Last month, Moon (now Cali) found her forever home with a family who had previously adopted from HSAR. This family also had a beloved HSAR dog named Gemma, a beautiful Husky/Malamute, who, as we shared in a recent newsletter, heroically saved her adopter's life one night. Sadly, Gemma recently passed away. When her family saw Cali's photo on our website, they knew they were ready to open their hearts again to a dog in need. Cali and their dog immediately became best friends and have been doing very well at home together.

We're overjoyed for Cali and send our love to her wonderful family. We'll never forget Gemma and her incredible story. ❤️🐾

Mr. Blue hung out in our office spaces yesterday for some socialization time.
He seems to be responding well to his training and social time and is making progress. He really got along well with our Annie cat and didn't mind her being around in his space at all.

Having previously shared his home with smaller dogs, he's well-adjusted in multi-pet households. This intelligent pup knows a few basic commands and has a soft spot for the ladies. He'd be a great fit for a home with women who can appreciate his gentle nature. Blue is an active dog who loves walks and exploring the great outdoors. He's already leash-trained and eager to stay active. While he'd be happy in an apartment, daily walks and outdoor time are essential to keep him happy and healthy.
If you're looking for a loyal, loving, and energetic companion, Mr. Blue could be the perfect match for you.
Blue's adoption fee has been sponsored thanks to the Crary family. His adopter will not need to pay an adoption fee to bring him home!
Age: 1.5 years old
Mixed Breed: Doberman Pinscher Mix
Other Dogs: Yes, plays well
Cats: Yes, really great with our shelter kitty
Kids: 14+ recommended
Weight: 51 pounds
Home Type: Active, Quiet home
Leash Behavior: Walks nicely
Clean in Kennel
Known commands: "sit" "shake" "come" and he knows his name.
Other notes: Blue seems to have an aversion to older men, this may be linked to a previous encounter. He seems to prefer women over men and does ok with younger men.

If you are interested in adopting Blue please fill out our online application. Once your application has been reviewed and approved we will work with you to schedule an appointment.

Dingo is a friendly and affectionate Terrier Mix with a playful spirit. He loves to make friends and enjoys spending time with his people. He's a curious and playful pup who enjoys exploring his surroundings and playing with toys. Dingo would do best in an active home where he can get some exercise and playtime into his daily routine. He enjoys the company of other dogs but he would require a friend similar in age who enjoys a rough and tumble play style! He can be a bit nervous at the shelter so we recommend he go into a loving and patient home where he will be encouraged to blossom and build more confidence.
With his playful personality and loving nature, Dingo is sure to bring joy and laughter to his forever home.

Age: 1 year
Mixed Breed: Terrier Mix
Other Dogs: Plays rough according to previous owner. Would require a buddy similar in age and play style.
Cats: Friendly with our shelter kitty, playful
Kids: OK with all ages
Weight: 48 pounds
Home Type: Active
Leash Behavior: Walks fairly well on leash, responsive
Known Commands: "Sit"

Bingo's future family will feel like they totally won the jackpot with this handsome boy! Bingo has such a great enthusiasm for life and enjoys a number of activities like playing with balls, accepting treats, cuddling. and walks. He's a wonderfully social dog and is well past the puppy stage of life, making him a great choice for a family who is active but not overly enthusiastic about adopting a pup. We will conduct further testing for Bingo in regards to other dogs and our shelter kitty.

Age: 5 years
Mixed Breed: Terrier Mix
Other Dogs: Good with other shelter dogs, further testing required.
Cats: Interested and curious, further tested required
Kids: We think he will do well with all ages.
Weight: 67 pounds
Home Type: Active
Leash Behavior: Techs are working on his leash training
Known Commands: "Sit"

If you are interested in adopting Bingo please fill out our online application at highsierraanimalrescue.org. Once your application has been reviewed and approved we will work with you to schedule an appointment.

