Today is Medical Monday:
Sparky and his very lovely owner came into the clinic today for a follow up appointment to recheck his respiratory system.
Before Sparky found his current owner, Sparky previously was in an environment where smoking took place inside the home. Due to the long-term exposure of smoke, Sparky unfortunately developed chronic bronchitis. This condition makes it very difficult for Sparky to breathe and normal excitement induces a very raspy cough for this little guy. Luckily after treating with medications and the use of an inhaler, Sparky’s breathing has significantly improved! Just look how cute this little guy is enjoying his cheese snack!

Today’s Tip for Thought: Cat Carriers!

Bringing your feline to the vet can be stressful for these little guys. The stress may even begin before your visit when loading your cat into the carrier! Here are some helpful tips:

1.) Allow your cat to have access to the carrier at all times. Let them become familiar with the carrier and let them know that this is a safe place. Using positive reinforcement when you notice your cat entering and exiting the carrier on their own can encourage stress- free behavior!

2.) Make sure the carrier is sturdy and is comfortable for your kitty! A carrier that has access through the top, access to the sides, and has an easy removable lid is ideal for veterinary procedures to be carried out while your cat still feels safe. And just like Goldilocks and the Three Bears; not too big, not too small, but a size just right so your cat can move freely, but also so that you can easily travel with your carrier.

Friendly reminder to check if your household plants are toxic to your fur babies! Below are just a few common household plants that are toxic to dogs and cats if ingested. If you suspect your pet has nibbled on one of these plants, keep calm, and bring your pet to your nearest emergency clinic immediately. Wishing everyone a happy and healthy Labor Day!
