Emergency Pet Care

Emergency Pet Care We are dedicated to providing professional vet care & after-hours care to all household pets. Usually, if you are worried, then your pet should be seen.

Rest assured, your pet will receive the necessary treatment they deserve, giving you peace of mind. The intent of Emergency Pet Care is to be available without an appointment during the evenings and weekends for non-routine medical conditions. This may be allergic reactions, difficulty birthing, trauma, toxin ingestion, or any other condition that should not wait overnight or through the weekend.

If you are unsure if you have a true emergency, please call us at (208) 777-2707. You know your pet better than anybody, and if you suspect something is wrong, then you are probably right! The clinic also provides a continuation of care for those patients being treated by their regular veterinarian for ongoing illnesses such as cancer, internal organ disease, poison recovery, and post-surgical monitoring. Emergency Pet Care is equipped with state-of-the-art medical equipment including digital x-ray, ultrasound, and an in-house laboratory with the capability of providing blood analysis in about twenty minutes. Time is of the essence, since there is no telling what a dog may have gotten into! When the clinic is open, at least one doctor is on staff. All the doctors of Emergency Pet Care are well qualified and eager to help. They can provide blood transfusions, emergency surgery, pain management, and diagnostic testing and treatment. The only service Emergency Pet Care does not provide is care of wildlife. If you happen to find an injured raptor, we are a relay station for a rehabilitation facility, which requires a phone call to the rehabilitation center BEFORE bringing the bird to Emergency Pet Care. Good Samaritans wishing to help all other wild animals should contact their local Fish and Game Department. Payment is always due at time of service, no exceptions. We accept cash, Visa, Mastercard, Discover, AmEx, and Care Credit. For more information about Care Credit or to apply, please visit www.carecredit.com.

AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION!!!

Georgie is STILL looking for his forever home!!! Georgie has wiggled his way deep into all of our hearts. He is the sweetest cat and is happiest in your arms purring up a storm. He is at least 5 years old (could be older) and is already neutered. He was brought into us a little while ago with a couple abscesses as a stray, we fixed him up and tried our hardest to locate an owner even though he had no form of identification with no luck, so now it’s time to find a forever home so he can always have a lap to lay in and all of the pets and loves! His favorite thing to do is give hugs, you could carry him around like a little toddler all day long and he would love every minute of it! Did I mention he is also litter box trained? If you or anybody you know is interested in Georgie, please give us a call during normal business hours at 208-777-2707, our hours are Monday-Friday from Noon to 8Am, and open 24 hours on the weekend.

Is anybody missing a kitty? we had a good Samaritan bring in an adult tuxedo kitty with a couple wounds on the side of it's face. Kitty is doing very well, and is the sweetest kitty in the world just craving all the love and attention, and likes to "talk back" to you when you talk to them. I am unsure of the location the kitty was found, but it is currently under our care here at Emergency Pet Care. It does not have a microchip or any other form of identification, but we are hoping to maybe find it's owner because they are to sweet not to have an owner that loves them! We are going to refrain from posting pictures for now, but if you are missing a tuxedo kitty and think maybe this one might be yours, then please give us a call with a description of the kitty (i.e. male or female, any distinct markings, eye color, etc.) so we can hopefully reunite them with their owner! our phone number is 208-777-2707 and we are open Mon-Fri from 12:00 PM to 8:00 AM, and open 24 hours on the weekends.

Trick or Treat! It's almost Halloween!! We just wanted to wish you guys all a happy Halloween and Happy Aumtumn! Let's remember, that our pooches can be sneaky, and sometimes will find that hidden stash of candy we set aside for later!

sweets, especially chocolate, is bad for you're dogs and cats! Remember to keep any candy up high and locked away out of reach of you're pets to keep them safe during this holiday season so you don't have to make an emergency trip to the vet after trick or treating fun!

A few other helpful tips:
-If you have some chewer's in the household, make sure any exposed wires from decorations are tucked away safe where they can't be reached.
-If you have pumpkins with lit candles in them, make sure they are put somewhere you're pet won't accidentally knock it over or get their fur stuck in it to avoid any fire hazards.
-Be mindful of your pet when opening the door for trick or treaters so they don't bolt out the door and run off. Also, if your dog is especially nervous when it comes to new people, find them a quiet room they can stay in away from the busy people to keep them comfortable and to avoid any unwanted behaviors from your pet towards other people.

