Hi everyone, first please let me apologize for not recognizing nation dog day. It isn’t that I didn’t remember or didn’t want to post, it is that I have been a bit under the weather 🤧 lately. However, this is truly important, so please read all the way through!
Hello everybody! Over the weekend I sent an email to all of you (who signed up to receive emails from us) and I wanted to share a personal experience that will show the importance of my request.
A few months ago, an older gentleman who follows our work reached out to me about writing his Will and making plans for his cat.
He shared with me that he was dying, and he didn't want his cat to be in a situation where one day an ambulance will take him away, and his cat will be left behind and will end up either dead of starvation, thrown out to the streets, or dumped at the shelter.
He didn't have any family members or friends who would be able to assist, so I asked him to complete his Will, and update his landlord that I will be the person who will care for his cat in case of an emergency.
We remained in touch, and a little over a month ago, he asked me to come and take his cat because his condition was deteriorating rapidly and he was unable to care for her any longer. I drove out to the desert, we spent some time together, I waited for him to say goodbye to his beloved cat, and I headed back to Los Angeles.
The timing and evaluation of his situation were perfect because a couple of days later, he was rushed to the hospital and we just learned that he wouldn't be able to go back to his home due to his medical condition.
Three days ago he was moved to a hospice care facility, and I will keep updating him with photos and videos of his cat sent to me by his amazing foster mom. I know it cheers him up and gives him comfort knowing she is so well taken care of and loved 😊❤️😺
August is "Make-a-Will" month, and it's our responsibility as pet owners to make sure they are all safe in case something unexpected happens. Most people believe that their family members will take in their pets, but my experience shows that it's just not true.
To prevent terrible situations from happening to pets who are left behind after their person dies, Hope For Paws partnered with to help you create your own legally valid Will for FREE here: https://www.freewill.com/HopeForPaws
The process takes 15-20 minutes, and all I am asking for today is that you start the process... just give it 2 minutes, and you can complete it later this week or over the weekend when you have some free time. This will give you time to think about it, talk to family members, and start this important conversation.
Life is so fragile, and just a few days ago, a very young technician at CARES, Jenny Rodriguez, lost her life in a car accident - a Will is not just something for older people 💔😔
Please make a plan for your pets and loved ones 🙏
Thank you so much for reading this.
