I guess you can teach an old dog (me) new tricks! I ran my first junior hunt test this afternoon with Amelia as the bye dog… she had a couple beautiful points!😀

The girls had fun this morning …. Dad is judging today…. But Kitty had a blast running as a bye dog in juniors and Amelia got to be the pointing dog on a senior call back for honoring…. They both did great and had a blast!

The rollicking Irish Red and White Setter is an athletic medium-sized bird dog bred primarily for hunting. Fun-loving, friendly, and high-spirited, they are a bit shorter and stockier than their cousin the Irish Setter.

The Irish Red & White setter has been a distinct breed since at least 1775. While popular during the 1800s, the Irish Red & White was almost extinct by 1900. It was then revived during the 1920s by a small group of dedicated breeders. Compared to it’s more popular cousin the Irish (Red) Setter, the Red & White Setter is heavier in body with a broader head. The Red & White Setter is athletic and intelligent, and are among the most devoted and affectionate of the versatile breeds; they make excellent family and hunting companions. The Irish Red & White Setter has the stamina and intensity to hunt all day, with the natural ability to adjust to different terrain conditions. They do best in active families that provide sufficient outlets for their high energy level.

Currently NAVHDA recognizes 30 different breeds of pointing dogs. While each breed differs somewhat with respect to their physical characteristics, they all possess the versatility required to locate, point, and retrieve upland game, find and retrieve wounded waterfowl, and serve as well-mannered companions.
