Animal Aid, Inc. Animal Aid of Portland is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit animal rescue and welfare organization, passionately serving animals and the people they love since 1969.

As a nonprofit, no-kill rescue, we seek to reduce animal suffering by providing assistance to abused, homeless, injured, and sick animals and find them loving, dependable, and nurturing forever homes. We specialize in assisting animals who may not thrive in larger shelter environments. We commit to the animals we rescue for life, including post-adoption support and a lifetime return policy.

Whisker Wednesday: Meet Legolas Brickabrack!

Looking for a cat with many names and an even bigger personality? Meet Legolas Brickabrack, aka Lego Brick, Legs, or just Lego! This dapper gentleman is a friendly, affectionate boy who enjoys human attention, lap time, and—when the vibe is right—snuggling with his feline friends.

Lego was rescued from the streets and has been learning the finer points of cat social etiquette. He can be a bit much for timid or senior kitties, but if you’ve got a confident, snuggle-loving cat who wants a buddy, Lego might just be their new best friend!

Ideal home:
✔️ A human (or two) who loves cat cuddles
✔️ A friendly cat who enjoys snuggling with a buddy
✔️ A home where he can be the charming, slightly bossy gentleman he was born to be

Yesterday was national love your pet day and we took the time to look back at some Animal Aid alumni who are now happy and in loving homes.

Guillermo was with us for a while as an office mate to one of our staff. He had lots of growth while he was with us and we helped with some medical issues during his time with us. A year later in his new home, Guillermo looks comfortable and happy.

Next is Skye, and if you've visited us in the last few years, he was the one to greet you by the door. He was with us for 2.5 years and now has been enjoying bird watching in his new home.

And had to include little Bean, previously named Lucy. She was only 3 lb when she was with us as a puppy and now is thriving with her own Instagram.

We love to hear stories from past adopters ❤️ give your pets an extra hug from us.

Hi! Fox here! I’m so ready to settle down with a furever family. I’ve had a few challenges recently, from losing a close doggie buddy to having most of my teeth removed. Since then, I’m taking a self-care journey that makes me confident about tackling the next chapter of my life.

My perfect home would be one where my people are home most of the time. A puppy pal would be fun, too, but I can also be happy as an only child in the right home. It’s hard to think about not being there for your furry companion, but it’s important to have a plan for their future.

Every year, it’s estimated that tens of thousands of pets enter rescues and shelters due to their owner's health issues or passing away. Including clear instructions in a will or living trust, and setting aside funds for the care of your companion, ensures they will have a safe and loving home in the event you cannot care for them.

"Even though I have an Animal Aid cat that will go back to Animal Aid should I die, I have provided in my estate plan for additional funds to accompany Dave as he is a special needs cat. I also have included in my estate plan monies to accompany my two other cats that are enrolled in the Gift of Life program at Animal Aid to pay for their continued pet insurance"

Bingo with Cats is back with a St. Patrick's Day Theme and we are doing things a little bit different this time.

Both sessions will be on Sunday 3/16 at our shelter. The first session will be all ages from 12:30-2pm. Then from 6:30-8pm, we will have a 21+ session 🍻

Happy new year from Animal Aid! In 2024, we began to grow our dog program a bit and hope to continue to do so in 2025.

Which leads us to one of our current residents, Rocky. He’s had a really tough few months, but he’s been surprising us all with his resilience and loving personality. Even though we love him dearly and are having so much fun with him here, we’d really love to find him is perfect home soon! We are open to both long term foster placements and foster-to-adopt arrangements, really prioritizing people who are considering permanency since he’s already had more than enough environmental transitions.

Send us a message if interested, we are happy to answer any questions regarding the details of his needs. He’s the most special boy with the biggest heart, and we all want to see him find his forever family once and for all.
