So, it's . If some of the shelter cats had a list of questions, we think this would be them:

Why don't you pspspsps, yourself? 😼
Pet me or play with me? Pet me now? Play with me now? 😺
Why do you keep asking me why I'm so cute? ⁉️
What did you do with the sun spot? 🌞

What would your cats ask? Share in the comments!

You have made Oso, oh so happy! ❤️

In the last week we have received more than 1,600 donations of wet food. 👏❤️

This is extremely helpful for the new shelter animal additions that arrived last week, as well as all of the shelter animals who are in our care!

Thank you for your support, we couldn’t do our work without this animal loving community. ❤️

Sienna got have a photoshoot this week! 📸🐶No, this is not a nearby hiking trail, this is the dog walking path right on OHS Portland Campus!

It’s like our very own mini trail with 10/10 smells for the doggos and pretty scenery for the humans. 💚

Help us welcome Oregon Humane Society’s second transport of shelter animals from Southern California. ❤️

This transfer, in partnership with Greater Good Charities, will help animal shelters near the areas impacted by the wildfires to be utilized as temporary housing and reunification centers for displaced animals.

23 dogs 🐶 and two cats 🐱 are now in OHS’ Behavior and Rescue Center. They will be in a quiet space to rest from their travels and get settled.

We added more than 40 animals to the shelter in the last few days with additional arrivals expected soon. ✈️

Want to help? A great way is to add to our canned dog food supply! We are accepting donations that can be dropped off at OHS Portland Campus or shop on our Wish List - oregonhumane.org/donate/wish-list/

Adopted are the best snoozes! ❤️😴 Desti Ann, now Lemon 🍋 , was transferred to Oregon Humane Society in December 2024. She weathered the storm after Hurricane Francine and was medically treated at St. Charles Parish Animal Shelter

She received no adoption interest there, so OHS and Greater Good Charities worked together to bring her to Oregon. The Second Chance program helps transfer thousands of pets each year, most of whom are from neighboring shelters in Oregon and SW Washington.

Lemon's adopters sent us this update: "Things with Lemon have been great so far! She’s such a sweetie and loves being with her people! She’s opening up more each day. I feel so honored to be able to give her a special home that she deserves."

Today, Oregon Humane Society welcomed our first group of animals from California. We partnered with Front Street Animal Shelter - City of Sacramento to transport animals to Oregon.

The wildfires have put a strain on shelters throughout southern and central California. This will help animal shelters in these areas move shelter animals out to free up critical space to help displaced and evacuated pets.

We are expecting two more transports of animals coming from California this week. Want to help? If you can, adopt!

MAXimum cuteness! Get it, because his name is Max? 🤷🏻‍♀️🐶

This shepherd and husky mix is a part of our Diamond in the Ruff program! Any animal labeled on their adoption profile as part of the DITR program is eligible for foster to adopt.

You can do a trial adoption for two weeks with this pet and have regular check-ins with our staff. This helps adopters and pets test if the home is a right fit.

Our hearts go out to everyone impacted by the devastating wildfires in L.A.

We know our amazing community of supporters has been wondering how OHS will be able to help the rescue efforts taking place in Southern California. OHS has been in communication with rescue partners in the affected areas, and we are ready to assist with transferring animals to Oregon.

Over the next 1-2 weeks, OHS is planning to receive three transports of shelter animals thanks to Second Chance partnerships with Greater Good Charities, ASPCA, and Front Street Animal Shelter - City of Sacramento. This disaster has put a strain on shelters throughout southern and central California so any movement of shelter animals out of the area frees up critical space to help pets who were displaced by the fires.

Want to help? One of the best things you can do right now is adopt! Getting animals into homes frees up space and resources so OHS can be ready to help more animals in need of evacuation. Now, more than ever, adopting a pet anywhere helps animals everywhere! oregonhumane.org/adopt/

Can’t adopt right now? Please consider donating to help us care for the animals being transferred to our shelters. oregonhumane.org/donate

It’s important to keep in mind that the fires are still active so the full scope of what is needed by impacted communities is rapidly evolving. Recovery will take years, and OHS is committed to being part of this effort for the long haul.

(Note: the image above is from a transfer of animals in partnership with Greater Good Charities that look place last month. We will post footage of the California animals as soon as we get to welcome them to Oregon!)

This recent story will give you ALL the feels! 😭

In 2018, Chuck Hawley rescued a tiny kitten who had been glued to the road in the Salem area. He named that kitten Sticky the Kitty and wrote a series of children's books about compassion and kindness. Chuck was also honored with an OHS Diamond Collar Award in 2019 for rescuing Sticky. 👏

Sadly, Sticky recently passed away after a short but severe illness. Chuck stopped in to OHS' Portland campus to walk around while he was processing his grief.

As he was about to leave, a paw reached out of one of the kennels and tapped him on the shoulder. 🐱 The rest was history. Melvin the kitten, now named Allen, is home with Chuck and his family. ❤️
