Meat for Cats and Dogs

Meat for Cats and Dogs (not your avergage) Pet Supply Store! At Meat, we strive to make feeding your pet a healthy and natural diet as convenient and affordable as possible.

We take pride in offering biologically appropriates for all lifestyles. We carry an array of all-natural dry and canned foods. Our main passion and focus, however, remains on the benefits of a raw food diet. We love to discuss diet and nutrition with our customers (and the curious), so stop by and say "hey"!

Today is the day! We are celebrating Meat's 20th birthday by raising money for

20% of our sales today and all the raffle ticket sales will go towards the Meat & Jane Spay & Neuter Fund that we set up with the Portland Animal Welfare Team to help their clients get access to these important procedures.

This fund will directly support in their efforts to:
❤️Prevent overpopulation and unwanted litters
❤️Improve health for pets by minimizing the risk of reproductive disease
❤️Remove barriers to housing and shelter

PAW Team supports the human-animal bond by providing the care pet owners need to keep their beloved companion healthy and by their side. Spaying and neutering are a critical part of these efforts. Unfortunately, affordable S&N services are harder than ever before to access in Portland.

This is where I hope Meat and our community can help. I have been volunteering at
drop-in vet clinics and hear that so many folks are looking for S&N help. The backlog of folks needing S&N is layered, of course. It's not as easy as just having the money to pay. They also have to find vet partners who are willing to do a lower cost voucher program, a big S&N day, or block out days for PAW Team clients.

While they work out all those details, I'll be over here raising money for them. There is a tab on their website where you can donate directly to our fund - under donate, click on the Meat & Jane Spay & Neuter fund. We'll have a QR code here at the shop, too. They will even be at our party to talk more about what great work they do for our community ❤️

Who is Jane? My sweet mother. She is my biggest fan, and I'm pretty sure that I'm one of her biggest fans as well. She has volunteered with me at the drop-in clinics and just beams with kindness talking with all the folks waiting in line. I wanted her to be part of this donation, too. She'll be at the party tonight, too. Come early, and you may catch a glimpse.

Thanks for reading... that was a lot

Excuse me, may I please have another treat?

Jojo, you can 100 more treats, you sweet boopable baby.

Working a job where you get to love on people's pets is the best. When I started this business 20 years ago, I didn't realize this was going to be part of it. What a bonus!

Giving your dogs (and the occasional kitty) treats has gotten me through the loss of friends, family members, and my own dogs. It made getting through the Covid pandemic possible. Even though y'all weren't inside, we got to spoil your pups outside. Now, we're dealing with the H5N1 virus and having hard, emotional conversations with customers daily. Seeing you and your animals is making that a wee bit easier. Thank you ❤️

Thank you for helping to make this job so great, even during hard times. I'm here to help your pets live healthier, happier lives all while using them to help mine.

With love,
Heidi Meat

Whatcha looking at kitty cat?

Ooh, some lightly cooked cat foods 😻

I'd like to welcome to our freezers, Smalls and Goodness Gracious. These are the first two lightly cooked foods for cats that we'll be bringing in.

Goodness Gracious comes in 2 formulas, rabbit & po***ck. These are human grade, 100% whole food ingredients, zero synthetic vitams or minerals, grain free, low-carb diets.

Smalls has a fairly large line of products, so we brought in their biggest sellers, which is their Smooth line. We have their chicken, turkey, pork, and chicken/ salmon in stock.

Smalls meals are made with 100% human grade proteins, added vitams, and minerals and are steamed to kill off any pathogens. Each packet is 80% meat and 200 calories, which is the perfect amount for a 10 # cat. You can buy an individual packet or a box of 6 packets.

Come see if one of these foods meets you where you're at. This is a great option for folks who are feeling uncertain about feeding a raw diet right now.

We are here to talk with you about what kind of food you're looking for and what makes you and your cats happy.

See ya soon.

Oakley and the Meat crew wish you a calm & peaceful Tuesday.

