoid the scary emergency veterinary visit this holiday by checking this graphic and sharing it with other pet owners. Always remember to watch your pets in case they get into any human treats 👻

It's National ! Taking a stroll with your canine friend has many benefits for both of you, but please help keep people and other animals safe by following these Washington County requirements while out and about:

➡ Keep your dog on a leash seven feet or shorter when not in a designated off-leash area.

Your dog may be friendly, but people may be uncomfortable with a loose dog in their space. Additionally, some leashed dogs are reactive to unleashed dogs approaching them.

➡ Clean up after your pet.

Pet waste is unpleasant to step in and can contain parasites or bacteria that can be harmful to both animals and people. Be sure to scoop that poop and put it in a garbage can. Pet waste should never be tossed into a storm drain, recycling bin, or compost pile that is not specifically set up for animal waste.

Thank you for being a kind and responsible dog owner while celebrating National Walk Your Dog Week!

Showing your child how to handle the family cat will keep them both safe. Explain that cats do not feel safe when “big people” suddenly pick them up. If age-appropriate, show them the proper way to pick up and hold your cat with their arm under the cat’s bottom. Explain that this should only be done when you are there to supervise. It's National Dog Day, a great day to celebrate our canine companions who give us so much love and friendship!

Today is National Take Your Cat to the Vet Day! Today is a great day to make an appointment for your cat to have a preventive health exam with your veterinarian.

83% of cats visit the veterinarian before their 1st birthday, but over 50% don’t return until they become sick or are in pain.

Your veterinarian is trained to detect subtle signs of illness and disease. Catching these signs early is the best way to help your cat live a long, healthy life. Your veterinarian can also advise you on any questions you may have specific to your cat. It is important that your cat visits the veterinary practice yearly for their checkup, and even more often for senior cats.

"But my dog never goes outside!" Seriously, your dog can't hide from those pesky mosquitos that transmit heartworm disease. Protect them 12 months a year!

On , we're sharing a few important reminders on the importance of microchips - such as:

➡ 1 in 3 family pets will get lost
➡ Microchipped dogs are more than twice as likely to be returned to their owners and microchipped cats are more than 20 times as likely to be returned to their owners

And remember - while microchips greatly increase the chances that pets will be reunited with their families if they are lost or stolen…a microchip only works if its registration information is accurate.

Visit avma.org/CheckTheChip to learn more.

Is your pet microchipped? Is the chip registered?
Microchips need to be registered with a microchip company with your contact information. If we microchipped your pet, we likely registered it for you. If your pet came from a rescue or shelter, they might have done it for you too. If you aren't sure, ask us how to check!

It's Check the Chip Day! Microchips are an invaluable tool in helping reunite lost pets with their families. Far too often, however, veterinarians and shelters are unable to reunite lost pets with their owners due to missing, outdated or inaccurate information in the registration database for those pets' chips. So, please take a few minutes today to double-check or update your registration information for your pet's microchip!
