Could your pet use some fun? Instead of them feeling bored or lonely, treat them to a daycare day. More than fun, daycare is good for pups, too. They socialize, exercise, and get tuckered out, so they sleep like babies at night. We have open spots, so just give us a call to book your pup’s special day!

Due to the events of the F3 tornado that hit the Valley View & Sanger, TX area, the Animal Hospital on Milam Road's wonderful staff has gone out into the community & rescued many fur babies and brought them back into the clinic for shelter and care.

There are many pups that they have under their care as well as that have needed treatment. One of their lovely guests is named Willow & was found on the side of the road by a wonderful human & she has a broken leg & pelvis that needs an important extensive surgery! Funds will go towards Willow's surgery, vaccinations, medications, & other treated injuries! They also have some pups that have found their owners but will be staying at the clinic at no cost due to their homes being destroyed or them being hospitalized themselves that funds will go towards.

We would love your help in raising money! These sweet babies have been through so much trauma already & we appreciate absolutely everything that this community has already done to help them! If you feel led to donate to the cause, please use this link: https://www.gofundme.com/f/aid-for-tornadoaffected-dogs-in-sanger

Ayesha Sosa, Marissa Burcham, Kelli Call, and Zachary Paul and their fabulous advisor Christie Germans are shining examples of and our values! Thank you for reminding all of us that

Summer has arrived! As the weather continues to heat up, keep these important safety tips in mind.

A post about the most important hazard of summer: Heat can be dangerous for your dog.

There are many PSAs about the hazards of hot weather; so many that we may become desensitized to their message. I hope these thoughts can help to bring more attention to prevention of worst case scenarios.

-- As tempting as it may be, choose not to bring your dog to summer events such as street festivals and parades. Somehow this seems to be overlooked by people with the best intentions. At our local Pride event in Philadelphia it was blisteringly hot, yet I encountered one dog after another, dressed in rainbow finery and panting heavily while their humans slowly meandered through the crowd.

-- Use common sense in the car. Running into a store to pick up a few things allows enough time for the car's internal temperature to rise very, very quickly. Don't do it -- take your canine passenger home, and come back for those few things without her. If you absolutely must leave your dog briefly, keep the engine and air conditioning on and lock the door.

-- During the summer months, change your dog walking schedule to accommodate the rise in temperature. Walk him at dawn or after sunset. On days expected to reach very high temperatures, stick to one longer walk at daybreak (see the happy Cardigans in the photo :)) -- or none at all.

-- Get into the habit of bending down to touch the ground. If it's hot to your hand, it's not safe for your dog's pads.

-- Watch your dog's attitude - if she's dragging along, panting hard or reluctant to move, go back home. Along with that, know the signs of heat stress or, when more severe, hyperthermia (heat "stroke"):
---- Uneasiness, anxiety, whining
---- Drooling
---- Gums and tongue extremely red
---- Exaggerated panting
---- Collapse
---- Seizures

-- If you feel there are signs of heat stress, move your dog quickly to a cooler, shaded or air conditioned location. Wet the bottoms (pads) of his feet; offer water. If the heavy panting and other signs persist, take him to an emergency veterinary clinic.

Please remember that your dog will feel uncomfortable and become overheated well before you do.

Last week, in honor of Mental Health Awareness Month, Destination Pet’s field leaders participated in QPR Gatekeeper training and certification with none other than the incredible Dr. Mia Cary. QPR stands for “Question, Persuade, Refer” and is a data-driven and conversation-based way of supporting folks who are experiencing su***de ideation.

In our commitment to being the provider of choice for pets and those who care for them (feel free to tweak), we believe that workplace wellbeing starts with ensuring our leaders have the training and resources to create cultures and practices of wellbeing in their pet and vet care centers.

For the month of May we would love to spotlight Marissa Dube, the Manager at Pet Resort & Spa Inc. ! Please see a few words from Marissa below - we're so grateful to have such a passionate and pet-obsessed pack member!!

"Destination Pet has changed my life for the better, I am thriving working here- and so are my dogs! With my work history in animal care, fostering/rescuing dogs and my passion for animals makes coming to work like going to my second home. I am grateful for the opportunities I’ve had to grow with this wonderful company, I am excited to see where I’ll go in the future. There’s a difference between a manager and an owner, and I’m that difference. I love Norwichtown Pet Resort and Spa and I am so proud of how far it’s come."

Our Story

Happy Tails was founded in 2003 with the goal of enhancing all dogs lives through dog Daycare and Boarding. Our loving and attentive caregivers work to give your dog the exercise it needs and help to develop your dog's social skills through interaction with people and other dogs. Happy Tails owner and staff are "dog people" whose sole focus during the day is your dog. We work hard to provide a safe place through our behavioral interview process, structured daily activities, including naptime, lunch, snacks, and of course plenty of water. In the summer time we provide kiddie pools and shade tents to keep the dogs cool. In addition we work hard to have great communication with our parents by providing daily records of activities. Our human clients enjoy a community of puppy love and dog passion. We inform clients of any concerns we have, whether in behavior, or a mark or bump we have never seen before. While at Happy Tails dogs will play with dogs of similar activity level and play style to keep him/her busy and interested. Happy Tails schedule keeps each day organized to ensure each dog gets the most out of their experience here. We look forward to meeting you and your dog soon.
