Known to peninsular Thailand and Malaysia, these long-bodied, pointy-nosed Loaches are ideal for rocky river setups with some flow. Nemacheilus masyae is peaceful, gregarious, beautiful, and an easy-to-feed omnivore. Who wouldn’t be love-struck?

Hailing from swampy areas of the Paraguay River basin in South America, the lovely Reed Tetra (π»π‘¦π‘β„Žπ‘’π‘ π‘ π‘œπ‘π‘Ÿπ‘¦π‘π‘œπ‘› π‘’π‘™π‘Žπ‘β„Žπ‘¦π‘ ) is this Tuesday’s highlight!

This small Characin will reach a maximum of about one inch and should be kept in groups of at least 6 in no smaller than 15-gallons. In their natural habitat, they are known to school with other similar tetras (most of which are nearly indistinguishable from 𝐻. π‘’π‘™π‘Žπ‘β„Žπ‘¦π‘  based on size and coloration!). This fish would be perfect in a small community tank with other similarly sized characins and Corys such as πΆπ‘œπ‘Ÿπ‘¦π‘‘π‘œπ‘Ÿπ‘Žπ‘  π‘π‘¦π‘”π‘šπ‘Žπ‘’π‘’π‘  or πΆπ‘œπ‘Ÿπ‘¦π‘‘π‘œπ‘Ÿπ‘Žπ‘  β„Žπ‘Žπ‘π‘Ÿπ‘œπ‘ π‘’π‘ .

Though not much research has been done on these Tetras, we have found that best results will be achieved with a temperature between
75-81Β° F alongside a pH ranging from 6.0-7.2. They seem to happily accept variations of dried, frozen and live food and are a wonderfully lively little fish!

Who else is exasperated by the beauty of this fish?

πΏπ‘Žπ‘π‘–π‘‘π‘œπ‘β„Žπ‘Ÿπ‘œπ‘šπ‘–π‘  π‘—π‘œπ‘Žπ‘›π‘—π‘œβ„Žπ‘›π‘ π‘œπ‘›π‘Žπ‘’, more commonly referred to as β€œExasperatus”, is a gorgeous cichlid endemic to Lake Malawi in Africa. Maxing out at around 4 inches, this fish is best kept in groups of five or more or with other mbuna in at least a 50-gallon tank. As is common with most Malawis, males of this species can be aggressive towards fish with a similar appearance, but females tend to be more docile.

As juveniles, Exasperatus Cichlids will display a handsome speckling accompanied by yellow stripes, but after reaching adulthood, males will turn blue with a black horizontal line in their dorsal, a**l and ventral fins. They should be kept at a temperature of 74-82Β° F and a pH ranging from 7.5-8.5 for best results and will fare well on a high-quality flake diet supplemented with π‘†π‘π‘–π‘Ÿπ‘’π‘™π‘–π‘›π‘Ž.
