Ever wanted to work for VSCP? Now is your chance! The Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT) is responsible for providing care for patients based on veterinary direction. CVTs assist in examinations and diagnostic procedures, obtain and process laboratory samples, take x-rays, assist in all aspects of anesthesia and surgery, anesthetic monitoring, and post-op patient monitoring. CVTs are also responsible for interacting with clients, referring veterinary hospitals, and maintaining medical records.
Responsibilities
Restraining patients keeping low stress handling in mind. Take vital signs
Phlebotomy; able to collect samples and perform subjective and non-subjective lab work
Calculate and administer medication as directed by a veterinarian (PO, IV, SC, IM)
Able to place intravenous catheters, urinary catheters, central venous lines
Perform bandaging, suturing and suture removal as directed
Anticipate DVM needs and prepares supplies for procedures
Able to scrub in and act as a sterile assistant in surgery
Able to induce anesthesia and intubate. Able to monitor anesthesia using multi-parameter monitoring equipment
Able to set up the surgery suite as needed for soft tissue and orthopedic surgeries
Maintain a safe, secure, healthy and humane environment by cleaning, sterilizing and wrapping instruments, disinfecting surgery suites and patient cages/kennels, storing sterile supplies, verifying shelf life, following standards and procedures
Maintain pet comfort pre and post-op by measuring vital signs and alerting the veterinarian of any changes. Closely observe animals for any change in condition.
Maintain pet records by documenting conditions, reactions and changes
Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities

Must be able to stand, bend, reach constantly for long periods at a time. Must be able to work on the floor.
Must be able to work long or irregular hours under pressure.
Qualifications and skills
Certified/Licensed/Registered Veterinary Technician; eligible for licensure in Oregon
Knowledge of animal behavior and husbandry
Documentation skills, analytical skills, clinical skills
Use of medical technologies
Ability to learn and utilize veterinary software programs
Attention to detail, patience and strong verbal communication skills
