Our hearts go out to everyone and every animal facing the disastrous fires in LA. Please consider donating or offering up transportation of animals from these areas to other shelters who are able to help and make room. We are in contact with these efforts and hope to bring a few dogs up to our rescue if possible. We will keep you updated.
Our rescue and community knows what it's like to be living in the path of fire and it's awful to witness this scale of destruction and terror. Even through this terrible disaster, there are so many caring people stepping up in the world to help those without a voice and for that we are immensely grateful.

Our very own co-founder and board member, Doug Rodrigues, recently adopted a spry, little guy who has since been renamed Bandit! They keep each other moving, grooving, and smiling these days. Bandit is a young pup with a lot of happy energy and he's been a great fit for Doug who has always been a huge animal advocate and athlete himself. Doug hopes to travel with Bandit in the near future and show him some super scenic sniff spots. We can't wait to see where they'll go together! Congratulations Doug and Bandit! 😊🐾 Enjoy the journey!

Oh, Mr Boo, we hope we can find a home for you 🩵

Our boy Bagheera is such a loving and affectionate dog. He has waited a good, long while after somebody treated him poorly and clipped one of his ears. After all of this time, he is still such a tender and happy soul. We can't wait to take his adoption photo one day and to hear about all of the ways in which he's improved his future adopter's life.

He enjoys spending time with people and meeting new friends, he's very friendly and social. He's been working on his basic obedience with our staff and volunteers and he's made great progress. He knows the marker word, "good" and has been doing well learning "sit" and "come".
He enjoys female dogs and with a slow introduction he will do well with cats. He's strong so young kiddos may be a little overwhelmed by him.
If you're an active individual or family, Bagheera could be your ideal adventure partner. We think that he will enjoy swimming! He spent time in a foster home recently with a sweet girl dog and they did really well together. He enjoyed resting in a home and going out for nature walks.
To meet Bagheera and welcome him into your heart and home, please fill out our online application at highsierraanimalrescue.org

Bagheera's adoption fee has been partially sponsored and is now only $85. A special thank you to his sponsor.

Gorgeous, adoptable Emma 🩷

This wonderfully gentle and gorgeous girl has completely captured our hearts at HSAR. Emma is a young dog but has such soulful and intelligent eyes. She loves to make her people proud and blossoms when she feels comfortable. She knows a handful of commands, is friendly with other dogs, enjoyed meeting our shelter kitty, and would be a fantastic walking buddy. Emma plays ball, happily accepts treats, enjoys cuddling and being with her people, and playing with toys. We think she will do well with people of all ages given how sweet and kind she is. Emma is a bit of a talker so it would be beneficial for her to go to a home where someone would want to know of others approaching the property, that has always been a trait that I welcomed in a dog but it might not be great for an apartment setting, etc. Emma would make an excellent pal for another dog and a loving family.

Age: 1 year
Mixed Breed: German Shep Mix, DNA results below
Other Dogs: Yes, good with other shelter dogs. Should be matched with a dog either similar in age or energy level
Cats: Friendly with our shelter kitty, interested but calmed down
Kids: Ok with all Ages
Weight: 58 pounds
Home Type: Active Home, Great for Walking/ Hiking
Leash Behavior: Walks fairly well on leash

We are overjoyed to share some wonderful news about Lolly, our recent rescue dog who was diagnosed with heartworm.

Lolly has found a foster to adopt home!

A loving foster family has decided to take her in, providing a peaceful and nurturing environment for Lolly to receive her heartworm treatment over the next 4-6 months.

Thanks to your incredible generosity, we surpassed our fundraising goal this weekend! We are immensely grateful to everyone who contributed to Lolly's campaign, spread the word, and submitted foster applications. Your support has given this sweet girl a second chance at a happy life.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!

Adoptable Bambi has such a big heart ❤️

This darling boy is such a great buddy for other dogs. He is able to really read when another pup is wanting to play and then wanting to settle down. He's a pretty mellow dude who likes to introduce himself to people in a calm and gentle way. He's certainly not an over the top kind of guy. Our techs have been working with him on basic obedience and he's doing very well.

Bambi is great with people of all ages (a bit shy of large groups), gets along well with other dogs and cats, and is a total cuddle bug. He's a sweet and playful boy with a shy side, so he'd do best with patient and loving owners who will help him blossom.

Age: 10 months
Mixed Breed: Shepherd mix
Other Dogs: Yes! He has a really great, mellow play style. He seems to read other dogs well.
Cats: Friendly with our shelter kitty
Kids: Ok with all ages
Weight: 45 pounds
Home Type: Active, Semi-active
Leash Behavior: Needs Training

If you are interested in adopting Bambi please fill out our online application. Once your application has been reviewed and approved we will work with you to schedule an appointment.

Introducing Mr. Archibald, a gentleman and a scholar! 🤗
This easygoing fellow is friendly and has a great sense of humor. He's a pro on leash walks and would love to accompany you on strolls through the neighborhood or on the trails. We think he'll do well with people of all ages. Archibald should have slow introductions to other dogs and would be best paired with a chill canine companion. He prefers a more laid-back approach and isn't a fan of overly energetic dogs. He was even respectful of our shelter kitty! He enjoys treats, toys, cuddles, and all the attention he can get. And the best part? He's already house-trained! He might be a great fit for your family if you have an older dog in need of a friend.

