“xoxo we are all smiling this morning !
As I said, if i could hug you, I sure would.
xoxoxo”-Katrina, owner of Cricket
A referral inviting Katrina to reach out to Lost Pet Tracking Dogs after a drone attempt was unsuccessful at locating an 11 pound dog dragging a 20ft leash lost from home, was now going on day 2 missing.
Understandably so would a lost pet owner do everything possible for an immediate find, especially when the newly 3 month adopted pet went missing in a heavily wooded area.
However, this dog left from home on its own. During our phone conversation it was made that Cricket was very familiar with her in/out doggie door and the immediate 3/4 mile driveway walk often accompanied by its furry companion, so that was an invite to walk this path again in same fashion and in addition, elevate the already placed out human scent articles off the ground for an airborne luring aid in Cricket’s return home.
Also noting in phone conversation, was that Cricket had once prior bitten off a similar style leash, this was a personal confirmation that if her 20ft leash was stuck, especially given its length she again would bite it off and release herself from strain.
In admiration of Cricket’s size, and despite hearsay of little dogs falling victim of nature’s predators, may be true but however because of her size, heightened awareness, and fear of most living things, she is able to hide in smaller crevasses, shelter under porches/sheds/decks/broken open spaces under homes/etc where a drone would not be able to detect Cricket no matter what temperature emits outdoors, and where most predators are unable to reach and would otherwise move onto other more vulnerable species in their vicinity. This seclusion can be a day, two days, or even more, it’s up to Cricket to decide when she’s comfortable coming out of hiding.
Each lost pet takes on a unique characteristic and is why a thorough phone consult happens to determine the next step in a successful recovery, and is why Lost Pet Tracking Dogs felt comfortable in saying this scenario was ok to wait another day and not have an immediate response to add to an already existing emotional and costly experience.
The return home (and literally through the doggie door) and without the leash attached is exactly what happened that same evening.
Thank you Katrina for your patience, and supporting the K9 Team along with your kind words and trusting us in our experiences as we communicated over the phone to not immediately respond, we understand that was difficult.
Welcome home little Cricket! 🦗 ♥️🐾
