Poppy & Snickers Pinehurst Elementary School therapy dogs took on Pinehurst Days today with trainer Alicia Hall! They did so great! We are so proud of how far these two have come!

Hello all 🐾

✨It has been brought to our attention that one of the local animal shelters is currently battling a outbreak of kennel cough. ✨

🐾The Camp K-9 team would like to reassure our campers that our dedicated staff are using the best of the best kennel cleaner on the market. Our cleaning protocols are to clean all areas of our facility every day ALL day. Our staff cleans EVERY dogs kennel EVERY DAY. Indoor & outdoor areas as well as sanitation of all slip leads,laundry, food & water bowls, etc. Last fall we also invested in state of the art air purifiers that kill ALL air born viruses (such as kennel cough)

🐾There will always be risk in bringing dogs around other dogs, especially in older dogs as well as puppies & those with health conditions. Our staff is aware of the symptoms and is always vigilant in looking for signs of illness in our guests.

🐾We ask that ALL of our clients prior to training (this includes our daycare program for training clients only) & boarding let us know of any coughing, sneezing, discharge from the eyes or nose, trouble breathing, fatigue & if your pet has been to another facility with in the past two weeks prior to staying with us.

✨PER our policy if they have been to another facility for daycare, boarding or training with in the last two weeks we will NOT be able to take them for boarding, daycare or training at our facility. As we do NOT want to put our other clients at potential risk of any kennel cough exposure! ✨

Happy Thursday everyone! As a reminder we are booking out on our boarding at least two-three weeks out in advance at this time. If you call or come in last minute we may not be able to accommodate you. You are more then welcome to call our office & ask to be put on a waiting list & called back if someone cancels their reservation.

We also understand that it is extremely hot outside but please be kind to our staff as they are extremely busy giving your pups the absolute best care possible while they are here. From our office personnel to our trainers & kennel staff we cannot do what we do without them. We wish everyone a safe and good weekend! Stay cool out there! 🥵🐾

Camp K-9 wishes everyone a safe & happy 4th of July holiday🇺🇸! As a reminder we are FULL for the holiday weekend 🥳. Our daycare program is CLOSED from today (July 3rd to July 5th) but will resume this following Monday. We are CLOSED for the fourth of July holiday however we do have staff here taking the best care of your pups & will be back open for normal business hours Friday July 5th! 🇺🇸

What an opportunity! This last weekend our group of talented trainers (Nick, Alicia & Shaun) made the journey to Seattle to attended a two day dog training seminar to expand their knowledge & education with the one & only 🐾 It was such an amazing experience for them!

Anyone recognize this sweet baby? This dog DID NOT come from the Camp K9 facility. Our staff was kind enough to take the time out of their busy day to go out and catch him at a neighboring business next to us before he was hit out on Seltice as well as transport him to the animal control facility.

It has been such an incredible journey working with these two pups & it’s for such an amazing cause. Poppy & Snickers unfortunately are part of the statistics local rescues have been battling post covid. They had a very rough start to life. When Higher Ground Animal Sanctuary / Inland Northwest Animal Sanctuary stepped in & rescued them from their previous situation they were severely under weight & malnourished. They also had the classic signs of littermate syndrome. This is something that can occur when a family decides to adopt two puppy’s from the same litter or get two puppy’s from different litters at the same time and raise them together. This can cause many behavioral issues to arise if not addressed appropriately. Poppy & Snickers will work in the same building and see each other from time to time but they each have had separate handlers (family’s) since we acquired them as well as LOTS of therapeutic training on our end to combat the early stages of littermate syndrome.

Dogs are such great teachers of what true love, patience, kindness & compassion is. They teach us this as dog trainers every day. Snickers & Poppy will help the kids feel less stressed, more comfortable in the classroom, & be more focused. They will also help kids get over the fear of dogs from bad past experiences & show kids from an early age how to behave around dogs. How important veterinary care, grooming & training is to dogs. But most importantly teach them that if Snickers & Poppy could over come the obsticals they did that the kids can conquer anything they set their minds to!

We at Camp K-9 would like to give a huge shout out to for stepping in & giving these guys the chance they deserve. Taking care of all of their vaccine needs, spaying/neutering & donating them to Pinehurst Elementary School.Our trainers as well as ALL of our AMAZING staff for their extremely hard work helping Poppy & Snickers come out of their shells, helping the trainers with training exercises for them & so much more. We cannot do what we do without all of you. It takes a village & we are so excited to see them working come the beginning of the 2024-2025 school year!

Welcome Poppy and Snickers. You may have seen our therapy dogs at school events and on some school days.

Thanks to the hard work and generosity of Camp K-9 in Post Falls as well as Higher Ground Animal Sanctuary / Inland Northwest Animal Sanctuary, Mrs White and Mrs Hall were able to adopt the sister and brother team who will be fully trained and certified through Camp K-9 to be Pinehurst Elementary Therapy Dogs. Dave Smith Motors generously contributed to the cost of the training to put the final piece of the puzzle in place.
For now, you will see Poppy around the school on Mondays and Snickers on Fridays. Their job is to help in the Panther Den (our reset room) as well as interact with the students in class and throughout the school and playground.

They are still working through their training to be the best they can be and learn all the ins and outs of therapy work, but so far they've shown a natural instinct for the work.

They will be at the school full time beginning in the 2024/2025 school year, so please greet them when you see them. They are learning that it's ok to trust people after having a rough start in life.
We look forward to the "pawsitive" impact these two will have on our school.

P.S. Poppy and Snickers will be walking at the Kellogg Elks Parade this Saturday May, 18th. Any students that would like to join them are welcome. Line up starts at 11:00 AM @ Uptown Skate Park in Kellogg. We need students to carry our Pinehurst Elementary banner! See you there!