Age: 5 years
Mixed Breed: Treeing Cur Mix
Other Dogs: Yes, tested with employee dog. Will need to be friends with dogs who are laid back and similar in temperament. Slow intros recommended.
Cats: Friendly with our shelter kitty
Kids: OK with all ages
Weight: 55 pounds
Home Type: Active
Leash Behavior: Walks nicely
Known Commands: "Sit" "Come"
House trained.

Handsome boy Blue loves his kennel tech buddies, especially Joie ☺️🩵

Blue is a friendly fellow who's equally at home with both feline and canine companions. He thrives on outdoor adventures and cozy cuddles. Having previously shared his home with smaller dogs, he's well-adjusted in multi-pet households. This intelligent pup knows a few basic commands and has a soft spot for the ladies. He'd be a great fit for a home with women who can appreciate his gentle nature. Blue is an active dog who loves walks and exploring the great outdoors. He's already leash-trained and eager to stay active. While he'd be happy in an apartment, daily walks and outdoor time are essential to keep him happy and healthy.
If you're looking for a loyal, loving, and energetic companion, Mr. Blue could be the perfect match for you.

Age: 1 year 6 months
Mixed Breed: Doberman Pinscher Mix
Other Dogs: Yes, plays well
Cats: Yes, really great with our shelter kitty
Kids: 14+ recommended
Weight: 51 pounds
Home Type: Active, Quiet home
Leash Behavior: Walks nicely
Clean in Kennel
Known commands: "sit" "shake" "come" and he knows his name.
Other notes: Blue seems to have an aversion to older men, this may be linked to a previous encounter. He seems to prefer women over men and does ok with younger men.

If you are interested in adopting Blue please fill out our online application. Once your application has been reviewed and approved we will work with you to schedule an appointment.

Meet Clover: A Tale of Transformation and Triumph

Clover's story began in a darker place, but her journey has turned into one of hope and joy!
Left in a kennel for far too long, she was neglected and underfed, which left her looking a lot smaller and weaker than she deserved. With the love, care, and attention she found here, Clover began her incredible transformation. We chose the name Clover because of how lucky we were to have found her.
Fast forward to today, and this once-skinny pup is now a happy, healthy, and (adorably) chunky girl who knows what it means to be loved. Clover's round belly and soft fur show just how far she's come. She's a bundle of joy who LOVES her playtime, especially a good game of fetch. Whether she's chasing after a ball or snuggling with you, Clover is always eager to show off her sweet, fun-loving nature.

Clover is proof that no matter where you start, you can always turn your life around. Her resilience and playful spirit will steal your heart, and she's looking for a family that will continue to shower her with all the love she deserves. If you're looking for a funny, affectionate, and utterly lovable companion, Clover is your girl!

She knows sit, touch, come, and she knows her name. We're working on drop/ drop it and soon we're gonna try to practice shake. Big thanks to our staff members for their hard work with our shelter pups, Vanessa is Clover's best pal ❤️

Clover's adoption fee is sponsored! Her adopter will not need to pay an adoption fee to take her home. We are so grateful to the Oltmann's for this donation as well as her previous foster parent.

Age: 4 Years
Other Dogs: Not at this time. Clover will need time to decompress before interacting with other dogs.
Cats: with supervision and training we think that she could live with cats.
Kids: Yes! We think she will do well with kids and seniors.

If you are interested in adopting Clover please fill out our online application. Once your application has been reviewed and approved we will work with you to schedule an appointment.

Our lovable and adoptable Lolly is keeping her spirit bright while undergoing heartworm treatment 🥹❤️

Lolly started treatment last week with her veterinarians in Reno and responded well, she is still her happy and peppy self. Next month she will start the harder part of her treatment plan. We are currently going through some possible foster leads and hope to get her into a foster or foster to adopt home very soon so that she can relax and properly fight this. We have raised an amazing $2350, bringing us that much closer to our goal of $3000. I would like to acknowledge all of the incredible and caring people who have donated to her campaign so far. Without you the alternative for Lolly would've been bleak, to say the least. We are wildly grateful for all of our supporters. Thank you for donating, sharing, and interacting with our posts. It is life changing for these dear friends of ours. Lolly is such a happy, young, and healthy dog and she deserves this second chance ❤️ we may not be able to save them all but we sure can try thanks to you.

To donate to Lolly's campaign- visit highsierraanimalrescue.org, donate on social media, or donate by phone or check. Whichever way is best for you absolutely works for us. If you cannot donate at this time please like and share her posts and spread the word. If our current foster home leads fall through we will publish some more posts for her. You can read more about her story and her treatment plan on our website, there is a banner on our website heading that will bring you to her campaign page 🌟 thank you for being here and for reading this far.

Please do take proper precautions with your own dogs in regards to heartworm. Talk to your veterinarian about monthly heartworm prevention medication and how to keep your pet safe from this tough and expensive diagnosis. It is preventable.

Our staff and volunteers have been spending a lot of quality time with Serena recently, and it's clear that it's benefiting her greatly. She enjoys spending time in the front office before we open, greeting staff members and exploring the space. She has even been going home with one of our kennel techs for occasional overnight visits, and she does remarkably well. Serena is strongly indicating that she is ready for a permanent home. Perhaps that home could be with you?

Age: 4 1/2 years
Other dogs: Serena is a powerful and energized player who would require a friend (s) similar in size and play style.
Cats: Yes
Kids: 15+
Weight: 62 pounds
Leash Behavior: Walks fairly well on leash. Pulls sometimes but is responsive