We hope you all have a safe and wonderful Halloween!!!

Good Morning everybody!! Recently, we have been seeing a lot of Parvo flying around, and performing quite a few parvo tests! We just want to remind everybody how important it is to get your puppy into a regular vet and get them vaccinated ASAP!! They can receive their first vaccine against the virus as soon as 8 weeks, and will require at least 2 more booster vaccines afterwards to ensure protection for your pup! You will also want to avoid taking your puppy for walks around dog parks, in unknown yards that other dogs of access to, or puppy playdates in general until they are fully vaccinated.

THERE IS NO CURE FOR PARVO!!!! This virus is highly contagious, and can live in your yard and home anywhere from 6 months to 1 year and sometimes longer. It also almost ALWAYS requires hospitalized care for at least a few days or longer (which unfortunately is not cheap) and then there is still no guarantee your puppy will pull through and survive.

If your dog is under a year old, or is unvaccinated and showing any symptoms that could point to parvo (diarrhea, vomiting, lethargic, etc.) Then PLEASE get them into your regular day time vet, or an emergency clinic immediately to get a parvo test done. The sooner you start treatment for parvo, the better chances your pup has of surviving!

We hope you all have a wonderful day and are staying warm as the weather cools down outside!!

Happy October everybody! We just wanted to give out a quick reminder about how bad it can be to give your pets human medication, it can sometimes even be life threatening!! This is the time of year where especially our older pets will really start showing how sore they are with arthritis flair ups and joint pain, and we hear of a lot of people who just give their pets over the counter ibuprofen or tylenol for humans, and this is absolutely NOT okay! Giving your pet ibuprofen can cause them to go into liver failure or cause some serious stomach ulcers, and Tylenol can cause your dog to go into liver failure, or if you give it to your cat it can completely destroy their red blood cells and make it so they are unable to oxygenate their own blood. Please, it is very important you discuss with your regular vet the proper medications to help with pain management for your pet rather than self medicating with over the counter human medication. I hope everybody takes a minute to read over this chart, it gives everyone the idea of human medications that are bad for your pet as well as what could possibly happen if ingested.

If your pet does get ahold of some human medications, please take them into your regular vet or into an emergency vet ASAP for immediate care. If you aren't sure if the particular medication is safe for your pet or not then call your local vet office, or you can check at www.petpoisonhelpline.com as well.

We hope this was helpful, and we hope everybody has a wonderful day!!

UPDATE: Olive has been ADOPTED!! 😁

We are at it again!!! We have another one available for adoption 😁 Everybody meet Olive, she is a 17 month old Newfoundland/poodle mix that came to us needing a toe amputation. We amputated the problematic toe and now she is healing wonderfully and is ready to find her forever home! Olive can be a little skittish when you first meet her, but with a little patience and a lot of love, she will warm up to you really fast and then practically beg for your attention the rest of the time β™₯️ she is a bigger girl and is a mix of working breeds, she will require plenty of exercise, but she comes already spayed and fully vaccinated! If you are interested, or you know somebody interested in Olive, please give us a call at 208-777-2707. All we ask is for a donation towards her adoption so we can continue helping more animals like her in the future!

Just a quick reminder to please be patient with your emergency veterinary staff, no matter what emergency clinic you might happen to end up at! We are all doing the absolute best we can to ensure your pet gets the best and proper care it deserves, but especially during these summer times we have seen an influx of patients and have been super busy! In emergency care, we ALWAYS triage patients and bring in the most critical patient first and NEVER guarantee an exact time frame on when you will be able to see the doctor. We do our best to get through everybody as quickly and efficiently as possible, but do expect to be waiting for some time if your pet is not in critical condition. We understand that it can be hard sitting and waiting while your pet is in discomfort, but if you are waiting that is a good thing! That means your pet is not in any imminent danger! If you see another pet go in before you that doesn’t seem to have been waiting as long as you, then just send some kind thoughts in their direction because their pet may be worse off then yours, even if it doesn’t outwardly look like it. We truly do care for each and every one of your pets as if they were our own. And we want to provide the best care we possibly can. All we ask is for a little patience as we do our best to work through the influx of patients during these busy summer times. We hope you all have a wonderful day and have been enjoying your summer so far!!
