🛇 Use your Manners! 🛇
The Sniff test - Stop doing that!
The sniff test - a badly engrained habit that society has been taught, without a clear understanding of what they're actually doing.

🚩When you reach out towards a dog, you are using body pressure AT them, giving them no time to assess whether you are safe & whether they require further investigation to pick up your information. You are forcing an interaction of a relationship that hasn't had time to develop. To some dogs, this is quite rude & the reason a lot of dogs snap at or bite people. This can cause alot of behavioral issues because of layered stress due to forced interactions.

🚩If they are on lead, they have no where to go if they are sensitive to spacial pressure, so can end up shutting down, shying away or snapping at your hand so you back off. This is an example of how a dog is now using pressure to turn off pressure & make you back off so they aren't so stressed.

🚩People think by offering your hand it can give the dog time to sniff to know you're friendly... they can sniff without being forced to sniff your hand.Their noses are far more superior than ours & they don't need close contact forced upon them to smell you.

🚩Some dogs might not want to know you. You have no relationship with them and that's perfectly fine. They aren't your dog so you don't need to touch them or steal pats for your own satisfaction.

🤔 If you are meeting a dog, what should you do?
⚠Ask the owner if you can interact with their dog. Not all people want strangers touching their dogs. Especially strangers who you are unlikely to see again.
⚠Stand up straight & relaxed, with your hands at your side.
⚠Ignore the dog & talk to the owner.
⚠Don't stare at the dog & don't try to force an interaction by going in for a pat. If the dog wants to know you, it will come up to you & sniff around. Usually they will move away & then come back for a second sniffathon. Some dogs will bunt your hands & wag their tails, which are good signs that you're likely an accepted new friend. Give them a few slow pats down their back (NOT THEIR HEAD) & then stop. Is the dog happy? Has it accepted your interaction? This will determine whether you can give it more pats.

🐶This is a more stress free option for dogs & a reason why in consultations we can develop a good level of trust, especially with fearful dogs & aggressive dogs, without a bunch of negative side effects from forced interactions.

"We were just contacted about a paralyzed bunny needing a safe place to land after being abandoned in a storm drain in the blizzards.

In order to help, we need some of the bunnies here to head into foster care.

We are super full.

Now sweet lovely Samuel has his furever home set up for him after he heals from surgery. I'm so excited for him! He is such a wonderful little family member for them! He has a zest for life and he is going to give them lots of love, snuggles, laughs and lots of entertainment with his fancy Parkour moves!!! Have a great time with your new family sweet guy! I love you!!

Oh Sam Sam!!! I miss you already pal!! He and his brother left with Ms. Eilan, of Avalon Microsanctuary, last night to get ready to be neutered today! SOMEONE (Samuel) decided to be a butthead to his brother today and started a fight! I seperated them immediately to give them a break. Then SOMEONE (Sam) was given a second chance, started picking on his brother again... SMH!
So, he is sleeping in his kennel tonight. 😪 We had a little conversation about his behavior tonight. He said he needed the night to think about what he has done. 😅
A seperate cage will be provided shortly and any free range time very closely monitored if they are together. They love each other, but those gosh darn hormones are certainly kicking in hard!! So tonight they sleep side by side but in separate pens. They should be able to be pushed through for neuter within the next month and be ready for adoption in the new year! I can't wait till they can be back together. They sure love each other. Just two teenage boys in one house can be a lot sometimes.

Urgent -

One of our fosters for two slaughterhouse rescue bunnies, Poppy and Petal is having a crisis and needs to release the girls. She wants to come into town with them today. Petal is a beautiful white New Zealand bunny, and Poppy is a Flemish Giant 🐰🤎

Here’s a picture of the girls being transported out of the slaughterhouse, for reference.

They are still a bit timid and have used how to use a litterbox. I’d really prefer for them to go to someone who really is understanding of animals, and who can help these girls learn to trust people again. I’d like to set them up in at least a 4 week foster arrangement with a new home where we can take some new pictures. They are currently on the waitlist to be spayed. Both about 10 months old right now.

These girls have had a horrible life before liberating themselves. They do not bite or scratch or show any aggression, they are simply scared, and they have every right to be.

I will be providing all needed supplies for a safe and enriching indoor setup. Please message me ASAP if you can help us with these girls today.

When I take my buddies (dogs) out for a walk, I am always sure to be respectful and kind of the other dogs in the neighborhood. I typically like to take them to a place where they can roam on their own without being disturbed by other dogs or vise versa. Sometimes if I have the go ahead, I will take them to the Gresham Main City Dog Park to play with other dogs. Even there I am sure to keep an eye on them as some dogs there can be rough players and if necessary we will leave to get away from a dog that cannot respect my buddy's comfort zone.

I will always respect your pets space and the other pets around us! ❤💕

It really doesn’t matter if your dog is friendly or not.

What matters is that you don’t take the choice away from another owner (and their dog) as to who they interact with.

There can be so many reasons why a dog and their owner need space from you and your dog.

Please allow them that choice 💙

So Foster Daddy David and I were playing with these handsome boys the other night, an he said, Cady and Karen just didn't suit them. He sat and thought about it for a while... So may I reintroduce.... Samuel (Karen) and Ezekiel (Cady)! I think these names sit nicely!!

So we here at Keri's Kanines have been doing some updating to our list of services. As you may have seen we now are equipped to foster bunnies with our local rescue. Also we have added on bathing services for cat and dog. Generally it will be performed outside in the summer and inside during winter. It will be performed at your home as cleaning and scrubbing of the tub afterwords will be performed. But if need be it can be done in our home but the pet will be required to stay at our home until dry and a short visit fee will be added. Nail trims are recommended at the time of bath as well.

Well it's official!!! These two sweet "Mean Boys," will be joining us this afternoon for a while to be fostered!! Their names are Cady and Karen. This is their story...

"They are baby boys, about 11 weeks and bonded. Karen and Cady. We hope to get them out soon, they just can’t impregnate mom while we wait for a spay 😆😆

Karen is a lion head who was Reginas baby who we rescued from a hoarding case

Cady is a blonde mix , also reginas baby.

The hoarding case was over 100 rabbits and tons of babies in Albany OR. Living in broken glass and barbed wire, no hay, no water, being frequently attacked by rats, living outdoors. It’s a miracle Regina gave birth to healthy babies."
