Sauvie Island Kennels We offer deluxe dog and cat boarding facilities for all breeds, large and small. Your dog is given personal loving attention through out its stay.

All dogs are boarded in a beautiful country atmosphere, shaded by trees in the summer, with a landscaped courtyard view. Reservations are required. We also require that your dog be current on the following vaccines: distemper, hepatitis, lepto, parinfluenza, parvovirus, corona, bordetella and rabies. Proof must be submitted at the time of boarding. We have Dr. Peter Davis of St. John's Veterinary

Clinic on call for our kennel if any problems should arise. Pointing Dog Training (minimum age is 10 months old, minimum of three months training to be scheduled with trainer): We have developed a training program for pointing dogs which we have found highly successful to the upland hunter. In our hunting dog program, your dog stays at the kennel for a minimum of two months. We teach your dog to work for you, and we dedicate many hours of our training to you in our training sessions. Your dog will be exposed to a variety of game birds, introduced to the gun in a positive manner, and be pointing steady to wing. Our goal is to have you handle your dog with confidence, understand his training and enjoy yourself! It's fun to hunt with a trained bird dog! We limit the size of our training classes, so please reserve in advance for either of our training programs. Call or email us for more information or a kennel tour. Obedience Training: Our all breed obedience program is for one month. We teach your dog the basics of good manners. The basic commands include sit, stay, down, come, heel and no. Our program includes several private lessons with the owners to learn and practice the technique of handling their dog. Minimum age of 8 months. Please schedule one month with trainer.

Canine Good Citizen (CGC) is a 10 skill test teaching dogs good manners and responsible ownership to owners. It is an AKC certification that we will evaluate you and your dog for at the end of our program. Open to all breeds and all ages.

-Total upfront cost for 5 group training sessions and evaluation is $250
-Training session will be about an hour long
-One session a week permitted (5 total)

This is a great opportunity for socialization and to practice manners outside of the house!

We have open spots in our November Obedience Training class!

Our all breed obedience program is offered each month. We teach your dog the basics of good manners. The commands include sit, stay, down, come, heel and no, both on and off lead. While in training, your dog will board with us for a full 30 days while working with our experienced training staff. Training includes proper acclimation to the e-collar for a positive off-lead training experience.

Included in our board and train program are several private lessons for you and your family. We believe it’s not only important to train your dog but to also train you to effectively communicate with your dog. Sending your dog through obedience training is an investment in their future and yours! A well mannered dog is a pleasure to go through life with.

Our Obedience program is $1500 and is all inclusive with boarding, training, lessons, bath and nail trim. Minimum age is 8 months old. Dogs do not need to be spayed or neutered.
