This wonderful boy joined all the others before him tonight. He was an original to our family. He was such a sweet boy, ADORED his kids, and loved to play ball and carry rocks around all the time. He was blessed with two families, ours, and some of our closest family friends. While he spent his last many years with them, we got to see him regularly, and he brought them all the same joy he brought us. Levi, fly high, out of pain. You will be forever missed, handsome boy. ❤️‍🩹💙

The life of a breeder usually looks very different than people expect. Sissy had a perfect litter of five last year, was an excellent mama, and all pups found wonderful homes. This pregnancy/whelping was very different. On ultrasound we saw 3-4 puppies for sure a month ago. No, ultrasounds aren't great tools for determining litter sizes, but they do well to confirm pregnancy. On whelping day yesterday, Sissy labored for quite some time. Longer than typical, and I started getting concerned. Now longer laboring isn't abnormal for the first puppy's arrival, but subsequent pups usually come much faster after the 1st has blazed the trail. Thay wasn't the case. First puppy was very large, stuck, and had to be manipulated. She was more than a pound, which isn't huge, but Sissy is on the smaller end of GSD size. Little (a-hem, BIG) girl took a bit to get started, but she's thriving and doing all the puppy things she should be. After quite some time, #2 was coming, and it was a repeat of the first. Large, stuck, difficult. I did the same with the second pup, and things didn't go as they did for his sister. I checked Sissy to make sure there were no more pups, and there weren't. Planning for 3-5, ending up with one very big sable girl wasn't what I was expecting, but this is the life of a breeder. Chunker is doing great, Sissy is being the best mom like I knew she'd be, and now we get to watch this baby grow and develop into someone's next "best dog ever."
I put my heart, soul, energy, time, and money into what I do. I love it, and it hurts sometimes too. But the joy I get from families commenting about how wonderful their Evans Shepherds puppy or dog is ends up being the fuel that supercedes the unexpected losses.

I have a love/hate opinion of my past photos that pop up on my phone. This one has me in all the feels. These photos capture so much of what life really is. In October 6 years ago, I was giving our sweet Kaiya girl hospice care as she was preparing to leave us. After a kidney failure diagnosis in April earlier that year, I did my best to change her diet for her renal disease, and as the months went by, she really started to decline. I was changing out her IV fluids several times a day, trying to keep her comfortable the best I could, administering meds, hand feeding her, and trying not to hang onto the best girl ever in order to fulfill my own selfish desires of keeping her for my sake, and not hers. Her mind was here and sharp til her very last moments, but her body was failing. She still met Asher every afternoon at the bus bench, and walked him up the driveway each morning. When she was just too frail to make it up the driveway, I carried her the last couple days of her life so she could send her boy off to school. In the midst of her life coming to a close, Mira whelped a beautiful first litter of puppies with Boomer. Kaiya, being a retired mama herself, and the matriarch of our pack, adored the new babies, and wanted to sleep next to the whelping box to keep an eye on everyone and made sure everything was OK and being tended to. I set her up on my cot so she could be included in the newness of the litter, and Mira never minded her keeping a watchful eye on the littles. As she was fading, her heart and mind were still with her family, held onto her mothering instinct til the very end. On a Saturday, she looked up at me, and I knew we were going to be saying goodbye to her that day. She gave us all the best years of her life, and passed the baton to Mira. As Mira lays at the foot of our bed as I write this, I smile, thinking that this once new first time mama had a wise old lady keeping watch over her, excited for the new lives brought into this world even though hers was expiring. Mira, now retired, has filled the position of canine matriarch in our home, family, and kennel. Someday I will tell my Mira girl a very bittersweet goodbye too. But for now, I'll enjoy her while I can, and we will experience new lives together in the future. Mira loves ALL the babies, and tries to mother the kittens all the time just as Kaiya did. All the sweetness in these photos...I miss my Kaiya girl.

I have a turnkey GSD spayed female available to a good home. She needs to go to a home where she'll be the only dog, as she is canine reactive. She loves kids, people, has great basic obedience, leash, crate, kennel, house trained. UTD on all vaccines. Mischka would do great in an active household, but CANNOT go to a home with other dogs. Someone familiar with GSDs a big bonus, but would do ok with a dog-savvy owner. Rehoming fee applicable to potential new owner(s).

Mischka is available to an only pet home!
This girl is 2.5 years old, spayed, UTD on all vaccines.
Mischka loves people, has great basic obedience, house trained, crate and kennel trained, leash trained, and generally turnkey ready.
Not sure if she does well with cats, but we know that she is dog reactive; so no other dogs recommend.
Asking $600, but willing to negotiate for the right situation.
