WOW! We have been busy, busy, busy! Murphy has settled right in and is doing great! Out & about exploring and having fun with his best bud Finnegan. We took advantage of some of these warm Fall days to play hooky and visit York Beach Beer & Fort Foster for his first time. He does wonderful on his evening walks throughout Portsmouth, and knows the route to the PFD cookie jar!! He mastered his Manners 1 class and graduated with flying colors last night!! Cheers to a great weekend 🥰🐾

We get rave reviews about this girl wherever she goes! The veterinary staff loves her. Her foster family adores her. Even strangers she meets out in the world love her! She’s a real sweetheart!

CeCe is housetrained, quiet (rarely barks), gentle, dog-friendly, and loves to “shake” hands with people. She lives in a foster home 6 other dogs and with small children and is a “roll with the punches” kind of gal: nothing in this busy, boisterous home seems to phase her! Her foster family describes her as “one of the most gentle dogs” they’ve ever met!

CeCe is doing great after she had bilateral hip surgery earlier this year (after being hit by a car as a stray dog). Because of this, she’s a less athletic kind of gal, but she does love to run around the yard, play fetch, and with her dog friends. She likely won’t be up for long walks or agility events though!

-lovely with small children
-lives happily with 6 small dogs

This kid is ready for adoption. Please message us for more information! CeCe is about 1-2yo and 50lbs of very very good girl!

Message us for more information about this lovely, lovely girl!💌💌💌

There are really some amazing dogs waiting to be adopted. Please share, you never know who may be interested. ELAF is wonderful, Finn & Murphy can agree to that! 🥰

✨Adoptable Ella! Ella is now in Maine and available for meet-and-greets with approved adopters!✨

This sweet little girl is about 9 months old and around 25lbs. She should be a small/medium-size dog as an adult. The vet thinks she’s a terrier mix (see some beagle in there??)

Ella is crate-trained and dog-friendly. She’s described as very cute, super sweet, and exceptionally funny by her foster mom! She loves to play and really enjoys her toys! She follows her foster dad everywhere, so there’s no doubt she’s really going to love her humans!

Ella is a busy girl and will need active folks to walk and hike with her. Sounds like she’d be a wonderful agility dog, too! She’s working on some playful puppy mouthiness (so older kids would be best) and on leash-training!

Interested in this very cute, very unique-looking puppy? (And who wouldn’t be?!) Send us a Facebook message!💌

🩷Adoptable Ava🩷

This lovely dog has been so overlooked as she waits for her forever family to find her.😕

Until last year, Ava was just another Texas stray, living on the hot streets with no food, shelter, or preventative veterinary care. As a result, she was heartworm positive when we took her into ELAF. After she was fully vaccinated, healthy, and successfully treated for heartworm disease, Ava was able to come north to Maine!

Ava has been in a loving Maine foster home for the past few months. She lives with a 5yo child and a cat, as well as in the company of other dogs. She’s patiently waiting for her forever folks to see her photo and biography, and fall hopelessly head-over-heels in love with her! To meet Ava is to instantly love her🩷

Ava loves her people so much… she will make you feel like the center of the world! She’s a sweetie who loves her walks and exploring the world around her. She takes treats gently, and loves to snuggle. Ava is easy to handle, and doesn’t mind having her toenails clipped or even being bathed! She enjoys cruising in the car, and takes in all she sees with great thought and in a non-reactive way. She loves to meet new people, and does so with a gentle wag of her tail. Oh yeah, she loves kids, too! To sum it all up: she’s a real gem, and is going to make a lucky family VERY VERY happy💞

Interested in Ava? Send us a Facebook message!💌

💛And, Please keep on Sharing for Ava!!💜

We would like to announce an addition to the Canine Cupboard family. Welcome Murphy! This guy had a rough start to life as a Texas stray but now he is safe & living the good life. What breed is he? Your guess is as good as ours. How old? Around 10 months give or take. Are his eyes really that blue? Yes they are! He loves playing with Finnegan, exploring on walks & hikes and meeting people everywhere he goes. This sweet boy has settled right in thanks to the wonderful folks in Texas who saved him, fostered him and got him safely on a transport to us and to our wonderful rescue group friends at ELAF https://elafmaine.org/ Welcome Home Murphy!!

Wow! August was a busy month for Finnegan. He certainly got around spending a day in Portland to visit his wonderful rescue group friends at ELAF https://elafmaine.org/ while checking out the Argenta Brewing Company along with the Kittery Community Market & Tributary Brewery, Reggae at Smuttynose Brewing in Hampton, family time with canine cousin Maggie May at Seabrook Beach and many, many walks in downtown Portsmouth, Fort Foster and our backyard trails in the Norton Preserve. What's in store for the Fall?

