🦃👷‍♀️Supervisor Gloria was on duty the *entire* time our incredible Mr. Build-It contractor, Alex, was building our new outdoor turkey house! She bossed him around and told him which screws to use, and was very excited that she and Debbie could eat their breakfast tucked safely away from their piggy friends who wanted to share. 🤣 We are always making improvements to our animals’ living situations in order to give them the best lives possible, which is why we’re always grateful for donations small or big to help maintain our ability to do just that! We have the power to nourish ourselves without causing others harm. Dani knows her name. She sits for treats. She loves belly rubs and plays with balls. She is affectionate and loves her life and the people and other animals around her.Look inward and let yourself feel about these “farmed” animals the same way you do about our “companions.” The difference is only our perception.Try plant-based, for pigs like Dani 💕🌱

Yesterday our interns had an incredible educational experience with our animal healthcare team: our vet tech, our sanctuary manager, and our board member who works closely with .

They participated in health checks for all of our Cornish Cross girls as well as treated their bumblefoot infections. They also spent time learning about natural behaviors of farmed animals, animal welfare laws and the lack of protections for many animals with our educator and LEAP leader, .

We continue to be thrilled to be a part of this program and impressed by the enthusiasm and compassion of this next generation of leaders! 💜🌱

We were so thrilled that donated straw and pumpkins from a event that Victoria built some fun additions around Rosie’s…including a very comfy straw couch!!! 🤣😍

She also built a fabulous climbing structure for the goats but as you can see here, Bruce is more of a and chill guy!

It’s becoming more and more clear to us that Gloria the turkey thinks she’s a pig! She begs for food with them, grooms them, and naps with them—next thing we know she’s going to start sounding like them!!

If we can truly live full, healthy lives without harming animals, why wouldn’t we?

Today is 💚World Vegan Day💚 and it’s a perfect time to think about the choices we make and their impact on the lives of others, our health, and the fate of our planet.

With so many sustainable, plant-based options out there now, it’s easy to start making kinder choices with what’s on our plates and in our cups. It doesn’t have to be all at once, but every change you make makes a difference! 🌱

💜🐓Raquel Update🐓💜

Our sweet girl is stable—still not standing or walking on her own but bright, alert, eating, and drinking. Keep sending positive vibes that the antibiotics will knock this infection out!

Huge thanks to Michele, Victoria, Joddie, Jesse, and all our wonderful volunteers who continue to provide loving care.

Friends: we really need your help. 🙏 This morning we found our sweet new baby hen, Raquel, unable to stand. Upon rushing her to the vet is was determined that she likely has an infection that has become systemic after damage to her toes from being raised in wire cages.

She received fluids, pain meds, and antibiotics today and we will continue to provide supportive care along with a course of antibiotics here at the sanctuary. We are doing everything we can to save her precious life, but we really do need some financial support to help us through this. Even $5 helps, as well as sharing this fundraiser. Thank you for helping us fight for little Raquel 💜

GUESS WHAT, FRIENDS?!?! With the help of our wonderful rescue partners at we welcomed two new little survivors of the Kaporos festival!

They are sweet little starlets, just like the rest of our Cornish Cross girls, so please give a warm welcome to Marilyn (Monroe) and Raquel (Welch)! 🌟🌟

These darling babies are social, curious, and cuddly. After never knowing anything but a cage, they have lovingly wrapped feet to relieve the discomfort of their bumblefoot and plenty of good food and enrichment during their quarantine.

“Broiler” hens—as they are referred to—like little Marilyn and Raquel, are slaughtered between 8-10 weeks. These baby girls will have the opportunity to grow up, teaching others how easy and meaningful it is to choose compassion and kindness! 🌟💜🌟

I happened upon a beautiful moment with Mama happily grazing in the tall grass behind the barn, surrounded by a landscape of fall colors and the moon still hung high in the blue sky. Her son, Jeffrey, was nearby and I could tell just how much she was enjoying the sunny stillness. Even her little mini horse shadow looked peaceful in the golden field.

I think about her life in these very same fields prior to it becoming her sanctuary home. She had suffered neglect for some time, barely able to walk with hooves so long they curled and a dull matted coat that reflected her lack of nourishment. She had “conveyed” with the property, like an unwanted piece of furniture.

But here she is, so wanted and so loved. Even with the wisps of her thick mini winter coat coming in, she is glossy and soft, moving comfortably thanks to the care, supplements, joint medications, and quality food she gets now. Her ability to trust humans and connect with those who visit in spite of her past mistreatment is proof of her incredible strength and spirit, and reminds us that horses are truly magical beings who deserve protection from exploitation and cruelty.

With the help of our wonderful intern, Isabel, Victoria is starting Raquel’s physical therapy and rehab program to hopefully help her regain the use of her legs 💜 Raquel is content and comfortable, eating and drinking well, and as you can see, her doting sister, Marilyn, is eager to participate in all this special activity.