Lolly the Lab sends her love ❤️🐾

Our most recent rescue dog in need of medical help, Lolly, would like to send a big 'thank you!' to all of her supporters. With your help, we reached our fundraising goal for her treatment, and she's well on her way to becoming a healthy, heartworm-free pup. These days, Lolly enjoys relaxing, going on short adventures, and cuddling with her favorite person. We deeply appreciate her foster family for giving her a second chance, and we are so grateful for all of you who have played a part in her story. Please enjoy this update from her foster family:

“Lolly has really livened up our home and is the sweetest girl. She is most happy when we are all home and is very attached to our 11 year old daughter. She loves to go for car rides and walks. She can’t wait til she can run off leash and do more than dip her feet in the river!” - Lolly’s Foster mom

Heartworm is a dangerous but preventable disease in dogs, transmitted by mosquitoes. It can lead to heart failure, lung problems, and even death. At HSAR, every dog is tested for heartworm and given monthly preventative medication. Be sure to protect your furry friend – talk to your veterinarian about a heartworm prevention plan if you haven’t already!

Our shelter is at capacity with adoptable loving dogs like Lolly, who are all eagerly waiting for a happy home. See who's waiting for you – view our adoptable dogs today!

Alright Internet world! We need your help finding a foster for Eva and her pups!!

We now have a momma named Eva and 11 pups in need of a loving foster home. Eva has clearly been through some tough times and is very thin. She is such a kind and gentle dog and she is a wonderful mom. All supplies needed for them will be provided by our organization. They are about 3 weeks old now and will be able to go home to new families at around 8 weeks old.

If you are applying to be a foster for a litter of puppies, we do have requirements to consider:
The foster should be home most of the time (outings are absolutely okay), be willing to clean up after mom and puppies, stay in contact with HSAR and allow home visits for vaccines, keep mom and pups in a safe area away from other vaccinated dogs.
Application found at highsierraanimalrescue.org/adoptable-dogs

When our organization heard of the devastating fires occurring in Los Angeles, we knew we had to act. Last week, our Board President, Carole Scott, and our Volunteer Trainer, Hannah Tomatis, drove to the Palmdale Animal Care Center (PACC) in Los Angeles County and brought five dogs and eleven puppies back to HSAR.

This rescue mission aimed to alleviate overcrowding at PACC, allowing them to make space for animals displaced by the fires and to provide a safe haven for those in need. These dogs and puppies will soon be available for adoption or foster on our website highsierraanimalrescue.org

Collaboration and community support are crucial within the animal rescue world. By working together, we can provide a lifeline for animals during times of crisis, just as others have done for us in the past.

We extend our gratitude to the incredible staff at PACC for their tireless efforts. We are also incredibly thankful to Carole and Hannah for their compassion and willingness to undertake the long journey to LA to provide crucial aid. Finally, we express our sincere appreciation to you, our supporters. Your generous contributions empower us to respond to urgent situations and make a profound impact on the lives of animals near and far.

We extend our deepest sympathies to all those affected by the recent tragedies in Southern California.

HSAR would like to thank FEATHERS and Quesenberry Designs for a phenomenal Christmas Ornament Fundraiser. With the help of these incredible supporters, and those who purchased ornaments near and far, they were able to raise over $3000 in sales for our rescue dogs. This donation is so felt by all of us here at the rescue and we extend our sincere thanks to all, especially Joanne and Antoinette.

This lovely, little lady has the best smile this side of the Mississippi! 😁
Timber always welcomes us with the sweetest grin and cuddles in for affectionate pets. She is a big time lover of all things outdoors; walks, runs, lake time, and more. Timber also enjoys quiet time at home and snuggling up to her people. She is clean in her kennel and didn't have accidents in her former home. She is an active dog and she should be in a home where she is able to get outside for walks/runs/hikes on a regular basis. Timber loves to play with balls, squeaky toys, and her people! She is a very intelligent dog and learns commands with ease, especially since she is treat motivated. With her already impressive catalog of commands, she could happily learn more and expand on her knowledge/tricks. She really loves to make her people proud and we know that she will do just that for her lucky adopter. ☺️❤️

Age: 2 years
Mixed Breed: German Shepherd Mix
Other Dogs: Should not be in a home with other dogs for now, though she interacted well with some of our shelter dogs since being returned.
Cats: Not interested in our shelter cat but slow intros would be best
Kids: Children over 8
Weight: 60 pounds
Home Type: Active
Leash Behavior: Walks nicely, sometimes pulls
Known Commands: "Sit" "Shake" "Down" "Come" "Wait"

If you are interested in adopting Timber please fill out our online application at highsierraanimalrescue.org. Once your application has been reviewed and approved we will work with you to schedule an appointment.