Things are heavy right now, and we want to be a space where you can take a deep breathe and possibly look across the shop to see a Golden Retriever in booties being asked questions as if they are an actual human being and may possibly open their mouth to tell their parent in English which bag of treats they prefer.

Hang in there ❤️

🚨Wild Coast Raw has issued a voluntary recall of its Boneless Chicken formulas from 2 lot numbers; #22660 & #22664, both December 2025 dates.

These lot numbers have been linked to cases involving cats that have tested positive for H5N1 bird flu virus.

If you have some of this food at home, please bring it back to the shop you purchased it from for a full refund.

We have pulled all of the WCR Boneless Chicken from our sales shelves.

At this time, I still feel safe feeding raw food to my dog. Does that mean that you should? Nope. You need to do what feels best for you and your pet. I was really hoping that the virus wouldn't find its way into raw pet food, but it seems that it most likely did.

This is all new territory for us pet owners, retailers, and raw food manufacturers, and the government isn't giving us enough information to make informed decisions. We are here to help you talk this through. We will try to help you find a food that fits into your comfort zone. And we will share information when we have it and are trying our best to keep you and your pets safe and healthy.

We have had a few customers whose cats have passed away from the H5N1 in the last week or so, and our hearts are so broken for them.
This fu***ng sucks!

🚨 PSA 🚨

H5N1 is something to take seriously.

There have been a few cats in the Portland Metro area who've passed away and tested positive for the virus.

Cats are very susceptible. Dogs seem to be affected less but can possibly transmit it. Ducks and Geese seem to be carrying the virus the most right now, so be extra cautious in areas where these birds can be found.

Things we are suggesting to keep your animals safe while we learn more about this virus:

🚨Keep cats indoors
🚨Leave your shoes outside or wipe them down with antiviral wipes, hydrogen peroxide, or ethanol alcohol (70% concentration or higher), let it set on the shoes for a minute before wiping off.
🚨Wash hands regularly & use hand sanitizer often
🚨Wipe off your dogs paws when they come inside with hydrogen peroxide or ethanol alcohol (safe if not consumed in large quantities)

🚨Reach out to your vet if your cat shows these symptoms:
Fever
Lethargy
Low appetite
Reddened or inflamed eyes
Discharge from eyes or nose
Difficult breathing
Neurological Signs - seizures, tremors, loss of coordination, blindness.

Please help keep the kitties safe!!

This weekend, Small Batch was in the house!
Well, ok, they were at the shop.

Friday night David, co-founder of Small Batch, and local sales rep, Brady, came by to chat with the Meat crew and our customers, who all seemed to be buying something while they were here. It almost seemed set up, but I promise it wasn't. We sell a lot of their products and have been SB pushers for around 14yrs (since they got distribution in the NW).

Friday night, the big seller was their lightly cooked dog food, pictured in the arms of Jennifer, standing with David. SB lightly cooked comes in easy to use 1oz sliders, which are available in 2 #, 5 #, or 10 # bulk boxes. The recipe is simple, using their raw recipe with a tiny bit of added vitamins that are cooked out during the sous vide process. They are grain free and currently available in chicken, turkey, and beef with duck coming soon.

Saturday, David brought his lovely wife and co-founder, Diana, and their daughter Ramona by to say hello since it has been a few years since I had seen them IRL. It's always great to catch up with the whole family, I feel like I'm a long-lost Vogel sister when we're together.

They are celebrating their 20th year in business this year, which is amazing! They have some new products coming this year, including their freeze-dried liver treats, which showed up on our shelves a couple of weeks ago. Their liver treats stick with their classic standard of all proteins being humanely raised with no added hormones or antibiotics. Swipe to see a couple of good dogs enjoying those treats.

A big thanks to David & Diana for starting such a great company and for making an awesome product that has lasted through this last wild 20 years! I look forward to 20 more!!

PS
Friday night David, Brady, and I went to for dinner and had a super delicious meal and impeccable service. Thanks, , for making us feel loved ❤️
If you haven't been there, please give it a try.