It's been a very busy summer for Finnegan. Always on the go checking out new places, playing, swimming in the pool & ocean, along with brewery visits, special events and family time. A couple days a week at dog daycare to hang and romp with friends makes for so much fun! We hope you are having a great summer, and it's not over yet so stay tuned to see what this guy is up to!! Have a great weekend!

It's been a rough couple of weeks. We have been busy though keeping Finnegan active out and about. He's enjoying some days at dog daycare where he can run and play hard with his friends. Downtown walks after work with pool time when he gets home. Friday night he was able to enjoy the live band at the Portsmouth Gaslight Co. He was very popular with a group of young ladies who showered him with kisses & pats. Sunday morning was perfect for a Fort Foster walk, with a dip into the ocean to cool off from the humidity. Wishing you all a Happy & Safe 4th of July!!🐾🥰

Thank you everyone for your messages, cards & condolences, we really appreciate all your support. As you can imagine Finnegan is feeling the emptiness of not having his best bud Calvin with him. We spent that last few days exploring the places Calvin loved to go, Fort Foster, York Beach and Fort McClary in Kittery Point, which was the very first excursion Calvin did when he arrived in Maine February 2018, and where his puppy picture was taken with the beautiful Atlantic Ocean in the background. A very peaceful moment for us to remember him.❤🐾

We share with you today some heartbreaking news. This past Tuesday, we lost our beloved Calvin at just 6 ½ years old. About 9 weeks ago, Calvin was diagnosed with EPI, Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency, a condition in which his pancreas stops producing enzymes needed to aid in the digestion of food and absorption of nutrients. We began treating his condition at once. In the course of additional blood tests and ultrasounds, Calvin was also diagnosed with IMHA, Immune Mediated Hemolytic Anemia. For those unfamiliar, this is a disorder/disease in which one’s immune system reacts by attacking and destroying healthy red blood cells. Attempts to treat and bring Cal’s immune system under control were unsuccessful and Calvin became severely anemic. Ultimately, we were faced with the excruciating decision to say goodbye.
Calvin was a ray of light. Full of life and personality. From the day he was adopted, a 9-week-old rescue from Georgia, Calvin brought joy and smiles to so many who met him. Calvin loved being outside goings for walks and hikes. His favorite places were the conservation trails at home in Kittery, downtown Portsmouth, Fort Foster, the Wiggly Bridge in York and the Newburyport Rail Trail. Calvin carried himself with such confidence, and was a true “Gentleman”. And no matter where we walked, someone inevitably would stop us to comment on Calvin. We would constantly hear “What a handsome Dog” or “Look at him smile, what a happy dog!”.
Calvin also loved his nosework training and competition trials. He would get so excited when it was “time to work”. He achieved his NW1 Title in National Association of Canine Scent Work and was well on his way to an NW2 Title. We could not have been any prouder of our boy. More importantly, was watching his sheer enjoyment of working to and finding those hides.
Calvin openly accepted his adopted brother Finnegan too. He was gentle, respectful, and very playful with Finn. And in the short year they were together, they became best friends. They truly enjoyed their time together. Walks side by side, playtime and epic wrestling matches, and naps on the sofa shoulder to shoulder.
There is just so much we can say about you Calvin. To us, you were simply an amazing dog and companion. Undoubtedly one of a kind. You will remain forever loved, forever missed, and will always hold a very special place in our hearts.

Happy Mother's Day to all the dog Mom's! Calvin & Finnegan took Mom (Dad too) on a nice long walk in the woods this morning. Plenty of sniffing, poking and time to be together exploring. What good boys! 🥰

Lincoln is still looking for his forever family!❤️

He’s about 6 months old and 60ish lbs. We think he’s potentially a Great Pyrenees x Lab mix. He’s goofy, busy, and dog and people friendly!

Ok folks, time to share some beautiful pups looking for a forever home here in New England. These are Finnegan's friends from South Texas who have been rescued, cared for and fostered by a network of wonderful volunteers in Texas & Maine. These cuties are available through Ellie's Legacy Animal Foundation (ELAF) www.elafmaine.org We can vouch for them, and all the hard work they do to save these girls & guys. Share, you just never know.

What a great Easter on the Coast of Maine. Lots & lots of outdoor time, which included a somewhat windy walk along Long Sands beach in York. We were enjoying our walk too much to stop and take a good picture, so from Calvin & Finnegan, we hope you all had a great day!

I may not know my heritage but with a name like Finnegan, I am Irish today! Hope everyone had a great St. Patrick's Day.
